Once it is delivered it will in a wreak cause the Buyer gets nice vehicles and then destroys them for views..... Just look at the channel of the buyer you will see.
My first vehicle I signed for in Germany in 1992 was a cent arv. Yes the batteries are correct 4 x 6 v, I loved that wagon, driving it was cool . 6 seconds of main brakes when towing if you missed a gear!!!
I don't know the first thing about engines, but it's very cathartic watching these things roar into life. Where did Mr Hewes and Co. learn all this stuff, there are quite young fellas afterall?
I was watching you guys power washing. To help your hands . Buy a plastic ball ,drill holes, tie a short rope to the ball and the other to the handle. Now when you pull the trigger, slip in the ball. The great thing is no squeezing the trigger but if you drop the wand the ball pops out . This has saved my hands from cramps. You guy soldier on ;)
When I was at Bergen Hohne in the early 70's,( 32 Engineers Rgt ) we had 2 Chieftain and 2 Centurian bridgelayers. Numerous 6 volt batteries in the charging room !
Great channel, compulsive viewing. Now with 6v batteries they have much beefier plates, connected in series they, can deliver more Ah and have a longer lifespan ideal for that environment. Of course they do have disadvantages as well.
My OCD kicked when you shouted for the Whitworth spanners. That B80 should be a Mk 2 and have BSF fittings. Having said that I have an old (very old) Gedore socket set that are dual marked BSW and BSF and yet they each fit the same head size while being for a different thread size. But as you say what an absolute babe firing up like that. And on old smelly petrol as well.
I worked for Vickers fluid power. Coded welder. The sister company welded tanks. Both factories along with the brunel works were decimated by the tories.
I sat in the drivers seat of a restored Centurion down at Borden some years ago. They’d brought it out from the REME Museum. I hate to admit this, but I couldn’t operate the clutch! It was so heavy I had to put both feet on it and brace my back against the seat back to get the pedal to move. I was shocked and couldn’t imagine how people could drive them without being weightlifters. Yet my manager in 1986/87 had driven Centurions and he loved his time with them, he was taller than me but no weightlifter. That tank was driven out on the heath so I know it was fully operational, although it sadly overheated a wheelbearing whilst out there and that was it for the day. I’ve wondered since if the clutch was assisted when the engine is running but I suspect I was never meant to drive one. I reckon Centurion drivers must have been walking around with a gigantic left leg and prone to walking in circles.
Mate... whats the compression ratio on that motor, 8:1 ? was the fuel tank flushed or did you run it from the jerry can ? great vid as usual. Love this channel.
I wonder, if you get those arvs operational, a smiling bloke in a suit might turn up and take them off you for “use such as might perchance please His Majesty, His servants, and those He might favour afar.”
Reminds me of the Sea Wolves Movie trying to start the Fishing Boat to Start to get away from the German Ship that had Limpits attached ready to Blow. What was the cause of the Smoking Fuse ?
02:30 Mr Milwaukee runs into the development lab shouting “I don’t care about whistlin’ diesel’s tank, just tell me we have a windscreen cleaner? I need it shipped to Joe today!”
My friend’s father he is a former tank mechanic I showed him your video and he said a very important advice to you never ever start a military abounded vehicle with an old diesel on the tank take the old diesel out clean the tank very well so you will not damage the diesel pump because they are very rare to get good luck
17:43, asbestos lagging. you might try butane gas to start cold engines. those little cans used for portable stoves. pop a top off a can of fly spray or spray paint onto it or just push the top down with a screwdriver. it may work better than ether.
should you ever need any old style military rubies, amber or clear light lenses, the company i work with have loads of new ones on the shelf, they actually have them made, not sure of price i remember in my Land Rover days they were becoming harder to source, when dropped, broken of pinched by some thieving willy wrester, not sure what availability is these days, but just in case you like the originals, might even have a few spare Lucas fitting (definitely don't have any Smiths instruments - do Smiths still manufacture?)
@@MrHewes I thought you said V8 but you said B80 😂😂😂 I thought it wasn’t when you was working on it. Must be your accent or to many ciders. 😭😭 great video. Did like when it started and the rust flakes come flying out of exhaust. Cracking bunch of blokes. Keep it up 👍
You know it was great to see it burst into life BUT. I'm going to be critical here. PLEASE don't let an engine rev hard and don't throttle it like a race motor. The machine hasn't run for years and your expecting it to respond to your demands without an issue. Don't be cruel to them just treat with a bit of TLC. Great to see you doing this old machine's.
As with aircraft always remove and clean fuses prior to connection many a time been restoring a plane someone has not checked and clean the fuses next thing smoke
I initially came from the WD video but I've been watching everything since. I love watching these old beasts come back to life and get a makeover.
Cheers bud
@@MrHewes yeah these vids are one of a kind love it!
I love seeing it all come back to life after standing derelict for so long!

Sometimes when messing around with electrical systems, the best thing that can happen is that nothing happens.
"No news is good news"
Absolutely correct.
I fail to see the connection 😉.
Three times as true when messing around with three phase.
You are fast becoming my fave channel on RUclips. Great watch 👍. That engine sounded sweet. How do you find these things?
Tbf I get offered things a fair bit now
A B80 to work a winch? That is awesome! Love this - keep it up lads
I've a MKVI Bentley special with this Rolls Royce B81 straight 8 (B81 being 6.5L as apposed to the B80 of 5.0L) Amazing engines
I don't know the first thing about engines, but it's very cathartic watching these things roar into life. Where did Mr Hewes and Co. learn all this stuff, there are quite young fellas afterall?
I watched my dad as a boy
@MrHewes you learnt well.
Looking forward more instalments.
Absolutely Amazing. Not even “Mr. will it start”, aka Lord Muck, is that quick🎉. Great work and great video 👌
I couldn't figure out how it was running on ancient fuel until I saw the jerry can. Great job, looking forward to seeing the main engine fire up.
I was watching you guys power washing.

You are a legend Sir. That second start up was a beauty, I presume that was all fresh fuel and not also from the 90s?
New fuel
You've got a lovely channel there Mr. Hewes.
Cheers
Beautiful blue eyes 😊 and big heart to what's he doing ❤
That was awesome. You got that one engine back up and running. Keep up the good work.

Nun, wir Engländer können diese Jungs manchmal nicht verstehen, also ist es in Ordnung
Fantastic! Can't wait for that V12 to roar into life now.
great video pal, that B80 is silky smooth and really willing to live 😋
Awesome content!! I know it's expensive but maybe a chest or head mounted go pro would make it a bit easier to film and work
Very cool to see it fireing up, those old girls can be really cantankerous!
I put two N150 Batteries from a Dozer into my ARV gives it a lot more cranking amps . Great to see the B80 come to life .
Brilliant, well done chaps.
Literally can't wait for the next video! I'm absolutely hooked since discovering this channel.
The b80 engine has no dynamo on it, so you need the apu on to charge batteries the b80 just runs the winch, which was a brilliant winch

cracking job of work
You can’t beat a bit of percussive maintainence to get something working 😂😂😂
Nice sweet engine a beautiful bit of kit.
Great result on the B80 👏
Ted is the star of this channel.
It's so encouraging when the engine started !
woohoo!! What a sweet runner!
The quality of this HD upload should be saluted.. Excellent 👌🏼

When fuse started to smoke 😂 I knew it was going to start
some years ago i was a bus driver. some of the single deckers had 2 x 6 volt batteries in a cage under the rear floor

My old man has just got all excited as he possibly built that B80
He did a fine job
Brilliant video can’t wait for more content on this tank

No clue on compression. But yes I’m running it currently of a clean Jerry can

The fuel gauge in the front are the 2 rear tanks, the fuel gauge on b80 start panel is front tank next to driver

Great video bro
Is this the one you recovered from Catterick? Silly question alert, when storing vehicles outside, why don’t you cover them to stop water ingress?
They would have used 6v batts because they are smaller and easier to lift out.
Just a thought 🤷🏻♂️

Okay, just thought I’d ask this was near the M25 turn off on the M1
brilliant

You will always find that deep cycle, long lasting, high ampage batteries will always be six volts.
Excellent 😁
Got 2 of these tanks at my work.absolute nightmare to try and cut up for scrap
Would they consider selling them me?
Cause they would.they are a pain in are yard and it takes 2 of are cranes to just about move them up on the bank
