"El Numero Uno" I used to make sure I got home from school by 4:00 O"clock every afternoon so that I could listen to "The Don Topping Thing" on RJR radio. In addition to playing Jamaican music I got introduced to American Soul music; Thank you "Don T". He would end each show with this line; " Peace love and courage and Shalom Kings and Queens"
I used to hurry home from school in the 1970's to listen to El Numero Uno also. He used to speak with an American accent. Was the hottest thing on afternoon radio.
I used to catch him too!!!
Don Topping “El Numero Uno”!One of the legendary Jamaican broadcasters from back then. He has slowed down! He used to talk so fast, but I loved him then and now. Good to see what he looks like. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Don Topping & Marie Garth were killin it on R.J.R in the 70s.
i was only a toddler when he use to be on Jamaican radio as "Free i" my dad use to listen to him whenever he's on the air...its so sad Jamaican ppl today dont know of him... R.I.P Jeff Dixon & Peter Tosh
Fred Dixon did a duet with Marsior Griffits bock in the 60's (It's only Words), When JBC fired Barry G, Fred took over his program slot. I remember the day he died one Saturday.
Legendary ❤️❤️
I loved hearing him when I was growing up in Jamaica!!
Is this really the legendary Don Topping?! I was so fascinated by his radio speaking voice in the 70's and 80's while I was growing up in Jamaica. In my opinion, Don Topping had the most distinguished and unique voice among all the other Jamaican radio announcers of that era. He was my personal favorite! Thanks for the RUclips post!
Yes - That's "El Numero Uno" - Don Topping himself.

The best! I remember when he won the international dj competition.
Don Topping did win that competition. Andy Capp worked with Don as engineer for the final tape submission.
I had a cassette tape recording of that half-hour show back in 1976. That tape has long since disappeared. I remember he played David Ruffin song Walk away from love on the playlist. Good days back then.
I remembered him, saw him live in Papine years ago!!
He did a cameo appearance in the movie The Harder they Come.
And in James Bond too.
Live and Let Die (1973) Don Topping as San Monique Emcee!
Nice to hear you, Don. Jeff was the party man in Jamaica at first and he and Marcia Griffiths did a cover of the BeeGee's song, "Words" which was a great improvement on the original. He came back as a Rasta with a new name, Free-I, Jas-I, Am-I, Kabakafari.
Hi Don how you doing. Good to know that you are still alive. I used to listen to you in the mornings when I was a child. Yes you are the number one.
