I am going to be honest, I didn't like this score. Sure it was experimental and different, but I didn't like the way it was used in the film. It always tried to make everything too epic. It was way too loud even when nothing was happening onscreen. It works atmospherically, but the lack of emotions really seems like a missed opportunity. I miss Zimmer's scores that had more melody and heart. Interstellar was a great middle ground.
As someone who is a longtime fan of Hans Zimmer I must admit that the first time I heard the Dune soundtrack I disliked it, then after listening to it several times I grew to really like it and now I have come to the conclusion that it ranges between good and bad parts. I think that some of the tracks are quite good and I enjoy them, some of them I still quite dislike. My main point of contention is that I feel that vocal "screaming" was used to much, in moderation it could have been impactful but it tends to blend together. Nevertheless I really appreciate this mix as it includes many of the ambient tracks I enjoy without them being interrupted by the more grandiose tracks.

I agree. Although there are some nice cues in this score, it's mainly too atmospheric for me. I also prefer the more melodious style of Zimmer.
