Very soothing music. When i was a wee lad in the 50s there was a man who rented an apartment from my father who served in WW1. He told me the stories of that war. In several words it was a complete slaughter of human life that settled nothing an led to WW2. The British Army Command was terrible under some of their Generals. They would just throw wave after wave of young troops into the machineguns. It would take 2 days to clear out the bodies.
And isnt that the truth, whilst they were drinking tea no doubt, all having gained their positions in the army through the class structure of being upper class, born into wealthy families.[what oh, old bean].all those born into poor families were the ones sent out of the trench into the line of fire, and how much courage that would have required, is un-think able, the enemy was not in front, but the prick behind, the one from your own country with plum in his mouth speech.little bit of creative thinking could have avoided that really dumb, frontal assault massacre of hundreds of thouands of young men.Shame-full stupidity
Lovely music and stirred up many memories for me. I painted a 1917 scene for family as my Grandfather was there so it was a tribute to him. I listened to this music at the same time.
12:20 All i can see in my mind is the scene of Schofield, lying there, helpless in the water, falling in and out of consciousness as he grabs onto the log for dear life.. shortly followed by cherry blossom petals scattered on the water's calm surface. This one scene ALWAYS reminds me of Blake... :(
1917 is one of the greatest war movies i've ever seen in my life. The memorable experience by Sam Mendes, Roger Deakins, Thomas Newman, the cast and the entire crew will never be forgotten ❤️😭

Thomas Newman’s body of work is unparalleled from “Meet Joe Black” his music is like no other. It’s haunting melody continues long after the film has ended. This man should have at least 3 Oscars, at the very least. He’s young , there is still tomorrow, he will get his so “ well deserved Oscar” the academy will come to its sense’s. Thank you Sam Mendes , the cinematographer, Thomas Newman for just outstanding work in the re-telling of a horrific war. Went out and bought the dvd , see it every once in a while to remind me , how horrific and destructive war is and that beautiful , exceptional, haunting music , gives this movie its soul.
