yeah thats what most of the GM midsized trucks get on the highway at 70mph with cruise control and it has a turbo 4 cylinder with 310hp and 430tq, all crewcabs with short 5'2" beds.
I've always turned them off because reflections from signs dimmed the lights in too many inopportune situations, like going around a curve. And often they wouldn't dim soon enough to avoid ticking off the oncoming driver. I've never struggled doing it myself.
I have a 2023 6.2L V8 LTZ Z71 1500. I run 89 most of the time. If I tow, I will use 91-93, but normal driving 89. When I was on a road trip out west, I used 87, but only at elevation 6000+ ft above sea level. If I stay out of the pedal, I can get 24.3 MPG 70-75 MPH in Ohio. 13500 Miles, and it's a beast. My home state is Ohio, for reference.

I recently averaged 21mpg in my brothers 24 gmc Yukon xl Denali,6.2, using the super cruise. Mostly flat land. Chicago to Minneapolis, avg speed 75-81 mph.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and the seats in my truck Look great Compared To the GMC ,Plus the bolsters Are much better on my seats Of course my truck is the top of the line truck for that year And of course it's paid for has been for a long time!
There are a lot of reasons super cruise may not work. I’ve been running it since it came out in the Cadillac CT6. In rural areas especially you can briefly lose your cellular data connectivity. Also lighting can affect the sensors at night, the color of the road, moisture in the air, etc. It works the majority of the time amazingly well but you will occasionally find areas where it should work and doesn’t. The computers will not allow it to be used if everything is not in order. When you’re putting your trust in the vehicle to navigate the roads at 70 mph I’d prefer it not take over unless all the conditions are met for it to perform perfectly.
I was all about GM until I found out with the cylinder deactivation BS the 5.3 and 6.2 had notorious failures and just could not come to grips with getting one
The 2014+ engines were pretty good until 2022-23 when GM had to switch suppliers because the original DFM lifter manufacturer couldn't keep up with the volumes needed. That's when they had relatively high rate of issues with lifters. People don't consider the fact that GM sells a million vehicles a year with DFM or AFM systems (cylinder deactivation) in them. Even a thousand engines per year that have a lifter fail, (whether due to defect or bad habits by the owner), is really a low rate of lifter failure. There was a youtube channel that toured Exxon Mobil's torture testing lab and at the time they were torture testing a 2015 Silverado 5.3 truck. They put 520,000 miles on that truck with zero AFM lifter issues (they had to rebuild the transmission though). The biggest root cause of cylinder deactivation issues is that the owner doesn't change the oil often enough. Dirty oil clogs up tiny passages and causes wear on the tiny components that make the system work. If the oil is kept clean, the system is reliable. There were a lot of low mileage lifter issues between 2022 and 2023, mostly due to GM's original lifter supplier not being able to keep up with production volumes, so another lifter supplier had to be brought in. There were also issues with the supplier of springs for those lifters that was sending out of spec springs.
I had a 2017 Sierra , biggest POS I ever owned, luckily I was able to lemon law it an get rid of it , I will new own a nother GM product again , My brother has 2020 Chevy Tahoe , same thing with it , POS
There is no good truck right now. Ram has the same issue as GM. Ford V8s also have cylinder deactivation and exploding campgasers, Ford EcoBoost has virtually 100% cam phaser failure on all their engines. Toyota is blowing engines like it's the fourth of July. The only reliable truck is a Honda Ridgeline LOL.
@@karlschauff7989DFM is not the same as AFM. AFM shuts down a single bank to go into v4 mode. DFM shuts down different cylinders in different banks. Both systems are junk, AFM/DFM failures have been common since it came out. The 6l80 trans problems are also related to cylinder deactivation. You are right that oil changes are needed to be done more frequently on these engines. Luckily you can rebuild the 5.3 and 6.2 to permanently delete AFM until 2021 I believe being the latest engines so far.

I run only premium in my 2016 f150 with the 2.7L. I mainly road trip it to the black hills anymore. In western Iowa, they are starting to carry 93 octane. Going from 87 to 91, I get about 2 mpg more. 91 to 93, I get almost 2 mpg more. The turbos love it. And 93/91 are the same price. With a 36 gallon tank, that adds a lot of range. Just over a week ago, I went to the hills across 20. I got 23.1 mpg on the way out and 24.4 on the way back. That's on a truck with 131k miles, 3.5" lift, 35" ko2 tires.

@Pickuptrucktalk I am waiting on a 3L Sierra from a dealer that should be coming in soon. Just wondering if it is a bad idea to get the diesel if I mostly short trip it with occasional longer trips about once a month. What are your thoughts?
@ I made a video on that exact topic. Ok to Short Trip GM Duramax Diesel? Engineers Respond for Small/Big Diesel Engines ruclips.net/video/sfJDsWnQaPk/видео.html
Tim - I don't really see this talked about, but I know its a reported problem and has shown up in GMC/Chevy forms. What is up with the split metal body on the panels? They had issues with the cab and now they are having issues with rear panels. Is this a quiet, don't talk about it from GMC/Chevy? I'm not seeing the numbers, but impacts 23-24 models. What about the engine failures with the 6.2 diesel trucks? Engine failure issues from trucks 2019 - 2025. Any updates from you and your chat channel?
I know we did a story on the body splitting issue. IIRC they fixed those that had the issue. I hadn’t heard of the rear panels. I’ll have to look into that and the 6.2L engine failures.
It should get better for what it cost. Funny how people think an $80k purchase for a new truck is somehow better than the older truck they replaced just because it gets a few more mpgs when really it makes no sense at all.
That’s why you let the rich idiots or the well off small business owners buy them first to take the depreciation, then buy after lightly used with 20k or less miles an yeah significantly cheaper. Just picked up a Lzo high country fully loaded minus the multi flex and super cruise, sticker price well over 70 new for less than 55k with around 18k miles. Love the truck!
I know that we have to have the blue cruise and super cruise things now to make progress. But I think it's just stupid to have if you still have to look forward all the time and can't look at the scenery around you and stuff.
Thanks for review. I've seen you mention the GM seats and how they are uncomfortable in other reviews. What comparable trucks have better seats in your opinion?
I have a 2023 F150 Lariat Powerboost. Recently got into a car accident and wanted to trade it in for the GMC Denali Ultimate. I test drove it twice (wasn’t sure of it the first time so I test drove it the second time w my wife) and I can tell you we both felt the seats on the Denali are not as comfortable as the seats on the F150. The deal beaker for me is the seat comfort and the engine acceleration - it felt heavy, slow pickup, and weaker than my F150 Lariat Powerboost. So I will be trading in my 2023 F150 Lariat Powerboost for the F150 but it will be 2024 F150 Platinum Powerboost. Don’t get me wrong - the Denali is a very nice looking truck inside out. This is the reason I wanted the Denali, but the power, acceleration, and the seat comfort was the dealer beaker for me.
The Sierra EV Denali is what I plan to purchase. The 6.2L 1500 is getting a particulate filter in the next model year or two. I am done with ICE. It is just getting too pricey to own with premium fuel and now DEF and add engine and transmission cost upkeep and it is just throwing money away over time. I like GMC brand so I am sticking with it, just not with ICE models.
so you have to look forward for the camera to confirm you are paying attention? So you can't suction cup mount your cell phone horizontally above the driver infotainment center and watch a movie while it drive right?
Yes...but the manufacturers are charging more for that luxury in the pickup vs. a car. That's the rub: A premium for features in a pickup that cost less in a car package.
@@drn13355 yup, the days of hand calculation have come to an end. I’ve been within .5 or 1. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not a lot of difference. Plus on a road trip, you can’t use the same pump, so it doesn’t matter.
I guess I like accuracy. Calculating by hand will always be more accurate. TFL has showed how optimistic those readings can be. The last Ram with the hurricane was off by 1.7 mpg. The Land Cruiser they just tested was off by 2 mpg. The last 6.2 GMC was off by .9 mpg. When your average is in the teens, 1 mpg is a huge difference. Just my opinion. Super Cruise and Blue Cruise use a low intelligence, low compute approach via premapped routes. Any vehicle with this low end hardware will quickly be abandoned due to the inability to gather fleet learning and furthermore strong inference is the only feasible way to scale a self driving system. A car that requires mapped lidar routes loses the economic battle to one that doesn’t, it’s that simple. Paying people to drive lidar mapping cars is unsustainable as its competitors model cost $0.
@@quazaar you’re not uploading video, hence you are not contributing to an inference based solution, which means it will hit a dead end and be abandoned.
@@Pickuptrucktalk you are the man! Thanks Tim!!
It should get better for what it cost. Funny how people think an $80k purchase for a new truck is somehow better than the older truck they replaced just because it gets a few more mpgs when really it makes no sense at all.
It's a luxury vehicle. Of course buying something else or buying used will be a more financially frugal choice.
If that isn’t the truth
That’s why you let the rich idiots or the well off small business owners buy them first to take the depreciation, then buy after lightly used with 20k or less miles an yeah significantly cheaper. Just picked up a Lzo high country fully loaded minus the multi flex and super cruise, sticker price well over 70 new for less than 55k with around 18k miles. Love the truck!
6.2 don't have the set up the 5.3 had! 6.2 is a great engine I have a 2011 and it hadn't missed a lick! Just a note !
Why is gas price so high? I just filled up today at COSTCO for $2.70 in D/FW.
Must be nice. A dollar more in PA
@@Dusdaddy DAMN! You are right...$3.55 in Edinboro.
$3.75 Reular.. NY 5 boroughs
$4.07 in suburban Chicago 😢
I know that we have to have the blue cruise and super cruise things now to make progress. But I think it's just stupid to have if you still have to look forward all the time and can't look at the scenery around you and stuff.
How good would you rate the led headlights/fog lights on this drive?
Lights were good.
Cabin seems nicely insulated
what about major pot holes in the road ? does it see them ?
No. It reads lane lines and follows the road. Pot holes aren’t part of the system.
22 is really good mileage.
I like the GM’s for the room and luggage space. I just don’t trust them. I have a ‘21 Highlander Platinum V6, very nice but no room for luggage.
When is the 2024 Acadia video coming?
4:55. Why is this "Supercruise" hanging out in the left lane, mile after mile after mile ?
Because I didn’t change lanes. I hang out in the left lane since Semi trucks destroy the right lane.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I do the same. I'm just courteous enough to move over if anything comes up behind me.
im confused. did the super cruise not engage for 3/4 of the 200 mile trip?
Ah compared to a 70k six cylinder bighorn it seems like a steal lol
What's the gear ratio in rear end?
3.23
so you have to look forward for the camera to confirm you are paying attention? So you can't suction cup mount your cell phone horizontally above the driver infotainment center and watch a movie while it drive right?
Yes...but the manufacturers are charging more for that luxury in the pickup vs. a car. That's the rub: A premium for features in a pickup that cost less in a car package.
That is a pretty truck.
Yep, you killed all the bugs with your windshield.
I DID MY BEST!!! LOL
I always calculate my fuel mileage by hand. Actual mpg and the vehicle readings are always off. You should do it by hand.
I did that for a few years. Never mattered. It was always pretty spot on.
My 2020 Ranger was dead on. I was actually shocked. My current Subaru is usually 0.5-1. MPG off. It is all so close I stopped even calculating it.
My truck has been pin point accurate at rare times, but then be off by 3 mpg at times. Point is, I personally don’t trust it.
I own a 2020 LTZ 6.2 crew cab Z-71. The truck computer is very accurate. It is never off by more than a tenth or two vs hand calculation after filling up. I’m sure it varies from different parts of the country. I also get excellent fuel economy on the highway. 22 mpg going 75 mph.
Look at those comfy baseball ⚾️ glove seats. 👀
that’s my truck! Love it!
Keep telling me which turbo diesel or 6.2
Them new trucks sure are a might purdy.
What I hate about the screen is the fixed clock on the right side. Annoying.
You don't have to have the clock on the screen. There are several options that don't show it.
@@hawki5120 true. But it’s permanent. Only way getting it out of the way is using the nav or changing the option of Bluetooth music/tow. When I used apple CarPlay maps, I used the end screen to see my music. But it keeps glitching. Why can’t there be the option like ford when you can use the whole screen for apple CarPlay.
Android Auto glitches all the time to. It's irritating as hell. @@Lee-go1ss
@@Lee-go1ssWell if you’ve seen the new GMC Acadia that’s exactly what the redesigned Sierra will look like. Google maps pretty much fills up the entire vertically integrated display.
How’s the reliability and quality? From what I been hearing it sucks
Won’t know for awhile
GMC officially surpassed Lexus in reliability studies as of Feb. 2024. Their resale value is also better than Chevy, Ford, Toyota, and RAM.
I want one!
You should calculate the mpg yourself instead of just assuming the computer is right.
Nah, I’ve wasted a bunch of time doing that over the years.
I've just found some to be off by quite a bit.
@@Z22-m5o The other thing to consider is I can’t use the same gas pump on a road trip which throws the whole hand calculation out the window.
That's true.
You will be Super cruising to Bankruptcy Court paying for one. No thanks. The Depreciation in first three years is close to Half
Where did you find the depreciation number?
It's worth over 50% after 5 years but I keep my cars a long time so I want it to go 10-15 years

You are not supposed to slide down the seats when you get out God dammit LOL.
Stop judging me!! LOL

@@RossMalagarieif you do t start using them boards , sliding in and out the seat will start tearing on left side right where the sticking is… step up on boards the sway in then sit down, evenly on seat, if not and you keep slinging , your seats gonna be toast after awhile
@toddprater14 i have owned 3 gm mid sized trucks and have been doing this since 2003, but thanks for the heads up
@@RossMalagarie were their seats ripping open on the side part where the stitching meets?? lol you have running boards use them hahaha don’t not use them cause people will think your short. Lmao that’s what they are there for
The fact you feel the need to say people want to buy luxury trucks and nobody is putting a gun to anyone’s head really puts into perspective the epidemic of mental health issues here in America. People can’t see past their own two nostrils, what they can’t afford nobody can afford. Smh 🤦🏽♂️
in April of 2022 I paid sticker $66K for my AT4 GMC 1500. I really like this truck. Only a fool would pay more than $70K.
I hate his constant nit picking on everything. and the 6.2 liter engine runs great on 87 Octane. You are wasting your money putting premium.
so you gotta pay for the instant + wifi just to use super cruise? yikes. money scam subscription like everything in life now. that green and red light when activated, has to be annoying and hurt the eyes at night. I'm not sure if I'm liking this supercruise now. might have just ended up saving me a few thousand by going with a lower trim level
I wouldn't buy a GM product even if that truck got 50 mpg
And you watched this video because...?
87k that's dumb,
Boomer retirees have $51 trillion dollars of wealth to spend in the next 20 years. That's who is buying these. LOL
Pretty soon the gas will be 21 Trillion a gallon. I ain't worried
Your right I'm one of them but I am concerned about the seats and don't like lack of pano roof that competitors offer
It's definitely not that simple..
It's not simple. It is early a version of "self driving." But I love my blue cruise. And the more that use it, contribute to make it better.
@@quazaar you’re not uploading video, hence you are not contributing to an inference based solution, which means it will hit a dead end and be abandoned.
I mean, it’s a nice gimmick currently, and absolutely increased safety and reduces fatigue, but it’s fundamentally the wrong approach and will be stuck at a local maximum before its inevitably discarded for a true fleet learning, vision only system.
@@cybertrk every system these days will be stuck at a "local maximum" given hardware and software ceilings that they'll eventually hit as technology continues to improve. Future iterations may continue on a congruent path or they may deviate if/when that technology growth allows.
@@cybertrk So what is the right approach?
Most of these truck review channels are sponsored by the automobile manufacturers, so you’re not going to hear about all the quality problems that come with these units . Kind of dumb imo. The only thing it allows you to do is put your hands down. You are paying a monthly subscription to not have your hands on the steering whieel lolol. I am a Chevy/GMC guy, but for Ford you can just put a little weight on your steering wheel and then you can do whatever you want.
