  • Today we precondition calves, giving them the vaccine they need to ensure they are healthy while here on the ranch. Along the way, we meet back up with some of our most famous calves and see how they are doing now.

Mike have you thought of doing an online auction of the ranches famous calves? There are most likely folks that would be interested in providing a home for your famous critters. Also have you thought of or would it be possible to sell your calves to folks online who would want to finish raising up their own beef for their freezer. Anymore knowing where our food is coming from is becoming important.

    Mike and Erin,
Arrow setup worked amazing!!! A lot of people don't have a clue what it takes if you don't have a good system. To do it all by yourself is what most ranchers would like but not the case. Keep up the great work and toss out all the negative feedback , misspelled words. Those are the ones that don't have a clue what you have accomplished by yourself. Hoping to make it up there one of these days once all this pandemic is over with.

First off, I am going to say I support my local stores over the big box stores when it makes sense, or is not a huge financial burden. But there are those who say big box is always bad. I like buying from people who know my name and greet me when I shop there.
What Mike has done (and I would probably do the same), is he bought from big box. Why? Because economics dictated that it was a better buy than using his local vets for his vaccination needs. However, always ask your local business if they can match the big box price or come close. If my vet can get close on the price, I go with them. It is better to give my local guy a few bucks than nothing at all. Sometimes the choice has to be big box. The beauty of the little guy, is that he/she has the ability to negotiate price, and they may also be your neighbor.

OK, I understand about saving money with the co-op; however, I can’t help but wonder about the numerous small businesses that you previously purchased your supplies from. The vet for example and the company you bought your bulk feed from. Won’t they suffer financially if farmers and ranchers use the co-op instead of buying from them? I know it’s not your responsibility to support them, but I am sure you considered the financial impact you have on your community. That being said, I’ve read a great book on starting a small or hobby farm, and the one thing it stressed more than anything else, was getting your property, supplies, and help, for as little money as possible. Love your videos.
