Texas redbud isn’t the same species as the Western redbud as your title shows. They have a different scientific name. The western is even more drought tolerant.
Thank-you very much! So glad that putting the plant names in the video helps. Several others have said the same. Appreciate you stopping by and sprinkling some encouragement 😊💗🌻
You're going to love the Russian Sage. I don't remember what happened to the one we had a few years ago, but I planted another one in the Fall and it's coming back. It's so funny to me how different our weather/blooms can be. We hardly got any rain at all. My Redbud is fully leafed out now. The blooms are gone.
I think my redbuds are always slow compared to even a few on our same street. My rain tanks are full again😌 I’m excited about the Russian sage. I need a few more perennials for that area. Was also thinking of a pineapple guava shrub in that area but not sure because I think it can get pretty big. I’m also looking for Jerusalem sage after seeing it in your yard.
@@theplantninja-texasgardener Did I not bring you a Jerusalem Sage? I meant to. I have one here for you. I'll trade you for a cutting of your Crossvine. Maybe I can get it rooted and going for planting in the Fall. It's funny because even the two Shumard Oaks in our yard act differently. One goes dormant and comes back way later than the other. I haven't even checked my rain barrels. Feeling much better and going to get out there today and do a little putzing. Just gotta keep myself in check and not do too much. Freight company says greenhouse is coming on Friday now. It's been in Austin since last Friday....
Beautiful garden! Your channel popped up this morning and I am definitely subscribing! Seeing your Redbuds is encouraging. I live in 8b Georgia and my Redbud has done nothing, but I will wait patiently. Happy Gardening!
I battled the wind and covered my blueberry bushes last night (zone 8a) and even though we just had the tiniest when I went to work in the morning, I would rather be safe than sorry!
David! Hello my fellow RUclipsr! I have yet to attempt blueberry bushes and I know they take work. I don’t blame you one bit for giving them a little extra TLC🙌
@@theplantninja-texasgardenerI was "smart" and bought a house with mature bushes already planted outside! But between the frost and the aphids and the pruning, we have our work cut out for us.
Just an FYI, the 'Merlot' redbud variety is a cross between 'Forest Pansy' and a texas redbud. So you get the purple leaves along with better sun/heat/drought tolerance. Anyone who wants a purple leaf redbud in Texas should plant 'Merlot' instead of 'Forest Pansy' if you can find it. Might have to special order it although I've seen 'Merlot' in nurseries here in Dallas on occasion which is how I got mine.
Thank-you! That’s actually very helpful 🙌 I did find a website for anyone else looking and not finding at their local nursery 👉 www.fast-growing-trees.com/products/merlot-redbud-tree?variant=31576939790398
I’ve heard wonderful things about MD Anderson. Taking care of cancer patients takes a special team of folks with hearts of gold …and apparently their landscape is on point🙌😊
Hey girl ! Looks so good ! Totally jelly about your redbud , I'm in the UK and mine( eternal flame) seems to take forever to bud and leaf! May have missed it but have you had any luck with milkweed and joepye weed ? There are a couple of southern natives that do well for my mom and you're so right about the sage , one of the only things that didn't get absolutely cooked last summer ! Happy gardening x
Hey hey UK! Thanks so much for stopping by! My redbuds are always the last to bloom on the block. I have a volunteer antelope milkweed that is pretty happy BUT I haven’t heard of Joepye. I’ll look that one up. Always excited to learn about new to me plants😊 Happy gardening🙌
@@theplantninja-texasgardener you are so welcome, keep it up! I have to look up antelope milkweed !!! The Joe Pye weed is Eupatorium baby Joe is on my list it's more compact and apparently the pollinators love it !normal Joe Pye weed can be a very tall presence lol, I'm not that brave 🤣 the milk weed was some form of asclepias tuberosa and it was tricolor. Humming birds went mad for it ! Wish we had them here in the UK 💓 also not sure if it's suitable for your area but looks up veronicastrum virginicum !

I see what you mean. Thank-you for the correction
Love your landscape! Thank you so much for posting the names of your plants on the screen! Can't express enough how nice that is!!

It's beautiful in your garden. The Japanese maple is speaking to me.
They are so beautiful, but in august because of that late afternoon sun, mine looks like a texas fried maple😝
Beautiful garden!

Thank-you! Don’t give up, some of them are just lazy 😝
Beautiful Nat, I have a Mexican lead ball (white flowers) coming, plus 5 seeds of the golden one. This is a texas grower, will check out her store
Thanks mom! I didn’t know there was a Mexican leadball!
