I said this to my husband when I first heard her especially when there is that interlude or whatever when she says “I told you so.” So Kate Bush. And that synth. Omg. In love with her, her voice, and the cool lyrics!
I've noticed as well that she's intentionally pushing that side of her voice in her Sophomore era. For her first album it was there on some songs (like HOT TO GO, Pink Pony Club, California) but it wasn't there all the time. But with Good Luck, Babe! and with her recent live performances she's really pushing that sound more, and i'm all here for it
YES! Kate Bush! I couldn’t put a name on the familiar ethereal sound. The synth reminds me of Wham! Or early George Michael. It’s like she’s mixing all the 80s genres, and the product is still novel and fresh. I just love her.
When I first watched this I was worried she couldn't breath in that corset, because usually her high notes are stronger. But once we got to the bridge and finished to the end, I realized she was just reserving her voice for a powerhouse ending. So smart and intuitive of her. All while being able to find the cameras!? Ugh. One of my favorite live performances I've ever seen.
Everyone (being critical) is calling her the new Lady Gaga who was called the new Madonna who was influenced by Liza and Doris Day... And I hate that. Everyone is influenced by everyone, but they create their own things out of their brain from their memories, personality, and influences. Why can't artists just be their own thing without commiserating on their similarities to other artists.
@@TheHomerowKeysat least all of those comparisons are far better than large number of people comparing her to Taylor Swift which absolutely kills me because they are worlds apart. If I was Chappell Roan, I would be so insulted by it.
What I find interesting is that the song is in a lower key than the original recording. I assume it's to preserve her voice, since those high notes are definitely up there
It's only lowered by a whole step. The tempo is sped up too. She said she recorded this track in like 4 different keys. This key is her "singing live" key.
Chappell is very imaginative and theatrical when she performs - it’s like she goes into some altered state and really goes into a creative flow state. I’ve never seen an artist like her before which I love - she’s ethereal
There is a reason this is the song that gave Chappell Roan her breakthrough into mainstream popularity: the melody and vocals, along with watching and hearing her build-up to the "I told you soooooooooooo!" I am now addicted to all of her music
I'd recommend watching the rest of her appearance on Fallon that night. She killed the interview and ended up making Jimmy blush more than once, not to mention the starting gown for that amazing outfit.
I also thought of Kate Bush when I heard her music, especially in this song. Earlier I told someone that she was kind of like Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper, and Lady Gaga, with a little extra drag queen vibe. She's one of the most exciting artists I've seen in a long time. I end up getting Goosebumps and a little bit teary-eyed from the emotion that's being conveyed by her powerful yet delicate voice. I've only known about her for 2 weeks now, but I'm completely obsessed!
She channels all the pop stars who came before her. She's a distillation into the quintessence of everything we've been pining for. I think it's important for her to take things easy on herself and at her own pace, take breaks when she wants, if the suits give her trouble she can sick Gaga on then lol.
Everyone has their comparisons of who she sounds like but Chappell is very Chappell and I adore her for that. The comparisons are fair but wow she’s super her!
I think it’s fair to look for where she found inspiration. She sounds very different to current music but she definitely was influenced by other artists. I hear a lot of Kate Bush when she sings. Maybe little bits of lady gaga too. But regardless, she certainly has a fresh sound and it’s great.
I just found this song locally here in Dallas, they have been sparling playing it, maybe heard it 5 times in the last couple of months, i couldn't pick up on the words from the car stereo to get a title of the song, but the more i listened i loved the orchestra in the background playing was so cool also. Finally, today on the radio sports station I listen too of all things they were going thru their top 5 songs of the year and this was on their top pick of the year and mention what i thought they said was Chapel Run. Took me a bit but i found this wonderful singer for the first time. When i searched before i searched Madona songs and even Taylor S. I don't care for Swift but thought it might of been her newest hit. JUST WOW, I am blown away with Chappel Roan. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you for this! i'm obsessed with Chappell but i don't know a lot about music and vocal technique. your analysis gives me insight to it and makes me appreciate her even more! it's fascinating to see there's so much happening in the background of the delivered vocals :)
The first time I heard this on the radio, I was only vaguely paying attention, and thought, “LP has a song on the radio?” Just a quality to her voice that feels the same in my brain.
You're my fave vocal analyst on youtube and i'm so happy you've covered Chappell! I was thinking the same when you noted Kate Bush! It's wicked hearing your interpretations, keep at it. xoxo
Hi from the UK. I came across your review of Sydnie Christmas and was curious to hear your view. So pleased to liked her. Really hope she's goes far. Just wanted to say thank you. You make me smile each time I tune in. I'm not a singer at all but I do appreciate music and a good voice. Your personality and sense of humour are just wonderful. In this cruel world these days we need to smile and be kind to each other more. So thank you. Keep doing what you do you're great. Best wishes.
Oh wow thank you so much! I really appreciate you saying that. I have been on RUclips now for 4 years and I finally found my groove I think with my channel. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment thank you!
That was a nice comment to read. Thanks for spreading your kindness all the way over to make me smile in the US! 😊 I agree with with everything you said about this channel. I cannot sing a single note but I love to watch Zoe's reactions especially her facial expressions and how excited she gets. It's just fun to see her joy and her knowledge. Thanks for giving her a boost! Take care!
Really good observation about the Meatloaf bit! When I first heard it I wasnt't thinking about that but it makes perfect sense. I was so into the Kate Bush meets Stevie Nicks, feeling in that part, myself.
This video was like seeing the VERY best, most satisfying reactions from a dear friend when they listen to something you've sooooo excitedly recommended. (I don't sing - I just randomly found myself here on a RUclips/Chappell Roan rabbit hole - but, so fun! Thank you.)
Omg so I looked through your series and it looks like you haven’t reviewed Patrick Stump! He’s the lead singer of Fall Out Boy and has done solo stuff as well! 🥺❤️ 10/10 PLEASE check him out he’s wonderful and one of my favorite artists. I would really recommend taking a listen to So Much For Stardust (live), Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown On a Bad Bet (live) from his work with Fall Out Boy, and for his solo stuff: Love Selfish Love (off of Truant Wave) and Spotlight (off of Soul Punk).
Coachella always gets blocked haaard. I Will take a look at the rest of it for sure. Oh wow thank you! I try to only record when I am in a good head space and ready to accept music. I promise I am not always in such a good mood ;)
Has someone done a reaction to her earlier songs like good hurt or bitter and compared them to her more recent? Because her singing style is completely different and it would be interesting to know what a song coach think about it.
Your mention of meatloaf!!! Please Please Please check out The Last Dinner Party. I was trying to find a vocal coach reacting to them but no one's really done one. Abigail reminds me of Meatloaf's singing so much with her ultra theatricalness in a rock band.
Orville Peck: Curse of the Blackened Eye or Let Me Drown (live in Nashville) PLEASE give a listen! Ufduh ;) Chappell's live show was influenced by Peck's tour :)
Idk if you react to alt/metal music but if you do you should react to Ashnikko, I really love their music! To me they seem pretty similar to Chapelle Roan My top favorite are: Panic Attack in Paradise, Maggots, and Worms
This is also performed at (I think) a half step down from the record, which I just find so responsible. Would much rather her feel confident and comfortable with that belted note.
Her voice has the mix of Kate Bush, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Gwen Stefani, Dolores O’Riordan, Marina, and Lady Gaga. Her name’s already blowing up but I hope she’ll reach the superstar status because she’s a one of a kind artist.
Hello, can you please react to Sia - Soon We'll Be Found - live at David Letterman?? It's such an amazing performance, so creative and with wow vocals!
I saw a tik tok and someone did research and came to the conclusion that her vocal range is 3 octaves, I forgot the exact notes but I do remember that.

Her voice is just DRIPPING with the same voice quality as Kate Bush, it’s so gorgeous 😭 we need more female singers like her in pop music

She reminds me a bit of Cindi lauper great vocals
the kate bush influence on her voice and performance style is refreshing to see these days
Chappell Roan is a gift to the world. Especially to the queer community 💙
I'm a straight man, but I've got the most outrageous gay girl-crush on her... and i can't imagine I'm the only one. She's just uniquely fantastic. ❤
Her Coachella set was incredible too
Coachella always gets blocked sadly ;(
Can you use a VPN to access it?? And set your location to USA?
@@JennniferLeeKerns oh it was more that they get blocked by RUclips really quickly ;( takes ages to get through copywright. boo!

OMG Gunnar Deatherage's feather outfit is so perfect on her! Chappell + Gunnar combined = too much talent for two mere mortals. Lol

Absolutely. Very Stevie Nicks on her lower register, very Kate Bush on her higher range and falsetto. 😍
If you’re on a Chappell kick, her live recording of Kaleidoscope is a beautiful ballade. 🥹
fun fact she actually changes the key for the live performance! the recorded version is a whole step higher

The production of this song is incredible
Early Madonna, Kate Bush, Cindy Lauper and some super sneaky Tori Amos voice flips. I’d love to hear her cover some Tori solo on piano….

jumped from the last Chappell Roan video to this one! Absolutely loved this performance and hearing someone also absolutely fangirling on her vocals 🤩
I haven't been to much of a fan of new music but Chappel Roan and Laufey have been dubbed as a talent of their generation. It gives me hope 🙏
ughh her high note literally gives me chillsss!!
