Her voice is just DRIPPING with the same voice quality as Kate Bush, it’s so gorgeous 😭 we need more female singers like her in pop music
I said this to my husband when I first heard her especially when there is that interlude or whatever when she says “I told you so.” So Kate Bush. And that synth. Omg. In love with her, her voice, and the cool lyrics!
I've noticed as well that she's intentionally pushing that side of her voice in her Sophomore era. For her first album it was there on some songs (like HOT TO GO, Pink Pony Club, California) but it wasn't there all the time. But with Good Luck, Babe! and with her recent live performances she's really pushing that sound more, and i'm all here for it
YES! Kate Bush! I couldn’t put a name on the familiar ethereal sound. The synth reminds me of Wham! Or early George Michael. It’s like she’s mixing all the 80s genres, and the product is still novel and fresh. I just love her.
She reminds me a bit of Cindi lauper great vocals

Everyone (being critical) is calling her the new Lady Gaga who was called the new Madonna who was influenced by Liza and Doris Day... And I hate that. Everyone is influenced by everyone, but they create their own things out of their brain from their memories, personality, and influences. Why can't artists just be their own thing without commiserating on their similarities to other artists.
@@TheHomerowKeysat least all of those comparisons are far better than large number of people comparing her to Taylor Swift which absolutely kills me because they are worlds apart. If I was Chappell Roan, I would be so insulted by it.

When I first watched this I was worried she couldn't breath in that corset, because usually her high notes are stronger. But once we got to the bridge and finished to the end, I realized she was just reserving her voice for a powerhouse ending. So smart and intuitive of her. All while being able to find the cameras!? Ugh. One of my favorite live performances I've ever seen.
OMG Gunnar Deatherage's feather outfit is so perfect on her! Chappell + Gunnar combined = too much talent for two mere mortals. Lol
What I find interesting is that the song is in a lower key than the original recording. I assume it's to preserve her voice, since those high notes are definitely up there
Apparently she tends to sing it a key lower live, I heard
It's only lowered by a whole step. The tempo is sped up too. She said she recorded this track in like 4 different keys. This key is her "singing live" key.

There is a reason this is the song that gave Chappell Roan her breakthrough into mainstream popularity: the melody and vocals, along with watching and hearing her build-up to the "I told you soooooooooooo!" I am now addicted to all of her music
Chappell is very imaginative and theatrical when she performs - it’s like she goes into some altered state and really goes into a creative flow state. I’ve never seen an artist like her before which I love - she’s ethereal

I'd recommend watching the rest of her appearance on Fallon that night. She killed the interview and ended up making Jimmy blush more than once, not to mention the starting gown for that amazing outfit.
The production of this song is incredible
She channels all the pop stars who came before her. She's a distillation into the quintessence of everything we've been pining for. I think it's important for her to take things easy on herself and at her own pace, take breaks when she wants, if the suits give her trouble she can sick Gaga on then lol.

I also thought of Kate Bush when I heard her music, especially in this song. Earlier I told someone that she was kind of like Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper, and Lady Gaga, with a little extra drag queen vibe. She's one of the most exciting artists I've seen in a long time. I end up getting Goosebumps and a little bit teary-eyed from the emotion that's being conveyed by her powerful yet delicate voice. I've only known about her for 2 weeks now, but I'm completely obsessed!

The first time I heard this on the radio, I was only vaguely paying attention, and thought, “LP has a song on the radio?” Just a quality to her voice that feels the same in my brain.

Everyone has their comparisons of who she sounds like but Chappell is very Chappell and I adore her for that. The comparisons are fair but wow she’s super her!
I think it’s fair to look for where she found inspiration. She sounds very different to current music but she definitely was influenced by other artists. I hear a lot of Kate Bush when she sings. Maybe little bits of lady gaga too. But regardless, she certainly has a fresh sound and it’s great.
This video was like seeing the VERY best, most satisfying reactions from a dear friend when they listen to something you've sooooo excitedly recommended.

Has someone done a reaction to her earlier songs like good hurt or bitter and compared them to her more recent? Because her singing style is completely different and it would be interesting to know what a song coach think about it.
This is also performed at (I think) a half step down from the record, which I just find so responsible. Would much rather her feel confident and comfortable with that belted note.

I saw a tik tok and someone did research and came to the conclusion that her vocal range is 3 octaves, I forgot the exact notes but I do remember that.

Just to be picky: "off" and "love" is NOT a rhyme.
singers often modify the way words sound to make them rhyme, in this case off leans more towards OV and love leans more towards LUFF both sort of in the middle of the V and FF sounds make them rhyme :)
Lol I am well aware that is is not supposed to be a rhyme but the ways she sings it makes it rhyme.
