And it paired nicely with the high-dexterity build offered by the spinal trait, while the crit-resistance offered by the skull trait made it surprisingly tanky despite the lack of armor or hit points.
There's an online tree where you can start at the top and go down to species level, but it's really hard to even get down to vertebrates if you don't know what you're looking for.
I never realised how many periods in time were named after Wales and it's ancient tribes: 'Cambria' being the Latin transliteration of 'Cymru' (Welsh for Wales.), 'Ordovician' proto-welsh for 'People of the mallet/hammer' ('Gordd[owig]' in modern Welsh), 'Silures' were the founders of the Southern kingdoms. The science was pretty neat, too.
Great vid Aron, and it looks like you've dropped a few pounds. Looking good, stay healthy make sure the truth of Science and Reality is being propagated in spite of the deluded opposition.
You can think about AronRa and and thunderfoot what you want but you have to say that it's great that they not only discuss atheism but also feed the curiosity about the natural world many atheists have
*all humans have, to some degree or another. I would dare to say all life. Even those little microorganisms seems to be having a wonderful time performing with the mechanics of their microscopic environments. Though, that may just be a little bit of us finding them as fascinating as we are ourselves. Regardless of how much we project our qualities onto other members of the many kingdom of life, it's, Earth, is, an interesting example of what this universe is capable of becoming. Especially now that life is becoming aware of the rest of it, waiting, for us.
Yeah, me too. It became clear that the only women he liked were the women who would put up with his bullshit. Since I wouldn't, I was pretty clear that he wouldn't like me, so I went elsewhere. I can be cool with someone who doesn't know what feminism actually means, as long as they don't make it clear that they don't like women as a group. (It's okay to not like particular women--some women are awful). But someone who clearly doesn't really like women at all can go fuck themselves (because any woman with any sense sure as hell won't.
From the "do you accept your classification" remarks at the end of each video, i take this to be an attempt to show how we got here via evolution. But some of the videos, and this one in particular, go through a bunch of intermediate steps -- and often wander down side paths -- before asking that question. It'd feel more sound if the question were asked, and were easy to answer in the affirmative, at each step.
Just asking but aren’t Tunicats and Lancelets also invertebrate vertebrates? You had mentioned the Hagfish as the only example. I might be wrong. I don’t mean to nitpick I just find these creatures fascinating. Wonderful video, if it was a small error nobody cares. I was just wondering. Love what you do. Have a great day.
This video makes it obvious that if I had a time machine I'd have to take a dip net and a live fish bucket to bring them odd looking things back for my aquarium!
Hey Aron, I'm struggling to understand something and I'm hoping you can help I'm looking through your phylogeny explorer project and the clades between vertebrata and gnathostomata are grouped oddly on your web site. Between these two clades there are 6 clades: 1. Agnatha-Pteraspidomorphi 2. Pteraspid-Anaspid 3. Anaspid-Thelodont 4. Thelodont-Galeaspida 5. Galeaspida-Pituriaspida 6. Osterotraci-Gnathstomata These almost look to me like each clade is combining two clades in terms of names which is throwing me off. Clade 1/2 -> Clade 2/3 -> Clade 3/4, etc. I decided to watch THIS video of yours to see if it would clear my confusion up, but instead of describing the clades going from vertebrata straight to gnathostomata, you look at these single-named clades on other branches that seem to have the same names as these double-named clades. I'm hoping this question makes sense, I'm just trying to understand your phylogeny explorer tree and how it works.I also tried using wikipedia but they only have the single-named clades.
I have a question. You mention Myxini as the Hagfish, a species which exists currently. So far, every subclade has been defined by some difference it possessed from the clade above it. Since we're still somewhere between Phylum and Class at this point, that would seem to imply that the Hagfish has a kingdom, and a phylum, but since there are no further developments, does it stop there? Or is there a line of clades extending beyond Myxini that just represents "No change, they're still just hagfish"?
Remember that linnean taxonomy doesn't really work when applied to evolution, it was designed by a creationist in the 18th century and can't cope with the complexity of the real tree of life. keep in mind that the taxonomy is a model of the reality, an abstract concept meant to help us understand the relationships between organisms, don't take it absolutely literally. There's a reason that we mainly use cladistics these days rather than linnean taxonomy, it's more flexible.
Aron, i adore ya... But even i have had a hard time keeping up with your nerd talk... I sorta grasped the basics... But your shirt rocks!!! 42, brutha!!!
AronRa ok I see they are part of the blue bloods. I like this show. An I get where your going with it. I just wish you had the time to show where other branches go. It's hard for me to learn more about evolution because everything seems to just be dinosaurs and people. I have problems reading cause dyslexia, can anyone recommend any books on this subject on that could have an audio book options?
Interestingly, the fish shown at 7:01 is featured in the "Walking with Prehistoric Beasts" as one of our ancestors. Did this creature actually fall within our ancestry or simply an offshoot branch? *Edit the fish appears in Walking with Monsters. Not Walking with Prehistoric Beasts.
Ah, but Janx Spirit is just one of the ingredients, it is not the whole of the cocktail. (1) bottle of Ol' Janx Spirit. (1) measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V. (3) cubes of iced Arcturan mega-gin. (4) liters of Fallian marsh gas. (1) measure of Qalactin hypermint extract, floated over the back of a silver spoon. (1) tooth of an Algolian suntiger. (1) sprinkle of Zamphuor. (1) olive.
ik, but what i meant by that is that the progression, through natural selection, that life is able to go through mirrors a reverse version of entropy. evolution is based on the current environment, yes, but besides that point, entropy is where things naturally gravitate towards disorder, where as evolution is a continual progression. idk, i have been fiddling with the concept of systems based on, i guess you could call it positive feedback, but not quite. whatever. regardless of how inept i am at conveying my questions, thank you for responding :P
Entropy is a measure of the energy available to do work. It has been presented variously as order versus disorder, but really isn't. Due to the fact that no conversion between matter and energy is 100% perfect, there is always some useful energy lost, and it is this lost energy that contributes to entropy, measured at the closed system scale of the entire universe (see also: eventual heat death of universe). As long as useful energy is added to a system, e.g. photons from our nearest star, (see also AronRa comment above) that open system can continue to do useful work. The apparent 'order' or 'advantage' or 'usefulness' that humans attribute to things they perceive with respect to evolution is the reverse engineering of a process without goals and trying to force some onto it. If the analogy held, which it does not, then the manufacture of any object we humans considered useful would be anti-entropy, yet we still appear to be able to make computers and cars and dinner tables and musical instruments.
David Lewis - It is a terrible analogy, failing from its very premise. The original concept was conceived nearly 70 years ago by a religious apologetic/chemist named Pierre Teilhard when he said the following: *"Anti-entropy is an effect of changes that are seized, draws a portion of matter in the direction of continually higher forms of structurization and centration."* The failure lies in implying one direction (to higher forms). Evolution is omni-directional. There is no end goal or direction. As an analogy, it cannot be applied to evolution without caveat.
The discovery of bite radically shifted the meta giving a solid attacking move where none had been previously available.
And it paired nicely with the high-dexterity build offered by the spinal trait, while the crit-resistance offered by the skull trait made it surprisingly tanky despite the lack of armor or hit points.
Jelle Wijckmans the whole game had to be Rebalanced after that skill was Introduced
+
They can never release balanced patches...
Pft, balance. The Sapiens class literally broke the game; every other class was made completely redundant outside of NPCs and dedicated RP-ers.
It's crazy how immense that tree is, and he's just following the line to humans. incredible.
There's an online tree where you can start at the top and go down to species level, but it's really hard to even get down to vertebrates if you don't know what you're looking for.
@colinjava8447 what's the name

Love the tshirt. My favorite book series.
A new AronRa video! My day is made!
Re-watching for the third time and only just noticed the amazing t-shirt you are wearing. Only growing in my estimation.
Outstanding as ever! Love the T-shirt by the way, like being hit over the head with a slice of lemon... wrapped around a large, gold brick.
creationists be like "but where's all your transitional forms?!"
dolmandabean
The whole video is a display of transitional forms.
Every species is a transitional form.
Once you find a transitional species, than you need two more on each side.
They are all around you, even you are a transitional form for the next form
I was built in the image of a god...
I mean just look at me..
I'm magnificent!
kinda seems like a kid with a new toy ''I can do bone, let's put bone everywhere''
Thanks for all your work on this series.
Weird and wild creature cards. I had totally forgotten about them. It's been at least 20 years since I've seen one.
Had to watch this twice because I kept getting distracted by the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster shirt
These are wonderful presentations. They should be required viewing in the schools, and required prep for 'science' teachers.
Great vid Aron, and it looks like you've dropped a few pounds. Looking good, stay healthy make sure the truth of Science and Reality is being propagated in spite of the deluded opposition.
Always a great watch, thanks Aron
2:13
Good old Weird N' Wild creature cards. I got all of them as a kid. Still got them for my kids.
I absolutely love those closing remarks!
Loving THHGttG tee there AronRa! Also, thanks for all these great videos, you are doing a GREAT service to the world and my sanity! :)
Brilliant video Thanks Aron!! Rock and roll!!
Danny
Palaeos is an awesome site, found it 5 yrs ago or so. Wish I would have found your channel then...
Wow, Nathan Stome, what a legend.
@@thealmightyjesus7018 Yes, I do believe in Trolls.
You rock AronRa!
These videos are such cliffhangers! I can't wait for the next one!
I love these videos! I can listen while I work.
Simply marvelous.
Aron, where do you think the "tully monster" ( _Tullimonstrum gregarium_ ) have to be classified?
looking forward to the next video.
Nice shredding at the end too!!
Seriously fuckin' love this series.

Coolhardlogic is also very interesting
Does thunderfoot do that anymore? I remember unsubscribing to him because all he bloody talked about was "feminists".
Thunderf00t mostly talks about popular science, and debunks crazy science ideas (like solar roadways, etc) - I think his videos are still pretty nice
Yeah, me too. It became clear that the only women he liked were the women who would put up with his bullshit. Since I wouldn't, I was pretty clear that he wouldn't like me, so I went elsewhere.

And then there were JAWS
So, are pelvic fins just a further duplication of the pectoral ones?
Precisely, another HOX mutation.
Took me a second to realize that wasn't really a Jack Daniels logo shirt, and see what it actually was. Kudos, Sir, well played. :D
Very informative
You educational stuff is fantastic and informative.
Ha! Love the 'clench your jaw' snipe at the end! :-D
VERY solid video.
Can't wait for the next episode
Love your T-shirt
Love the T shirt Aron

I accept my taxonomic classification of Gnathostomata
rolls right off the tongue … as soon as that evolves
I wonder at what rate stuff gets added to that tree, or extra splits are being found.
AronRa, Later on in this series will you do episodes on the clades tetrapoda and synapsida?
You know it.
Love that shirt!
6:52 the silurian must have been a fun place
Dude I love your shirt so much

Scales on Their Tails. Good title for a non-fiction title for children.
Aron Ra knows where his towel is.
Not only am I a fish, but they suck the bottom just like I do!
not all fish are bottom-feeders
It'd be more accurate to say that you're a chordate, since "fish" has no consistent meaning any more.
Thanks sir 👍👍👍
I have a question.

That pan galactic shirt is awesome

Why do these have smiley faces? I can't take them seriously.
Could there be side videos for where trilobites spilt off?
That was two videos ago, the division between red-blood and blue blood.

good vid too

This gnathostome is liking his bony jaw...the better to bite some creationist's cartilage appendage.
OMG, these are some scary monsters.
Bravo!!

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
I have a small issue with the shirt. The Gargle Blaster is a mixed drink, not a whiskey or other distilled spirit.
That Old Janx Spirit!

Good one. Bite-sized. :)
Gnathostomes! We're eating well!
PAN-GALACTIC GARGLE BLASTER!! #Don'tPanic
Well, technically, weren't eurypterids and orthocones able to "bite" before fish?
Ammonites had powerful beaks, but no jaws either. So their bite was like that of a giant conodont.
i would belive there were many forms of "biting" around, but that the bown jaw was a game changer
Fish Evolved Into Gnathostome! Fish Learned Bite!
It was mega effective.
A scientifically phrased way of saying "Bite me!"
These videos have far too few views and likes when compared to their value.
Thumbs up for the T shirt :)
But it's not Thursday!
Nice shirt.
I don't have jaws. God gave me a trunk to suck up His holy teachings and to suck up to Him.
Agnetha did have a partcularly beautiful jawline, though.
that accusation bites!
It seems that he often uses clips from NHK documentaries. Shouldn't he at least credit NHK by inserting a caption?
Armored fish. Awesome
Aww, come on.
Why do all the good youtube channels upload at the same time
Cool shirt :)
I need that shirt
these creatures that are the things you wouldnt want in the bathtube
"they sucked the bottom" - 8:04
Teehee
Ever wonder what some of these ancient fish tasted like?
Not much of anything really other then cooked fish meat since no form of seasoning had evolved yet.
They tasted like chicken.
👍
jaws OP plz fix kthx
we are fish!!!
Very hoppy shirt my frood.
Crap I thought you was selling lures.
evolution is the anti-entropy. or at least, it seems like it to me. can you please confirm or deny this conceptual analogy?
What analogy?
The earth is not a closed system.
