I love how this is a much cheaper alternative to stone spray paints. Awesome video I also loved the final white spray paint dusting you did at the end.
Great video, as always. Again, simple and effective is a prop makers' dream. Also, for your speckle effect, you can also use spray paint. Use rustoleum 2x spray paints (or any can with the more robust spray cap). Drill out the tab on the nozzle. Then, the paint will spray with more of that speckled consistency. Spray from a little bit of a distance and use short bursts. Black and white are still the best choices, too. As far as your acrylic modeling paste, this is new to me and very interesting. What is this stuff actually made for? The texture was perfect! Great video, and thank you for sharing.
I don't think so. Any texture that was built up with the modeling paste would be hidden by the stone spray paint. Plus I don't find that spray to be particularly durable.
I can't say that I know of any, although I'm sure they exist. So much of what I know was either shared with me or I figured out through trial and error.

Glad you liked it!
The 10 foot test? I feel like your artistic creations could pass a 2 foot test! Your attention to details is unsurpassed! Another great video!
Wow, thank you!

I believe it’s for giving more body to paint so that it can be dimensional.
Great job Derek!
Excellent work and love the Disney paint technique!!
A lot of great tips in this video! Came out great Derek!
Thanks Whitey!
Awesome! I remember making starfields using the toothbrush method.
Love the new logo animation!
Really surprised by how much impact the white dusting of “sun wash” made. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thanks, that came out better than those expensive effects paint sets.
Wow what a great paint job ! Looks like real concrete
Thank you very much!
That looked really effective.
I have also used... Sand texture mixed into paint, rustoleum fleckstone paint, drylok.........
NICE! I am gonna make a gargoyle statue that's a miniature one day, one art at a time.
Go for it!
Looks great.
Thanks!
Amazing 👏🏻
Thank you 🙌
Love these! Obviously it's about getting out and making something, but do you ever attend Transworld Halloween (and Christmas) show in St. Louis?
Thank you!! Transworld has been on my list of conventions to attend I just haven't made the pilgrimage.
Nice work on this item. Would there be any advantage in using "Stone" textured paint?
I don't think so. Any texture that was built up with the modeling paste would be hidden by the stone spray paint. Plus I don't find that spray to be particularly durable.
are there any books you recommend that teach or at least talk about some of these techniques of prop making and set design ?
I can't say that I know of any, although I'm sure they exist. So much of what I know was either shared with me or I figured out through trial and error.
Awesome job as always!
Any chance you know of the 3d model will be available for purchase?
Not that I know of.
Another GREAT tutorial! Derek where can I find those clear frames you are wearing? 😜
Thanks! Here’s a link to the glasses: shrsl.com/4etbd
Curious. Was the use of Orange filament pre-planned to stand while painting?
Nope. Just what I had in the printer.
👍
Needs some brown washes. And green moss colors.
Is the STL for the statue available anywhere?
Unfortunately, no. My patron scanned it for his own use but was kind enough to send it to me for use in the video.
Thank goodness the socks and sandals are optional, I can't find my sandals. 😢 😊😊😊
Thanks for the tips.
🤣🤣🤣
that 3d file available anywhere?
Unfortunately, no.
Did savant42 ever make the file available?
I don't believe he has plans to.
I haven't been getting notices about nee videos you posted....
Have you clicked the bell icon?
Would you consider some Tiki themed projects? Kinda of the same universe and audience
Not likely. I'm trying to keep to making things that I'm genuinely excited about.
Is there anything in Disneyland that you want to build but you can't as a prop?
Good question. Probably the millenium falcon 🤣
13k views and I'm the first LIKE?!?
I appreciate it!
