That’s awesome. I applied last July, and start classes Tuesday. I’ve been working in the field since February. It takes a while to go through the hoops, but well worth it. Congrats!
congratulations bro i been following your journey today i also got my letter for the aptitude test so super excited about that been waiting for 3 months!
2 weeks unpaid during boot camp. Make sure your NEVER late when class starts and after breaks. If you are late then that 1yr and half you waited to get in was in vain because they will kick you out. Pretty much got to start the process all again (testing/interview). Good luck 🤙🏽
Congratulations, hey how do you check your rank online? I applied and have my interview acouple days ago, I got a letter of acceptance on the eligibility list, after that I called to know my place on the list, I am 2nd. Now I am not sure if I have to do something else or wait for the finall call. Thanks again
Wow congrats! That’s a great rank! You don’t have to do anything except wait for that email! They will most likely email you or send you a letter which shouldn’t be very long in your case.
So for my local we had a online system where I could check my rank. It changed about every week or so. If you don’t have an online System I would recommend calling. Some locals won’t share your rank, just be prepared for that. But 30 is a great Rank! Good luck
@@SparkysJourney oh I see. My local doesn’t have that. It’s been 3 months since I got that letter. Thanks ! And congratulations on starting your career
I passed the test and did the interview. How long did it take for them to email your rank. I’ve been waiting since June 1st. Congrats on getting in. Your videos help so much
I got my rank a few hours later. Some locals do it different. Mine is all online so it’s pretty fast. Some you have to ask them what your rank is. Some don’t tell you at all. I would email them and ask.
Congratulations! That is awesome. You mentioned a physical but I'd imagine you have to do your drug test and background also. What all is involved with the physical though?
Could you explain what would be the none union route. Can you do training in another school get certified or pass a course then be able to join a IBEW union?
To be honest I really do not have any idea about non union. All my knowledge comes through my IBEW experience. My foreman told me he was nonunion residential before he was union. He had his 02 card which is a residential license. Most cases it’s a two year program. Now, when he switched to the union he was able to make second year wages but had a start his apprenticeship over as a first year. He was also going from residential to commercial or 02 to 01. Does that make sense? I think every local works a little bit different. And you can kind of negotiate with the JATC. Any questions like that feel free to email or call your local. They should be able to answer any of those questions. Good luck and remember you don’t have to be born union to be union!
I did my interview and got a score from that than got a call for a pre apprenticeship but they were saying it’s not officially the union is that something you would recommend doing?
Wow! From my understanding the pre-apprenticeship program is kind of like a back door into the apprenticeship. I think it’s usually a 1-2 month program and after that you get right into the apprenticeship. I would ask how long the program is and if it’s unpaid? I believe if you’re a veteran you will get paid. Depending on the length, I would probably do that! Keep me updated! You might get picked up from a contractor before me!
@@SparkysJourney yea he said I would start at $16.75 and than from there they can write a letter of recommendation to get me in was weird to me didn’t know if that was common thing to get in
Didn’t really say exactly but said it would be in the same year that I would be able to go union also said hours on the job would count towards journeyman license but I won’t be getting any class time to go towards the license
If you are wanting to be in the union I would suggest that you take them up on the pre-apprentice program. It will help your interview ranking immensely because you will have experience in the trade. It will also start building your knowledge base. Good luck.
It can take a really long time or it can be pretty quick.. in my experience Covid probably added on about 4 months. I would say the average time it takes to get in is around 8-12 months. If your local is booming and work is flowing it will be quicker. Longest I’ve heard to get in was 2 years (08 crash).. shortest I’ve heard is 3 months.. it’s definitely not easy though! Good luck!
Hey sparky I just completed my interview and was only given a rank 35 to be exact and I applied to the same union you did but I was not given a score for some reason. We’re you given a score?
Same rank as me after I interviewed! Yeah apparently they’re not giving out scores anymore. Don’t really need it. The rank is what’s important.. you’re score determines your rank so you probably got around 97-98 out of 100.
@@SparkysJourney thank you so much for the quick reply! Do you have any idea when the next boot camp will be? And any pointers for me at this stage in the process?
@@davidoneil2898 One of the most frustrating parts of the entire process is trying to figure out when they do Boot Camp and how many people they choose for each session. Since we are still in the middle of Covid their process has been a little different. It also depends on how busy the contractors are and if they need apprentices or not. You could get lucky and have interviewed right before a Boot Camp or maybe you are not so lucky and the next Boot Camp isn’t for a couple months. It’s really hard to say. I will tell you from the time I interviewed until the time I was selected (roughly 7 months) they probably did two or three boot-camps. That’s how many times my rank dropped dramatically so that’s what I base that guess off of. I’m pretty sure they interview every week so just check your rank every Friday. The best advice I can give you right now is to stay committed and do not give up. There are so many guys and girls who drop out because their rank gets too high and they lose hope. If your rank gets over 150 I would suggest getting a job as a stockman or take some classes and get ready for a second interview. Show the committee that you are serious and show them that you want this. Don’t loos hope and don’t give up. Some people are not prepared for how long it can take so Just be prepared that it might take time. Again they can also go really fast! I have a guy that works with me that interviewed and was selected less than a month later! Good luck

Aye bro I just submitted my application on the first Tuesday this month but they haven’t contacted me yet I’m getting really worried when should I expect to get the aptitude test
I wouldn’t worry too much. Sounds normal. It took me about 2 months to hear back after I applied and then another 3 months after that until I was scheduled for the aptitude test. It’s pretty straightforward. The test consist of two parts. Algebra and reading comprehension. If you need to brush up on your math I would suggest Khan Academy. Also I prep has a great practice test you can take to get you ready for it. Make sure to buy the $40 version because it goes over all the practice questions in detail. It’s pretty identical to the actual test so it’s worth the money
