i've got a cross of both of your cars! fully refreshed AW11 with 2ZZ and C60. as far as dead zone in the center, there is an internal rubber dampened area in the steering shaft that degrades. you can view it above the pedals. it can be refilled with window weld to bind it or one can tack it up on the outside. i chose the latter and there is no dead zone. regarding the ratio, i agree it is a bit slow. can be solved with a quaife rack or a rack quickener. awesome video!
Im 16 but i want the aw11 to be my first car, nothing else. xD and yeah the aw11 are becoming more and more expenisve in 10 years they are gonna be real oldies xD
@@eliseiodagiu5519 I wanted an S13 as my first car, then I realized how much insurance is and also finding a nice one that isn't falling apart. Now I am planning on getting a Honda Fit, I wish you luck in getting an AW11 lol :) (I am 17)
@@pop455rc s13 cost much more and are more desirable than aw11's are, they are harder to find in North America as well. Insurance for aw11 isn't high since its not high in hp and many owners are starting to get their collectors plates which lowers the cost of insurance for the vehicle. It's pointless to compare the aw11 to the s13 anyway since its not a car that people make massive modifications to. Also, most owners of the aw11 are older folks (in my area) who kept their aw11's in pristine form. I will try to scoop one up when I can.
@@eliseiodagiu5519 I am sorry, when I looked at insurance rates in Ontario Canada for anything people modified and seen as sporty the rate was always in the red. Even IS300's which are basically all automatic, GC8's which never came as WRX or STI and are hard to find. Guess I am still clueless...
nice aw11! surprised to see that C-pillar not cracked to hell 👍 there is a difference between the mk1a and mk1b in terms of the amount of angle you get a full lock out of the steering wheel, however am not sure if the ratios are the same, in both instances Toyota probably made the steering more forgiving towards aggressive inputs, along with the rear swaybar delete in an attempt to respond to how people were spinning out in the more lively mk1a aw11s.
Nice A-Dub! Techno Toy Tuning offers a quick rack bolt in set up that should help with the slow steering feel. Also ST-sway bar kit for the AW11 has the rear mounts for OEM struts not sure on the BC’s though. Might have to weld on mounting tabs. Although they are BC coils. I would probably toss them in the trash first since they are junk to begin with. 😉 Nice car. Take care of it and it will only increase in value. Cheers!
If you ever come to Texas my Aw11 has a 2zz with some fun bolt ons, fresh suspension. Btw if you feel a lag or lack or response from the steering it's probably rim & tire combos. Try 14in rims up front, should fix that right up.
Thanks for sharing, i also have an 1989 NA, you just gave me more motivation to fire mine up after 12 years in the garage, except that my fuelpump is stuck. I hear you can jump the fuel pump at the computer port and get it unstuck after a while. Gonna try that next time.
Been a aw11 owner and enthusiast for 25 years. Love these cars. Still got the one I bought in 1995 and one I bought in 2006. I only have the 2 left out of 5 3/4 aw11's I owned at one time. They still have the stock steering rack and I find them responsive. Power steering is not needed in a aw11, go do some arm curls with some weights... 😉 I don't run rear sway bars at all. Sounds like you're running autox wheel alignment settings with 0 toe up front, which isn't the best for high speed stuff. You can't get much better than stage 2 of the trd wheel alignment specs. Get a stage 2 trd race not autox wheel alignment and hit the twisties again. Sweet looking aw11!!!
Simple rubber bushing in the steering shaft for vibrations above your feet that disintegrate, replace with metal or rubber filler, no more dead zone, Also shouldn't really compare the steering speed to the MR(2)S(pyder) since the Spiders steering is really fast from factory, whereas the AW11 is also fast steering ratio, even by modern standards, it's simply just not "fast enough" for what it needs to be in such a short wheelbase chassis, whereas the ZZW MRS is like 104 inch wheelbase or whatever, basically approaching 2 feet longer, Lastly the MR2s with both (anti)sway/roll-bars don't understeer almost ever, the downgrade to the Mk1-"b" AW11 was done to nerf inferior drivers from spinning the car back into the direction of a corrected skid and snapping info oncoming traffic, the Mk1-"a" by comparison is like a completely different machine since the balance from that one change alone ultimately changes the method you use for many corner; (A- more cornering under power) (B- more cornering under deceleration)
the 1985 MR2 had a rear sway bar and they removed it for 86-88 but brought it back for 1989 the last year of the MKI MR2. Although the stock rear bar is very small even tiny it makes a HUGE difference and the car really NEEDS it to not understeer badly at the limit. Quafe made a quick steer rack for the MKI MR2 but not sure if its still available or not. www.mr2oc.com/threads/aw11-steering-rack-quaife-quick-ratio-install.676820/ TVIS actuates at 4250rpm and if when he was doing bushings he didn't replace the white rack bushing (Passenger side slide bushing: 45522) there will be a fair amount of dead space and slop in the steering. I had to replace that steering rack bushing every year when autocrossing on sticky tires.
I really appreciate how he’s taking care of this car and it looks like a blast to drive
dude this thing is clean
It really is!
damn the owner really sounds like albo

Sway bar in the rare will remove slight understeer(unless u use sway bar front)
move the air intake from the boot where it was getting cold air to the boot where it only gets hot air! smart move
Nice car! Makes me miss my 87
awesome car, livery is amazing
The car is just amazing
Such a classic
Good Old AW11s!
What's that aftermarket steering wheel? That's so freaking nice and period correct
Hey do you think it’s dangerous to drive the 2zz Mrs with stock suspension???
Love it!
Beautiful car! Super cool to see how it handles.

Interesting. Ya I felt like the rear was leaning too much.
Nice aw11 love the livery.
I like the wrap.
Awesome car :)
I know DP (abbreviated for secrecy) corners when I see it 👀
Wow! That is all.
All new poly bushings *knut*
Dont look at the camera when talking to each other sooooo weird
Nice adub tho
Also the dead spot will be the rubber in the steering shaft not the rack google it
