Love the philosophy. Strongman's identity is rooted in the unique ways that strength is shown. Awesome vid and insight into the life of a gym owner. Great creativity
I was just thinking this the other day when I was watching the 1980s Worlds Strongest Man re-runs. They were bending steel rods over there heads and fighting each other in underwear. The definition of cool.
I actually prefer stuff like this. You go to a strongman gym and they say "yeah we have people who can drag an anchor chain" seems more inviting than a barbell with some weight. Why? Because its uncommon to see an anchor chain
I don't think Alan realizes its the year 2019. Don't forget your perfectly safe government sanctioned vaccine cocktails. The lives of little babies depends on it. Better safe and sorry then just sorry (you are in California after all).
Take it to a business meeting and walk in the room and say allright fuckers the big boys are here get ready to have your mind blow. Then slam the "briefcase" down on the table..
Alan. As a metalhead it brings me great joy to hear the astounding plethara of face-melting, old-school thrash metal that you play at your gym. Mad props brother.
Hey Alan, I looked up a local Strongman event to see what they're doing and weights involved for novice and open. Could you do a how-to on Duck Walk with Power Stairs? They're saying 2 x 30 ft with 4 stairs. Some of the lingo in Strongman is a bit of the learning curve. (another lingo example would be Rolling Thunder). Thanks for the great videos!
Another thing about Strongman implements and odd objects.. atleast for me personally, it feels like you’re doing more work and getting more out of it. Maybe it’s just a nocebo *shrug*. The same way Sprinting up an actual grass hill feels more gratifying than incline treadmill sprints. A 600lb Chain Drag for 50ft would feel way better than a 600lb sled Drag IMO.
Honestly, at the end of the day, no matter what type of lifting you're doing and what your goals are, isn't the whole point really to look cool? Be it lifting heavy stuff, or running really fast, or having a really nice body, or being able to lift for long periods of time, it's all to look cool. And that's okay! As an aside, is it okay for people at the gym to all be trading off on a chain with so much rust bare-handed? I only ask because I get the feeling it could result in some safety issues regarding blood exposure and/or tetanus. Looks cool as hell and I'm sure it'll provide some really interesting lifting challenges, though!
@@brianloban3407 Is it, though? Lifting to any degree beyond making sure your body stays healthy always has some level of ego behind it, but there isn't anything wrong with that. Pushing yourself to be better, stronger, tougher, faster, or even just better looking is all a form of trying to look cool. Now who it is you're trying to look cool for can make a difference, but I dont think it's any worse than trying to become a good singer or writer, or any other endeavor that isnt directly related to survival. You can look cool for yourself to just get better all the time for your own satisfaction, or look cool for the people who train around you so you can all push each other to get better and cooler, or, yes, to attract the opposite sex. Or the same sex, or both, whatever you're after.
@@JackgarPrime Ususally people who want to impress someone exhaust their motivation very quickly. The reason why people get strong and train for years to come is usually atributed to them just loving the sport or achievements that they accomplish. I cant speak for everyone out there but for me and my friends who are comp powerlifters its just about making ourselves better, achieving higher result and just loving what we do at gym.
You are exactly right. Strongman have this show/display element built in to it. I think it has something to do with the origin of this sport. Circus and talent shows of the past.
Cool idea for a comp event for the chain. Rule 1 you can only hold one chain link. It can be anyone you want but only 1. Rule 2 you complete the even when any one link crosses the line. This forces you to either grab the moddle link which leave less links dragging and causing friction so it’s easier. Or you grab the link right at the end which has more fricktion but you don’t have to drag it so far before the first link crosses the line. What do you think?
I can see the happiness on Alan's face.. Like kids are happy when they get first toy gun.. Loved those grill sandwiches... Going to make similar just 30kg each..
On the strength of one link in the cable, dependenth the might of the chain. Who knows when thou mayest be tested? So live that thou beareth the strain.
Anyone have a decent explanation of I guess the main things a farmers carry hits? I am pretty interested in getting into them. If there is a video that explains it as well to drop a link I am all ears. Thanks in advanced fellas.
This isn't body building. Strongman doesn't "hit" anything in the sense most people mean. The events are all weird. Grab heavy thing, race people. I mean sure it's gonna work things but these are "events" and "feats of strength," not "exercises." It's like asking what muscles pitching a baseball "hits." It's not for that.
Make sure you’re real careful with those new farmers you have. With them being that dense and with no radius on the corners, of someone drops those they will probably take off toes. And because they are so thin they will fall on your feet easily when you put them down
Alan, im having a hard time finding the vid you did that described why more muscle=more strength, where you also state that a bigger guy doesn’t necessarily mean he’s stronger than a smaller guy. Can you direct me to the vid?.. it was excellent and I’m trying to share the link.
Hey Allan, Very serious question for you. When you told your family and friends that you were going to join the army and later start a business, how did they react to it? If they reacted negatively to it, how did you deal with it and manage to continue with what you wanted do despite their negative reactions and disapproval? Thank you so much. Wasnt it train ontime?
