I finished reading Mrs Dalloway for the first time today. Keen to see other people's views I came across your video. So glad I did. Love your thoughts on books. For me I didn't like any of the characters that much in the book. You said a lot of the time the characters were concerned with appearances. I agree. I also felt that the characters were living their lives in a way that conformed to how society would expect them to live. They weren't necessarily living their lives to make themselves happy. The choices they made were based on what was expected of them. They never let their hearts rule their heads. The relationship between Peter and Clarisa was very interesting. I felt that Peter still loved Clarisa and wanted her to be jealous of his new romance just as he appeared jealous of her family. I think Sally illustrated the authors liking of women. Sally was the forbidden fruit if you like. Absolutely loved this book.

Great idea and great execution. I have only read To The Lighthouse, but plan on reading more Woolf. I love novels that have a strong sense of place in which the city or location is almost like another character. I particularly love this feature of a novel if its a place I have been and loved or some place I want to go.

I studied 'Mrs Dalloway' as part of my English Lit degree. We were provided with a reading of a passage recorded by that great British actress, Anna Massey, who, with her cultured, yet unostentatious accent, really brought the text to life. The novel has fascinated me every since, and I wish Anna Massey had recorded the entire novel as an audiobook.

Claire, great idea for, and great video. Maybe it’s London itself that inspires great ambulatory literary content? Street Haunting remains one of my favourite Woolf essays.

This is both completely stunning and utterly fascinating. Mrs Dalloway introduced me to Virginia Woolf, so I have a special fondness for it and it was lovely to get to think about it in more depth through this video!

This video is another push for me to reread Mrs Dalloway! One of the reasons I love your channel is that you always seem to have such a deep and considered interaction with the books you read. It's such a pleasure to hear your thoughts, especially when it comes to complex books like Mrs Dalloway.

Very interesting, love the book and the movie - but you need to invest in a better microphone, the sound was quite bad in this video.

Örn Leifsson Yeah it’s not the best for filming outside in really busy and loud parts of London. I’d love to buy one but I don’t have the money to save for one at the moment.

Enjoyed this very much. Mrs Dalloway is the only novel I now read! History/Politcs make much more interesting reading than fiction, but every once in a while I have to return to Mrs Dalloway. Ok, I read Shakespeare and occasionally Sherlock Holmes. If anyone says Sherlock Holmes is fiction I will sue ;) Thanks again.

Unfortunately this was an old video before I could afford a microphone as I’m not a presenter so sorry about that. I do have a more recent video of the walk which you might find interesting!

Thank you for this video. It reminded me how much joy I got from reading Mrs. Dalloway almost a year ago, I would probably reread it in the coming months.
