Lately, Israel has been producing a large amount of rising young talents and international success, it seems they're going to become a seller's league pretty soon. Amongst all the wonderkids, there's a 18 y/o who's going under the radar of most people but is showing great ability to perform in the top flight on his first pro season. His name is Adi Yona (עדי יונה), currently playing for Beitar Jerusalem (בית"ר ירושלים), steadily getting more minutes and earning a few games on the starting eleven already.
+ Naturally an AM, slim build, agile and quick, but wide range of off the ball movement and ability to read the game make him suitable for more central zones.
+ Usually positions himself forward, away from the build up, but takes advantage of the opponents blindspots to drop back and create lanes of passing free from markers, capable of moving laterally and vertically, more confortable in providing support from the wing.
+ Can play as a more off the ball AM or as a more supportive midfielder, specially playing more wide, while also having a commendable defensive contribution.
+ Great acceleration really complement his playstyle, using quick burst of speed to exploit the defenders try to press him, after he appears on his own half free of markers, into easy 1v1 duels.
+ Emphasis on teamwork, even tho he's the most advanced midfielder, he doesn't mind having a more secundary role, being more focused on providing offensive and defensive coverage, and doing a lot of the team's dirty work.
+ Agressiveness on and off the ball but also on the defensive end while pressing and tackling, covering for the defenders, protecting the team from transitions, with impressive work rate.
- Some potential on his ability to challenge on the 1v1 due to his quickness and good definition of the first touch but needs to tighten his dribble and also to become a much better passer in order to succeed in his position.
- Really fast in getting to his top speed, but lack of pace over long distances means he is catched fairly easy, an hinderance in his ability of being dangerous on the counter attack.
- By far his most disappointing characteristic is his strength, easily overpowered, most of his lost 1v1's where due to contact play.
Right now it's hard form me to think he will be one of the faces of Israel's imminent affirmation in the football scene, but making great strides domestically on his first ever experience, getting called up to the national team in the future might be improbable, but I'm sure he'll become a household name of the league for many years to come.
