I love imagining a ROM Hack where useless curiosities like this one are the required solution to a room. While useless in the context of the vanilla game, there are so many oddities that could be of use but sadly never meet their potential due to circumstance.
Thanks! I think it's a convenient way of leaving the gameplay uncovered while also providing text based commentary. It also prevents halting the gameplay, so if you read fast you have something interesting to look at while waiting for more text.
From the description: > It can't be used for Arbitrary Code Execution I realize I'm being a bit facetious, but you could probably use glitch powerups and then enter the water to run ACE. I mean, you could have done that anyway, because the level has water in it already, but it'd be funny to add yet another glitch to the process. Bonus points (pardon the pun) if you get a large number of points in order to cause the lag frames.
Alright, yeah, glitch powerups could be used in combination with this, but the key matter is that on it's own it's just a fun glitch. It doesn't send you to a Parallel Universe or anything. Though if you get the screen to scroll high enough, you can jump so far upwards, that the death barrier triggers. You're on screen 1, and your sprite position is within the range to kill you for "falling in a pit". I probably should've put that in the video.
I think these useless curiosities are often my favorites.

Wow neat
So cool that things like this are still being found
maybe the real use for this glitch is the friends we made along the way
True
I love the way you have Mario 3 on the left side, and the text on the right.

Cant believe they are still finding things like this. Very cool

Really interesting
I've never seen this one before! Thanks for the cool vid!
can this be used to have the screen scroll downwards
Yeah, but the result is pretty underwhelming, and it's much harder to maintain the lag when everything falls through the water and despawns.
Playaround TAS when
why is it that the level disappeared right as i exited full screen?
This is funny lmao
