" Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, was on duty at the south London prison when she entered the prisoner’s cell on 27 June and had sex with him. The encounter was filmed by another inmate and went viral on social media. She was subsequently identified by HMP Wandsworth staff and was arrested by the Metropolitan Police at Heathrow Airport. Linda, 30, of Fulham, south-west London, pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in a public office at a hearing at Isleworth Crown Court."

In the UK you can be up for parole after 15 to 20 years served on a life sentence.
I don't think charges should be filed at all. They were both consenting adults. I know they do that because of the power imbalance, but 9 times out of 10 both parties are consenting adults. The guard should be fired and not able to work in a position like that ever again, but I don't think they should go to prison for it.

Exactly!! "Her side" is: she CHOSE to have sex with an inmate, and CHOSE to let it be taped! Unless the inmates drugged her and she was unconscious, I can't see any other "side." I agree with her being made an example of, although life seems excessive to me. But at least 20 years, and I think all prison guards who do this should be prosecuted, not just fired. What a perverse world we live in!

I work at a prison in Oregon. I am always shocked when a DOC employee crosses the line in any way. We get yearly training on boundaries & what the consequences are should you cross them. I’m like hell no, never! Hep C anyone?!

My cousin was a prison guard. He tells me that they aren’t allowed to have personal conversations of any kind with the prisoners. When the prisoners know about your personal life, they can find ways to manipulate the guards.

@@Shellygrrl2573That's one of the problems as I see it. A guard has power and authority over the inmates. Therefore, having sex with them is a BIG power imbalance. Some inmates may agree to sex with guards, but to protect ALL of the inmates, and ALL of the guards, and the State from prosecution, it has to be dealt with as a crime, and the consequences against the guards should be swift and harsh. However, I am equally certain that in this particular case, the inmate was very willing to have sex with her. That doesn't make the guard any less culpable, though.

Well In a prison that's how it is! In my state if they are charged doing that, they have to register as a sex offender. You'd be surprised how many guards manipulate and take advantage of their power. I've seen it, believe me. She should be punished and punished severely!

Agreed. 5yrs is an appropriate sentence. I also believe women should not work in men’s prisons and visa versa. That would fix some of it, but of course same gender sex happens too.

I will never forget working a O.T. in a different unit and the S&E dropped off some p/w. He warned me not to cover the next unit EARLY for count . So being new and not aware of the joke , I not only went early but I also made sure that I made no noise. I shook my keys when I was close to the office , I heard all kinds of noise and 5 inmates run out all in just tee shirts and boxers . It was disgusting a week later she was gone ,, admin leave to TERMINATION and I would bet the house that she told everyone that she quit or that she was discriminated against for being a minority female. I talked to her during the next count and she was so dismissive and distant , saying nothing was going on ? 2 AM and multiple half dressed inmates in a room with no lights on 🤯 🙃😳

I work at a Vet clinic in Alberta,Canada. This litter is becoming a nightmare up here. Cat owners will come in with their cats and pretty much tell us what is wrong with them, refuse to pay for tests and argue if the test don't show what they say the litter does

This is an important comment I wish there were more likes! As people may be putting too much faith in a litter instead of proper care! Have your fur babies checked every year, and always monitor their daily habits for any potential changes that could indicate health issues. Litters like these should just be an add on to these other practices. And of course always research these products thoroughly before use.

Have you ever thought about adult coloring as a way to relieve stress and decompress? I have high anxiety and it has helped me a lot! The adult coloring community is way bigger than people realize! I didn't know it was such a big thing until I came across some coloring videos and tutorials on RUclips about a year and a half ago. Everyone in the coloring community has been very helpful and supportive since the day I joined, and coloring has helped me tremendously with my anxiety. Christina, I just retired from a male prison max level 2. I was a corrections officer for 16 years. I have stories of stupid things that officers and case managers and nurses have done - many, many of them! But this absolutely made my skin crawl!!!! So disgusting. Security wise she put herself in the absolute worst situation she could have possibly been in!! For what? Sex? Notoriety? I totally don't get it, I never will. Those guys inside those walls have absolutely nothing to offer anyone.
I hate when people say those men have absolutely nothing to offer, when they do. They’re just people who made mistakes, got caught and have been judged for whatever it is they did. They don’t need anymore judgment nor someone telling them they have nothing to offer. Anyone including u could be in their place all it takes is one mistake, trust one wrong person, or be in a place at the wrong time and your life is over! Those men have just as much to offer as the men u walk around everyday that haven’t gotten caught. I know so many guys that have gotten out and have completely changed their lives. Some guys still in there have changes too they just don’t have a chance to show the world.. It’s Gods job to judge not yours.

When they are talking to another inmate. In UK prisons, inmates are allowed to move fairly freely around the unit when they aren't confined to their cell.

I spent 17yrs in the field and was blessed to never experience any serious issues with male inmates. Such a tough job. There are ways to get them to leave you alone though. What it mostly boils down to is respect and knowing your own worth.
If you haven’t already, read The Governor by Vanessa Frake. She worked Britain’s prisons (one female, one male). Total respect for you. ❤

I worked in a max security prison in NY. In NY, not only can they sue the prison, but the guards will be required to register as a sex offender because of the position of authority

Vet tech here 👋🏼 pretty litter is maybe 25% accurate with detecting urinary issues. Dehydration, diet, not cleaning the litter box right away, can change the color of the crystals. So don’t freak out if the ‘color’ indicates a problem. Pay attention to changes in appetite, behavior, or straining/vocal urination. I know nobody asked but if you have a cat and are interested in this litter I hope this helps! It is the cleanest and prettiest on the market 😊

Please look into using pretty litter. The cats licking the silica gel litter off their paws can cause urinary/bladder issues and something called “sludge” in their bladder. It’s because as a prison officer she was a civil/public servant and committing a crime whilst in these roles, brings harsher sentences as meant to be upstanding citizens. Misconduct in a public office is very serious

Honestly that's what I was wondering when one of my boyfriend's brothers were in prison. He would literally be able to do like FaceTime calls and would literally be watching like a brand new movie that was like out in the theaters that we couldn't even access yet unless we paid to go to the theater... And that's just like one example of all of the things he was able to do while he was in there. He also had a prison issues tablet where he could do those FaceTiming calls literally pretty much whenever for how long it seems like he wanted... Which is just crazy because depending on the crime that's more than the victims of criminals get. Like really it doesn't seem like that much of a punishment..🤦🏼♀️

As a Retired Correctional Officer, she needs to do time. Any officer to overstep with an imate needs psychological help!!!!! 5 yrs. I don't have a pity period. Guard is offensive. I went to NJ police academy belonged to the PBA..
So does she need psychological help or prison time? If she’s that messed up in head to overstep with inmate why would you rather her do time than get mental help? That’s the problem with the “justice system” and unsympathetic officers/prosecutors/judges who only look at these people as criminals instead of humans and only want to punish and not rehabilitate, particularly with nonviolent offenders. You lock someone up instead of attempting to help fix mindset/issues and guess what, they get out years later and are no better members of society than they were before, probably worse because now they have a chip on their shoulder and and felony on their record making it damn near impossible to come up in life because your only job options are places who hire felons or starting your own business which takes money and type of skill. If we care about people, society, the extremely high recidivism rate then we need to find other “punishments “ for nonviolent offenders that focuses on correcting the behavior and making better members of society instead of packing prisons CREATING more hardened criminals.

Oh man, I was an officer in a men’s prison and it was rough. But I NEVER even had the desire to mess with any of those men. It just blows my mind… I don’t get what has to be messed up in your head to do something like messing with someone in prison. Especially knowing it can completely ruin your life. I have seen the full video and she is 100% up for it and I also think it’s not the first time she has done this (my opinion) the video is on Reddit. I’m so glad the riots aren’t where I live and I feel bad for the people who have to put up with it. The police are after these people in a big way and are handing down lengthy prison sentences

I think it depends, i have female friends who work in male jails, one as a PO and one as a nurse, they have no issues with the prisoners and they definitely wouldn't risk their jobs and freedom by doing something as stupid as this woman. My partner has a friend who works in a female jail and you can tell just by speaking to him that he wouldn't dream of getting into relations with the women, he's a very respectful and fatherly type figure. There is a couple of women who have YT channels, they have recently come out of local prison and were doing a video together and were talking about the POs they'd met and i could tell that one of them was my partners friend and it seems his personality is the same at work and out of work.
That was a long way of saying, i think it totally depends on the person and the situation 🤷♀️

Christina I was a law enforcement officer. For many reasons I chose not to be a correctional officer bc I never felt women should work in a male prison and visa versa. Jails and prisons are seriously understaffed as well.......
I'm shocked I didn't think the UK gave out life sentences?!?..I've seem some horrible cases involving children and very bad crimes and ppl walk away with 20 yr sentences?!?!..VERY BACKWARDS

Life in the UK isn’t life it’s 25 years. It’s dumb.
UK does have life sentences, but unless a convict gets a whole life tariff they will likely get released on parole/license at some point.
They call them 'life' sentences but it's usually just a lengthy sentence like 10-20. I've met people who've told me they've served whole murder sentences here; and when I've asked them: "Well, I hope you were innocent?!!" They responded: "Er... no comment."
The only time you would probably do a life sentence in prison,is if you off the king

Ex corrections officer here 🙋🏽♀️ I used to work at the women's prison here in Washington State everything that is happening in that prison in the UK happens in the female prison. officers male and female have relationships with female inmates. The female inmates Sue and get money for harassment or assault even if they were willing participants and they do get paid out. The inmates do blackmail and the officers do bring contraband in the the prison for the inmates.... It's a sick sick sick cycle but it happens and I have seen many of officers walked out for these reasons and I have heard inmates brag about their payouts

And the way she jumped up in the rack to hide when they thought someone was coming in to the cell, then right back at it afterwards… SMH. The inmate around that point seemed more hesitant to continue, even with his buddy goading them on.
The guy was probably her side dude before he got into prison. I mean... he was a personal trainer and so is she so maybe they already knew each other.
Some female prison guards do it just for the men. I met one that got moved to female prison because of her 'interactions' with the men. She then would do things to the attractive females or anyone who she felt could know the male prisoners she was in love with. She would make them miss court or get them put in solitary so they couldn't communicate with the men. It was crazy. I hooked up with a sergeant. Prison is crazy....

I feel so bad for her 8 year old daughter. I'm sure she's already getting teased about her mom's choices by her classmates at school. And it will only get worse as her daughter gets older and she gets more access to the internet and social media.
This makes women look really bad. Criminals can be incredibly manipulative, they have a higher statistical probability of being sociopaths. They need to do better psych testing on any women who want to work as guards.
I was locked up with a girl who was sleeping with a guard. Someone told on him, after she was released. The police went to her house and her husband answered the door. They questioned her about it and she said he raped her so her husband wouldn't findout. When it went to court her ex-cellie took the stand and said it was consensual. He was still sent to prison, idk how much time he got though. She didn't get in trouble at all because they wanted her to flip on a cellie she had that was in prison for murder which she did. I was locked up with both of these females. If interested the murder trial is one I've mentioned in the comments before and haven't ever heard anyone cover which to me is crazy. But it's "The Rock n Roll McDonald's Murder" may 2015 in Charles County Maryland. The case was insane!!
