mb has a wonderful talent. when he flubs he handles it so brillantly. how can he think so far ahead that no one ever seems to notice and call him on it. i could never do that. i only discovered him a few months ago and i am sorry i lived all these years without him. will he sing at the queens funeral. i understand he was her favorite singer.
Michael Ball is one of the most under rated talents of the last 3 decades, I saw him in his debut in pirates of penzance and new he was gonna be a massive west end hit from that moment on. He has also been my mentor throughout my singing career. This is yet another song that shows his versitility as an artist. I wish you well Michael and here's to many more years of success and inspiring others to use their natural born talents, along with hard work of course. Mike
After I've. heard him to sing two pop songs, A Winner Takes That All and this one. I know the reason why he is not a superstar in the pop scene like Sir Ciff Richard. His rendition method to this song was wrong. He sang the song like a tenor, no soul. He belongs to the musical theater, not a football stadium with a large. crowd of audiences.
Dear Michael. It is true..a house is not a home, without a man you love. Mine left , to be a bachelor. So, I lived in that empty home. You are so dear. How I love your singing!
I admire anybody who can sing this song, as it seems like a difficult tune to master. Mr. Ball has a powerful voice, and I think he did a fine job. He's not bad to look at, either.
@girl920 - Hi ... I looked it up not too long ago, after seeing it on GLEE. It was written in 1964 by Burt Bacharach. It was the title song for a movie of the same name: A House Is Not A Home, and the original was sung by Brook Benton.
I love Luther & his soulful sound. U can't compare anyone to Luther. It would always be like apple & oranges. Still, this guy does the song very well. I have a theatre background - he sounds like he has one. He's telling a story. He's in character. At the end he says: Next week my guest will be Elaine Page. She's a very popular performer in London. She introduced the role of Florence in the musical CHESS written by the ABBA guys. -- It's very different from Luther but still very good.
Well now I feel like a real idiot ! LOL ! I look to my right and there are all these videos of Michael Ball singing Broadway song. Even ANTHEM from CHESS (sends chills up & down my spine every time - it's when Anatole decides to defect). Obviously I need to "learn" my British stage stars ! Sorry if I've offended anyone with my lack of knowledge !
Philip Hurst! You Just Simply Don't Get It .. If you had any clue of what great singing is, someone might care ... But for you to say that Michaels cover is horrible ,Tells the world that you have had no exposure to quality music... You Just Simply Don't Know The Difference! I'm Terribly Sorry For You. You Have Missed Out On Something Wonderful In Life;;; Michael Ball's Performance Of This Great Burt Bacharach Classic Is Stunning!
Philip, you are entitled to your opinion, however, why be so negative? Before writing, think first if you would like someone to say anything that rude to you? We all know the answer to that, of course not. Have you never been taught that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I'm a mother figure and I don't see why anyone needs to be rude. Consider yourself scolded to the proper degree.
Annette I am going to totally agree with you , I had this played at my wife's funeral. We must accept that the world is full of idiots like Philip Hurst and just show pity for their lack of feeling , sensitivity , ignorance or just lack of education. or simply said a complete arsole !
I know. I have to agree Annette. If I have nothing good to say, I'd just shut my mouth. Not unless the person asks me to hit him in the face with his negativities, at least he asked for it. But this guy sings really good. :)
How am I being negative? By being honest? I wasn't rude or anything like you see others behave on here. I simply stated my opinion and that was it. I even started off apologizing for not liking it.
cjm52 you call me an idiot and yet I was polite with my critique. People put these videos on here for true opinions; not everyone will like them. As far as educated goes, I'm a civil rights attorney, so somebody thinks I'm educated enough. Your whole post is hypocritical by doing exactly what you accused me of.
Philip, I don't agree with your assessment of Michael Ball but you were fair enough to being with "I'm sorry to say this, but......... For this reason I think that you said how you felt in an honest way and for what it's worth other people were too hard on you. They spoke their minds in criticizing you and that is all that you were doing! Wish you would rethink Michael Ball's version of this song, though. Listen to it again with eyes closed, maybe?
PW STAR I just did, and you're correct, it is a little different for me. I guess it seemed too performed" for me if that makes sense. Of course, imagining the original doesn't help either. Appreciate your mature approach in your comment.
Philip Hurst So surprised that you caught my post at all and thank you for responding! (Realized my typo - meant to write "begin with" and not "being with" so hope it made sense) I could see why one of your responders was upset as your comment seemed bad in light of that person's tragedy. The other was funny in a way, giving you a Motherly rebuke! You went up in my estimation by not attacking them back so felt you deserved a boost! Listen to some of Michael Ball's other songs such as a Phantom of the Opera duet with Sarah Brightman and u may seem him differently. As well, since "A house is not a home" has a lot of meaning - try another version - if memory serves Dionne Warwick sang it as well. Just expanding your repertoire. Ha ha. p.s. Have to defend M. Ball as he does have a lovely voice (even if that song isn't his best) but think he is from the U.K. and so am I. British stuff kicking in here, perhaps!
Why don't you go and do something useful with your life , people like you annoy me by writing such crap , you say you are an attorney , to me that means someone that earns money for talking a load of crap just as you do on you numerous postings so why don't you do us all a favour and get a decent full time job where you can help society , maybe a trash cart driver as that would at least cart away all the shit you spout !
cjm52 well don't you sound all sorts of stupid. I'm a civil rights attorney so that means I protect/fight for the rights that society has so your point is moot. You can't handle that I didn't care for his singing on THIS song. Tough! I was thoughtful with my comment and if you don't like it then tough shit. All you are accomplishing right now is the fact that you are a coward and enjoy acting tough over the web. Congrats clown!
One of the most brilliant songs ever written. Michael's performance is as good as it gets!

This is one of my favorite songs by my hands-down favorite singer. Thanks for posting it. It's beautiful and breaks my heart every time I hear it.
I totally agree, I really love the way that Michael sings this song, its gorgeous.
After I've. heard him to sing two pop songs, A Winner Takes That All and this one. I know the reason why he is not a superstar in the pop scene like Sir Ciff Richard. Dear Michael. It is true..a house is not a home, without a man you love. Mine left , to be a bachelor. So, I lived in that empty home. You are so dear. How I love your singing!

Awesome
DIONNE WARWICK sang the definitive version of "A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME." And her record charted highest on the Billboard Hot 100.
Thank you for posting! One of my favorite songs by Michael Ball (and my favorite version). What is this from?
hot- Cute.. I Adore HIM!!!
LOL probably years late in replying - I am sure it is from the MIchael Ball Show so it will be about 94.
I played the life out of this song when my partner decided to move on without me.
I love Luther & his soulful sound. U can't compare anyone to Luther. It would always be like apple & oranges. Still, this guy does the song very well. What are you doing here?
Dear Michael:
suzanne there is something seriously wrong with you.
I want to sing this song so bad! Does anyone know where michael gets the intrumentals from is there any video that has what he sings?
The original by Brook Benton is by far the best version of this great song.
Well now I feel like a real idiot ! LOL ! I look to my right and there are all these videos of Michael Ball singing Broadway song. Dusty Springfield & Burt Bacharach - A House Is Not A Home.
I love Luther's version of this song.

SO AGREE WITH YOU!
He sings this absolutey beautifully - it will always be a Barbra Streisand tune tho
You mean a DIONNE WARWICK song!

Jorell Canuel honesty isn't negativity. Learn the difference.
No one should ever sing this song except Luther stop trying lmao wow
Lol
I'm sorry to say this but this is a horrible cover of this song. The singer is easy too awkward. Almost creepy.

MB at his prime, never will this version be replicated again, even by MB himself, JMHO.
I'm sorry to say this but this is a horrible cover of this song. The singer is easy too awkward. Almost creepy.
