    I’ve been on both side of the scale. I definitely think that every candidate deserves a closure. But the bare minimum is: every candidate that is invited for any types of interview need a closure. There was a time when I spent weeks preparing for multiple levels of interviews, and they kept me strung along for months and eventually ghosted me. In a hindsight, that’s probably a bad environment to work with anyway.

    Per my job interviewing experience, if at the end of the interview the interviewer says "we have other candidates to interview and we'll call you in 3 weeks to tell you one way or the other if we decide to hire you" most of the time you won't get hired and you could call them in said time where they'll likely tell you that they went for someone else.
    As for closure, I disagree with that as it's like trying to chase people who no longer want to talk to you and their ghosting and silence is a response. I've learned the hard way about that with some people.

    I got ghosted after a very positive phone screen, and then a request for a schedule on next steps. Provided schedule, didn't hear back. I mean, c'mon. So anyway, my rule is 3 strikes and you're out. I followed up 2 days later, and again 5 business days later. I may still apply with that company, but I'm not going to be as motivated now because that level of unprofessionalism is a red flag no matter how you look at it. "Yes, we're ready to schedule you for 2nd round interviews!".... crickets. (eye roll)... do companies not know that we're interviewing them too? Do they assume there are no future roles we might be interested in if this one doesn't work?
    Even an automated response from the business takes little effort to engage and at least provides closure to the candidate. I have no problem continuing to work with those companies.

    How ironic as I am dealing with this right now! Had a really great phone screen last Friday with a hiring manager. Talked for 55 minutes about the position and my background and she confirmed she wanted to move on to a technical interview and she liked what she heard. I asked about a time line but she wasnt sure as the lead developer would be conducting them. Its been crickets since then and just sent a follow up this morning. Granted its only been 6 days but im less and less hopefuly by the day. Im fine if I am rejected but I would love some kind of response! Its also disappointing because software engineering/development takes multiple rounds to even get offers and at any time in the process they can just drop you. These interviews also take a lot of time to prep and study for so it can be exhuasting if it doesnt result in anything.

    The current job market has unfortunately been the worst I’ve seen in 30 years. I’ve put in 50 apps and have only gotten two first round phone interviews and an online assessment in what I would consider a reasonable amount of time (kudos to those companies). Unfortunately, one of those positions got put on hold about a week after I interviewed, and I’m still waiting to hear from the other after 2 weeks now.
    It’s a pretty scary market right now, and I’m growing more concerned by the day that I won’t be able to land a management role again.. and at my age, it seems even more difficult to have to get a position where I have to hope to work my way up again.

    Thanks for these videos, they are helping me. I am unemplyed at the moment. I lost my job as a teacher, yes it was very stressful for me. I am considering just doing it part-time and my dream is to teach yoga, and also languages and do massage. I have been ghosted by yoga studios I have approached online, ok this is maybe not really ghosting, but it does make you feel low. Then I had such a strange experience. I was invited for an interview at a studio and the lady said sure no problem that can work there and then she just ghosted me. It made me so sad. I even called her and she claimed that maybe the email had fallen into spam. I said that I understood, was very feiendly and sent it again, again no reply. I am considering sending her an email and telling her how it made me feel. Really sad that people can be like that. Also, it was weird that in the interview all she wanted to talk about what I thought of Czech people. I said they were really nice and she began to argue saying they were cold. I said that I really thought there were cultural differences, but that people are people and so on. She proceeded to talk about how American are fake. It was unprofessional. There’s never a good excuse to get ghosted. Especially not the candidates fault. It’s fine if you’re not what the company is looking for but everyone deserves closure. You probably wouldn’t want to work for them anyways if that’s how they treat and disrespect potential employees.

    How do you handle questions about being fired previously if you were fired but believe it was an unjust decision?

    • @boricuababyhuey7576
      @boricuababyhuey7576 2 месяца назад +7

      I would steer clear of saying you have been fired and definitely would not bring up and unjustness just to avoid flagging the interviewing company.
      You could say you parted ways mutually or the role wasnt a good fit. If you do say you were fired sell how you have grown. Best to avoid mention though. Background checks are usually going to confirm dates employed etc. Most companies do not want a lawsuit due to a bad reference preventing a job offer.

      @@boricuababyhuey7576 I get that, but the company that did this to him is known for underhanded tactics - like saying he is not eligible for re-hire which is just code for "we fired him" - without going into further details. Plus, he is worried that if he gets a job that leaving out the truth may get him fired should they find out later. He really did get a raw deal....but we all get them in the US workforce. It isn't designed for the workers.

    Ghosting means the company changed their mind about hiring you, posted the position to pipeline candidates in the future, hired internal candidate, or decided not to fill the position. In any case, there is no need to call or email company. If you really like the company keep posting for openings.

    So the advice is 'beg the recruiter to keep you updated', jesus. They can just send a form rejection notice out, I use ghosting as a filtering tool for who not to work for.

    I got ghosted by a manager, and I ended up giving him a few hints that I was still here waiting for him to get back to me, and he had me banned from his business. Is there anything I can do?

      Nothing you can do. Banned as in "He blocked your emails because your wording and actions were weird?" OR "He invited you out of his business because your in person wording and actions were weird?"
