I constructed a home made whizbang bird plucker by picking up a second hand washing machine from the goodwill for $30. Took the cabinet lid off, wired the solenoid switch so that it only runs on the spin cycle. Drilled holes on the tub walls and bottom, installed rubber fingers purchased from the Kent rubber company. Make sure to cut several gaps or larger holes in the bottom of the tub for the water and feathers to drain out. Its not as pretty as a whizbang, but works and total cost under $75. Or to cut cost further you can use 4 inch garden hose pieces secured with 3/8 stainless steel bolts - as I had initially used for the first year. But the rubber fingers work much better. Next spring I will build a wooden frame with garden cart type wheels for mobility and discard the washer body. I don't raise chickens but hunt a lot of ducks and geese. I can clean the entire goose now instead of just breasting out the bird
oh man , and I remember sitting for an hour with my grandma , just plucking and dunking just to get all the feathers off, all that wasted time..?....wait a minute , I remember now. That was when I heard the best stories of days gone by and had some of the best bonding times with my grandma and occasionally grandpa when he wasn't taking care of his other 80 hogs, 200 head of cattle , or working his 188 acres of grain and hay fields. I loved spending summers working on his farm.

WOW I put my neighbor's 3 cats in the one I built - really noisy but when I turned it off I had roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans - WOW - Thanks lets' go hunting!

I don't know if I would spend that much to build one. For a couple of more bucks I woulda bought one. Im building one but we policed up a lot of parts and have less than a hundie into it. But it is a fun project. Great job

very nice job, you can also use the fat ends of bungee cords for the rubber tips. but I like your idea better. are those tire valve's ? I guess you would cut off the brass threads first.

Heat the fingers in boiling water, then apply silicone grease to pull them through the plate.

My grandparents use to raise chickens and I would go and help kill and pluck chickens by hand we used a big tub of warm water and pluck them it would take a while wish we had one of those instead
