Production based racing, so much more interesting than the clones they race these days. The old girls might not have been as fast as the supercars but had loads more character and might l say relevance to the average fan, not to mention the drivers who really were themselves such lovable laricans.
the modern equivalent I reckon :) ruclips.net/video/N81cEqZEDVQ/видео.html V8 Supercars are boring compared to these guys.
They where not that much slower. But oh so much more exciting. The guy that start v8 super car needs no Vaseline. What a wanker
so many great memories with all the big names, as a kid i was blown away by these cars pace and lap times now it just comes down to pit times and milliseconds
Seat of the pants racing, great days, great drivers great cars!!Commentators sounded like they were on the piss though.
The L34 biggest weakness was the diff....Brocky had it under control as usual💪💪💪
Escorts, Gemini, Alfas awesome he he
Sounds like the bloody melbourne cup, great cars though
Commentator racing as fast as the cars in the first two laps. Sounds like horse racing 😂
Thats racing
Not often you get to hear Mike Raymond there in the ABC commentary box!
Mike started on the ABC, and went to Seven in 1977...years later, he poached Neil Crompton away from the ABC over to Seven as well...
20:00 Broken Torana under the huge Torana billboard!
But still rubbing shit in Moffats face.
When I was a young fan, after about the 68 Tasman, the NZ Weekly News ( Wilson and Hooton) ran a assessment of who might be future NZ GP drivers to follow Amon, Hulme etc. Saloon car driver Jim.Richards , G.Lawrence, D Oxton and Brian Faloon, who ran various extraordinarily outdated Brabham 2.5 Climax and in 197O a long bodied Rorstan 2.5 Climax sponsored by Cambridge cigs and looked a lot like Gurney's 2.5 Eagle. In that machine Faloon put in some extraordinary performances holding of Dereck Bell in a mishandling Brabham BT26 undrivable on Firestone's, for 25 laps and holding off G.McRae at Levels for longer.
Jimmy Richards of course moved to Australia and as well a Bathurst star did a reasonable F5000 series in 1979. In terms of his supposedly great rival Mr Brock, you just have to watch the 77 Bathurst won by Moffat and Ickx. As Alan Moffat said we couldn't slow Ickx enough. Ickx destroyed Brock 20 timed before his greatest fans, as they took the mindblowings downhill bends in front of the ' box' . Australian films of the 77 Bathurst are like a Beckett novel. There is no focus on what is unfolding
Loved These cars was driver and car no computer bs input
Was there❤
LOl, at 21:36 some guy runs across the main straight !
Looks like he's holding a clipboard? Probably an official as it's right at the start/finish line. Certainly not something you'd see today!
Excellent racing for production based cars, great variety, great drivers, great spectacle unlike that boring racing of those V8 generic soup cars of today.
Goss car was slowly running out of brakes
That was standard for those land barge falcons to run out of brakes and tyres. Overrated and good for five hard laps to please the ford tragics. Then the superior torana just walked away.
@@captainkaos754 Only on the tight tracks mate, Those Fords were every bit as good in the right hands, I've owned both SLR's and two door GT's....
You say, mes amis, that the 'BIG Fotd' has a braking advantage ? Is it the only motorcar with disc brakes ?!
PETER PERFECT
No sound?? otherwise good.
Everybody in the pits is on a Sunday picnic ?? strolling around...cars coming in looking for pits.. furl getting splashed everywhere... laughable by today's standards.
Mike Raymond sounded great as usual but what was the other commentator on?! Worst ever!
what a terrible edit of the race it left out all the key passing moves and gave no explanation as to what happened to Bond and how Moffat elevated to 2nd. That said there were some great moments especially enjoyed the race and really have to say how much the videoproduktion has improved.
Bond's engines kept breaking for 2 years, that's one reason he ended up moving to Ford.
Firth did Brock a favour by firing him and getting him out of the HDT cars at the time.
Brock just had luck after luck, even getting fired was good luck for him!
Commentary was shit then, as it is today.
You're a real glass half empty kind of guy eh Darryl?
