Super helpful, thank you!! I grew up with a seamstress mother, but she tended to stick to wovens unless she was mending. I’m getting married in October and hoping to make some of my special occasion bridal wear (though I purchased a Pronovias dress) and I don’t want to limit myself to woven fabrics. I’ll probably make a million muslins, then buy cheap satin from the Dallas fabric district before splurging on the final fabric. Thank you again! Can’t wait to get sewing!
Thank you so much. I purchased a huge lot of wedding gowns and prom dresses from my local Salvation Army a few years ago, and I am a quilter, so I thought I could use all of the silk and satin in my quilts. However, until your channel, I could never find anyone to tell me how to work with these fabrics in my quilting. Thank you again.
I love Dharma for silk fabrics. Even though I live in the UK I still buy from them. Good selection of colours, silk fabrics, and excellent quality. Especially for high quality silk lining fabrics used in coats and jackets. I also like lining natural fibre trousers, especially linen. Silk breaths with the linen and helps prevent it becoming baggy in the knee and bum areas. 😊😊😊
Never thought before to use tissue paper. Great tip. I always test silk before using steam or washing because sometimes steam and washing leave stains for ever. Some dyes are not waterproof, they can bleed into the ironing board cover. Satin being a type of weave, there is also cotton satin. I don't wear polyester though nowadays there is quite high quality, difficult to differentiate from silk, but also expensive. I find that good quality silk can have higher iron temperature while polyester melts. Silk has the disadvantage that it is eaten by moths, like wool. Nevertheless, I prefer silk fabrics, usually not satins. Other weaves are more forgiving .
Great video! Is it important to be as ginger with the clips, and tissue paper with polyester satin? I don’t know what I’m doing 😂😂 1st time attempting to sew.
Can you please do a video on how to resize a silk blouse? I have an oversized silk blouse that I want to make smaller but don’t know how. Is there a specific needle time to use?

Muslins are always a good plan in situations like that.

Yes, I like silk lining better than polyester!

Your shirt you wear is georgous
Thanks
I apply before cutting starch from a bottle on all the fabric . It dries and after it becomes stabilized and not move in time on sewing❤
Yes, I do that with rayon challis. On silk it can leave marks, so I don't usually use starch then unless I'm washing the silk.
I just purchased samples from Dharma Trading. Thank you again.
Hope you like it!
Very detailed info! Thanks!

polyester is pretty tough compared to silk. Mostly make sure to use a small, new needle so you don't get runs in the fabric.
Hey, great video! Does it make sense to cut polyester satin on the bias, does it make any difference?
It would depend on what you're trying to achieve by cutting on the bias.

The tips here on sewing silk would apply to a silk shirt as well
Very useful tips, always love your video
Thanks a lot!
Hello … Which silk is best to use for hair scarf? Thanks for sharing
High end scarves are usually silk charmeuse
Can i use poly satin for a baby girls dress ? Would it be breathable if i had a full petticoat
Can you use it? Sure. But it's not a particularly breathable fabric ever.
Wow thanks 🎉❤
Thanks for watching!
Tks❤
👍
I wish you would have shown cutting out an actual pattern piece. What do you do about the notches?
You can still clip notches with regular scissors.
What foot to use
