Yeah, Jaws did not too well in academy Awards. I was dissappointed as a kid. I was 10 when I saw Jaws and 11 when I remember I saw some movie "One Flew Over Cuckoos Nest" beat "Jaws" in best picture. I did not even know what that movie was, then. lol "Jaws" was not even nominated for most all major type awards.
I think just Best Picture, and Best soundtrack which it won. That's it. Thinking sharks were cool. I liked "Jaws. lol But yeah, Robert shaw gave a terrific, very memorable performance. Shaw, Scheider,, and Dreyfuss. 3 legends in acting now. I had my eyes closed in movie theatre through a lot of the moments in scenes where shark attacked them around and on the boat. lol Scary movie, especially for a kid who swam in ocean during summer vacations. Yet, I really, really liked it as a kid.

@@nycinstyle Yes your absolutely right, and to believe we hardly seen the Shark in Jaws...what we all didn't see. That's what scares us the most, that's what I call true horror. And Jaws should've definitely won more awards, even by how much it's looked as, as a classic these days. Think about it, I know for me...any shark movie, I think of Jaws. Even till this day, their have been so many movies that replicate the original movie poster.

I wouldn’t doubt that story, as Robert Shaw had a big enough career at that point that he could see the bigger picture while all the doubters couldn’t see past the day-to-day minutiae and the hassles each day brought on the set.

I'd never heard Robert Shaw in just a normal interview; now I realize he thoroughly hid the accent in the film. Anyway, it was a lucky actor to get to play a mad Ahab in an iconic film.

Great interview, it's funny but I get the feeling that Mr Shaw at this time didn't realise how big and great Jaws was gonna be just around the corner.

He was born in Lancashire, but was trained at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in London which is probably where he developed a posher accent than he had originally.

I agree, I've just seen The Shark is Broken🦈, it was brilliant, very funny and also moving. Ian Shaw is utterly brilliant portraying his charismatic father to perfection. I recommend if you are in London then and see it. It ends with Ian delivering the Indianapolis speech every bit as brilliantly as his wonderful father.

Thought he was fabulous in his role as would be James Bond assassin in From Russian to Love. Many Bond "enemies" were often tongue in cheek characters. But not the Shaw character, a scary believable killer.
