    Most of my roses have black spots 😩I’m new to garden so still learning how to take care of them 🌹🌹🌹

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  2 года назад +1

      Black spot just happens when the roses are in high humidity environment and shady, So it could be you had a lot of rain recently and not a lot of sun to dry them out before the funguses attack your plants, I have no spray garden, so to avoid the black spot, I usually just water deep in morning or afternoon but no later than 5.00 pm, water at the bottom of the plants and avoid spraying over the foliage, when the black spot appears in your roses, try to defoliate all the disease leaves and collect very single one on the ground, by doing that you will keep your roses clean as much as you can. Keep you rose healthy is one of the way to fight back the disease too. Any fertilizer with high Potassium will help you in this case. Hope that helps!

    These 3 DA roses are beautiful and they smell so good. I have these roses in my garden too. Your roses look so healthy. This year I find my roses more prone to powdery mildew. We had a lot rain this year. Do you spray your roses? What type of fertilizer do you use for your roses?

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for stopping by, I don’t spray my garden at all, first of, here in Canada, the government doesn’t allow homeowners using fungicides and pesticides in their gardens, so we don’t have sources to purchase, second I don’t want to use the chemicals in my garden as well, so keep the plants being healthy is the first goal to fight back all the diseases. Regarding fertilizer I usually use bone meal, worm casting, humic acid and chicken manure for 2 times per year, fish and Alaska bloomer liquid fertilizer in every 2-3 weeks. Sometimes I alternate 1 dose of Miracle-gro soluble rose fertilizer for the boot.

    Beautiful garden.
    Do you plan all your roses in pots? What do use for more fertilizer for more and bigger bloom?

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  2 года назад +2

      Thank you! I have a half of my roses in pots/containers and the other half is in the ground, if I had more land then all my roses definitely would be in the ground for less care and maintenance (specially water in summer). I fertilize my roses twice per year, once in early the spring with bone meal, chicken pallet fertilizer, humic acid, potash rock and top dress with a layer of new potting soil, the second one is after the first bloom with bone meal and chicken pallet fertilizer. After that I will use some liquid fertilizers alternately per every two weeks with Alaska more bloom, fish liquid fertilizer, kelp or seaweed until October. Hope that helps!

      Yes, really helpful information.
      Now I think I know why I didn't get more flowers because I didn't give them enough food during growing season.
      Thank you for your time.

    Beautiful roses😍 question about Boscobel rose. Mine doesn't do very well and wonder if I put in the wrong location. Do you put it in a full sun area? Thank you

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for your compliment! My Boscobel is in full sun (more than 8 hours of sunlight in the growing season). I have the other one in backyard which just has morning sun from 7.30am till 2.30 pm in the growing season, and doing well as well, if you Boscobel exposes less than 4 hours of sunlight then I suggest relocating it for getting better result. Hope that helps!

    How long does boscobel hold flowers under the summer heat?

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  Год назад

      Boscobel is one of the longest bloomer from DA roses. It can hold 3-4 days with regular weather condition, and may be just 2-3 days in the summer heat. But technically if you plant DA roses then you shouldn’t expect they will last long because most of the petals of DA roses are very thin and delicate of English roses. If you want something lasts very long time, then I suggest you should consider Kordes roses!
