Acadian Driftwood, on the Band's Northern Lights album, is a masterpiece. Very personal to the band, as it is about the exodus of Canadians to the American south after the fall of Quebec that ended the French and Indian War in 1763. Gorgeous and heartbreaking, and joyous when they break into French at the end. "J'arrive Acadie!" Robbie's longest lyric, and one of this great poet's greatest.
My version of 'Let It Be' is my favourite Beatles listening album - not necessarily their best but always fun to listen to. 1. Get Back - (2015 mix) - Blue album 2. Dig a Pony - Let it Be…Naked 3. For You Blue - Let it Be…Naked 4. The Long and Winding Road - Let it Be…Naked 5. The Ballad of John & Yoko - (2015 mix) Blue album 6. Two of Us - Let it Be…Naked 7. I’ve Got a Feeling - Let it Be…Naked 8. One After 909 - Let it Be…Naked 9. Old Brown Shoe - (2023 mix) Blue album 10. Don’t Let Me Down - Let it Be…Naked 11. I Me Mine - Let it Be…Naked 12. Across the Universe - Let it Be…Naked 13. Let it Be - Let it Be album 14. You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) - Past Masters
I have about 85 of these albums. Fans have always known. Critics have panned albums and have had to recant their opinions. Rolling Stone gave Let it Be ** and revised it in their record guide to *****. ELO Zoom was a result of George Harrison telling Jeff Lynne to call his next record an ELO release. George plays guitar on 3 or 4 songs and Ringo plays on a couple as well.
Thanks! I remember listening to Let it Be back in the early 70’s. I liked it and still do. I remember thinking that it’s kind of a departure from say The White Album or Abbey Road. I still feel this way about it. I think that it was kind of a sign of things to come for Beatles early solo work. I think Chicago VII was possibly one of the last Chicago albums that I’ve bought. It wasn’t the same without Terry Kath. 🙂😎
missing: - "Song for Beginners" - Graham Nash - "Sometime in NY City" - John Lennon - "Anthem of the Sun" - Grateful Dead - "Back to the Egg" - Wings - "Brainwash" - George Harrison - "No Quarter" - Page/Plant - "Goat's Head Soup" - Rolling Stones - "Band of Gypsies" - Jimi Hendrix
I think Let It Be Naked is more underrated than the actual album. I prefer the less produced version of some of the songs on the Naked album. Also I enjoyed U2 Zooropa. I know it was comprised of mostly songs that didn't make it on to Achtung. Stay (Faraway, So Close) was always a favorite.
New Morning is one you should go back to, great album with If Not For You and the title track being highlights. I need to get Zoom by ELO one of these days, it's the last album by them that I need. Veedon Fleece has Elvis Costello's favorite Van song on it. I like It's Only Rock and Roll for whatever reason.
Big Beat from Badsville by The Cramps? Awful album--easily their worst. I actually have the promo poster for that album signed by Lux, Ivy, and the other two members at the time (I think it might have been Slim Chance and maybe Jim Sclavanos).
Rock N Roll by John Lennon's not bad Larry because of John Lennon's great voice but it is over produced and Chaos And Creation is a very good album with Jenny Wren probably my favorite track on it,I actually prefer Jenny Wren to another similar great McCartney song Blackbird believe it or not. Bob
For the Doors, I think it’s The Soft Parade that is the underrated album. Morrison Hotel, in contrast, is seen as the “return to form” album. I can understand why the change in sound made some dislike Soft Parade, but it is mostly a fine album overall. I personally enjoy it more than Waiting For the Sun.
Kiss - 'Unmasked', Rush - 'Hemispheres', ZZ-Top - 'Afterburner' are great albums, that I have, and they are not underrated by me. Metallica - 'Load', however, is in my top 3 worst albums by them.
The Best Album of 1981 Heaven Up Here by Echo & The Bunnymen is underrated. So Alone by Johnny Thunders & Panorama by The Cars are vastly underrated. The second albums by The Clash & Boston are very good & have aged well. The list by Rolling Stone .. Poor.
I consider The Cars to be my favorite band. However, I do not like _Panorama_ at all. In fact, "Touch and Go" is the only song on that album that I actually like.
Kind of an iffy list here, and by your responses here I think you agree. Done with Mirrors by Aerosmith might be a candidate for your "Does This Album Suck?" videos. A lot of these albums are anything but underrated.
There are a lot of good albums here, but it seems like the compiler doesn't have a good idea of what the public thinks when he calls them 'underrated'. Some of my faves are Heart's Red Velvet Car, Yes's Drama, and Rush's Hemispheres.
Some weird selections there. I have never heard Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Morrison Hotel or Animals referred to as underrated….I have heard Seventh Son referred to as overrated. For Maiden, I would say The X Factor is underrated; for The Doors - Waiting for the Sun; and for Floyd - The Final Cut. I suppose you could make an argument for nearly anything being overrated.
The best album in this list is Veedon Fleece(For me, one of the greatest albums of all time). I suppose it could be classed as underrated but a more appropriate Van Morrison choice should've been A Period Of Transition or Wavelength.
So many of these "underrated" albums are on my "Top 200 Albums." LOL! "The Present" by The Moodies seldom gets the love it should. It's a solid album, as good as its predecessor, "Long Distance Voyager," which always gets reviewed well.
As you said, many of the albums mentioned are widely considered very good albums, so they aren't really underrated. All the albums listed are by artists that aren't really underrated, whereas underrated artists, where all of their good albums are underrated, are left off the list. Hold Out by Jackson Browne is a good choice, and I agree with Give' em Enough Rope too. For Bob Dylan, The Police, and Van Morrison, I would have chosen Empire Burlesque, Ghost in the Machine, and His Band & Street Choir instead. In fact, I think Veedon Fleece is a bit overrated. Not sure any Beatles album is underrated, but I would have included Help! or Magical Mystery Tour sooner than I would have included Let It Be. Would have included Bossanova by Pixies.
That was a really strange list to view. Many of the albums as you indicated are well established and not needed to be on that or any other list. They were good albums that needed no other encouragement. Some good album that were underrated (like Jazz by Queen) but others are just ridiculous. Hope that cold gets better soon. You did sound better today. All the best. Dave✅✅
I think the list makes sense only if you are a minor fan of the particular group. For instance, casual radio fans of the The doobie bros, may have never listened to "stampede", but it is a fine record. They added skunk baxter to play guitar on it. Ry cooder also plays slide. Its a great listen start to finish. Thunder and lighting by thin lizzy is a great record. The production is poor and boomy however. Who by numbers is my second fav who record. Steely Dan's count down to ectasy is like crack. How could you not listen to it? King of the world is my favorite song by them. Its an ode to being the last man on earth after nuclear war. The last 4 songs are tremendous. But I am a huge SD fan. I think you have some homework to do when you have quiet time.
I guess they're saying Let it Be is worthy of a higher place in the ranking of Beatles albums. I disagree. I think it's a great album but probably gets the respect it deserves. I think U2 overall is a little underrated right now because they seem to be the new trendy band to pick on. Sort of like the new Nickleback. Tusk, Daylight Again, Southern Accents, Animals, Hydra I'd agree with. The rest are all albums I'd never heard or don't consider them underrated. Thanks for the reaction vid.
When you are in company with "In Rock" and "Machine Head", a lot of Deep Purple fans consider "Burn" in the top 3 of albums - so ABSOLUTELY not underrated!!
Idlewild South is a great album anything with Dwane Allman was their best Allman Bros fans know that. Nothern Lights is a great Band album like the rest of their albums. Countdown to ecstasy is a great album people who know Steely Dan know that. It is a weird list they mix classics that are well known with obscure stuff by well-known artists. Like any of these lists its based on some guys opinion.
Rush "Hemispheres" is not underrated and considered their best album by many, myself included. "Caress of Steel" would be a better choice for an underrated Rush album in my opinion.
Sorry but this list was a train wreck. I was hoping they'd do a Deep Purple album.... But BURN is not underrated. Now if the list had included; WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE or HOUSE OF BLUE LIGHT.... It would be a different story.
Quite a strange list, a lot of definite classics on there. Very surprised to hear that you’re not keen on Animals by Pink Floyd, but each to their own. Definitely doesn’t belong on the list though, has sold millions and in most fans top 5
_Us_ by Peter Gabriel is pretty good. I wouldn't consider it underrated, though, as it pales by comparison to _Peter Gabriel III_ (aka _Melt_) and _So_.
_Seventh Son of a Seventh Son_ by Iron Maiden is hardly underrated. It's their seventh album, and is considered by many Maiden fans to be their best. It was all downhill for Maiden after _Seventh Son_ . (For me, I rank their three best as Piece of Mind, Killers, and Powerslave.)

To this list, I'll add Leaf Hound's "Growers of Mushroom", "Wonderworld" by Uriah Heep, and "You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw" by Spooky Tooth.
I will ell you the Band’s Northern Lights Southern Cross was panned when it came out, many truly great songs, esp. Ophelia and Acadian Driftwood
Veedon Fleece is one of my favourite albums of all-time.
“ Veedon Fleece” “ Muswell Hillbillies” and “ “ Stand Up” are all very underrated.
Acadian Driftwood, on the Band's Northern Lights album, is a masterpiece. Gorgeous and heartbreaking, and joyous when they break into French at the end. "J'arrive Acadie!" Robbie's longest lyric, and one of this great poet's greatest.
Definitely 'Blue World' from The Present - The Moodies being 'New Wave' !
My version of 'Let It Be' is my favourite Beatles listening album - not necessarily their best but always fun to listen to.
1. Get Back - (2015 mix) - Blue album
2. Dig a Pony - Let it Be…Naked
3. For You Blue - Let it Be…Naked

“Sunburst Finish” Be Bop Deluxe.

Thank you!
Hope you’re feeling better. Your cold is not stopping you from showing your justified annoyance at this list. 💁🏻♀️
Rainbow, "Long live rock and roll". is very underrated. ,for Dio's vocals alone.
Thanks! I remember listening to Let it Be back in the early 70’s. I liked it and still do. I remember thinking that it’s kind of a departure from say The White Album or Abbey Road. ELO's Zoom is a good album.... and there's a cool concert DVD also. Love it:) Thanks Larry.
Many people consider Animal as Floyd's best album. Don't know why it's on this list!
missing:
- "Song for Beginners" - Graham Nash
- "Sometime in NY City" - John Lennon
- "Anthem of the Sun" - Grateful Dead
- "Back to the Egg" - Wings

Much of this list makes no sense...Pink Floyd's "Animals"??? "Obscured by Clouds" is a very underrated album!
So underrated by who, most of these had fairly good reviews and sold reasonably well
I think Let It Be Naked is more underrated than the actual album. I prefer the less produced version of some of the songs on the Naked album. Also I enjoyed U2 Zooropa. I know it was comprised of mostly songs that didn't make it on to Achtung. Stay (Faraway, So Close) was always a favorite.

Piper Gates of Dawn. Lust for Life. Welcome to My Nightmare. Teaser and Fire Cat. Big Beats from Badville. Oh Mercy. Who Are You.
Big Beat from Badsville by The Cramps? Awful album--easily their worst. I actually have the promo poster for that album signed by Lux, Ivy, and the other two members at the time (I think it might have been Slim Chance and maybe Jim Sclavanos).

Desperado is considered underrated because it is the best Eagles album but Hotel California gets all the attention.

I Can Stand a Little Rain by Joe Cocker is very underrated .
You should listen to it , it’s great .
Cheers !
Totally agree. My favourite Joe Cocker album.
Poor.

Yes. Not sure who under-rates this?

not a single word about The Church? The australian band.

Seventh Son of A Seventh Son is a pretty good pick
Panorama is a Very tough listen!!!😬
When you are in company with "In Rock" and "Machine Head", a lot of Deep Purple fans consider "Burn" in the top 3 of albums - so ABSOLUTELY not underrated!!

There are some underrated albums there, but how can anyone make a list of most underrated albums and not mention pink floyd’s dark side of the moon??
It belongs on the overrated list. Some even think it's a prog album. I recommend them albums Genesis made from 1972-1976.
