That's great, but Reverend Weems saying, "I can hardly believe it," after Tony says they're ready, feels like moto for the whole show. And he's known them 10 minutes.😂
Her wedding attire was beautiful and suited the fashion of the time. Now that particular style is back. Some designers do a better job of it than others.
Barbara Eden plays this to a tee! This is and always has been one of my favorite scenes in all of Jeannie! She really does look like she is beyond elated to marry Tony, it was because of this clip that I fashioned my wedding feeling, I wouldn't get married until I found the "one" like Tony and thank god I did we, just celebrated 30 yrs all because of Jeannie! I also love how she switches back to the robot-walk to human for the obnoxious (see even back then they had fake news) reporters snapping a million annoying pics of them because Tony is still riding high off of his fame from his Moon Walk at the time! At the end, they stole the real film reel, of course, and spend at least part of it (duh because we see it) them eating popcorn and snuggling in her bottle on their wedding night!
Barbara Eden stated she did not want the wedding to happen. Jeannie and Tony should not have been married. she was an entity not a human. and besides Larry Hagman had a huge EGO!
I loved Jeannie's wedding pantsuit. It was the very first one I'd ever seen. Barbara Eden later stated in an interview at comic con I think it was that she didn't like the fact that the writers wrote she and Tony got married because Jeannie wasn't human.
That's not a fair thing to say about the writers. Them getting married was a mistake and killed the show. The entire cast hated the idea and it wasn't the writers' choice that they get married, it was NBC executive Mort Werner's insistence that they do so. He later admitted it was a mistake. Getting married is against the entire premise and from then on it was just like Bewitched and could no longer stand up to accusations it was a copy of Bewitched even though up to that point it was always better than Bewitched. There was no way the show could've continued if they got married which was why it was cancelled (since the ratings dropped).
@@heretocomment2337, even when they got married, this show was nothing like Bewitched. If that's the case, all soap operas are the same. All westerns and cop shows all the same.
I didn't love the actual wedding scene. Just a bit off. But the scene at the house before the wedding, and both in her bottle are wonderful. It's a nice wedding. It just doesn't feel quite right. Season 5 is my favorite, and I LOVED them engaged and married. This is a bit off though.
Although I loved the program, there were actually 2 occasions where Jeannie was photographed, once in Hawaii and the other when she was the supermarket queen!
There's nothing wrong with divorce and you certainly don't need to be married to be loyal. For some divorce is finally being free, like they said in the episode "Divorce, Jeannie style". Plus this is a fictional show, which usually ends in a "happily ever after" story. Barbara Eden herself actually had a divorce in real life.
Sorry Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 Cast & Crew& Fans; Tony and Jeannie had the "only the two of them" marriage sequence long before Bella and Edward's got married. 🤭
I never saw this episode when I was a kid and we watched this as reruns on the 70’s. I was about to say that would it be legal if he married a robot but then who cares? She’s a genie.
The premise wasn't legality, but that astronauts/Military personnel need to be choosy with their spouse choices. Besides, even if it weren't legal, since she looks like a human, no one would know she was a genie.
Earlier in the series, Jeannie could be photographed. Her and Tony's picture even appeared in the newspaper. Later in the series, for some reason, they decided that she couldn't be photographed. I really don't get the point of that other than for a plot drive and laugh. It really didn't make any sense to me.
It was decided that genies can't be photographed way earlier, not later, in season one, "the moving finger" when Jeannie tried to get Tony's attention by becoming a movie star but then discovered she can't be photographed. The wedding was in season 5. The fact that she was photographed after season one on several occasions was a mistake. So the only error here is inconsistency.
This show is from the 1960's-70, and "man and wife" is from old English with Viking origins when the word husband didn't exist. So it became "man and wife" (or mann and wif/wyf, mann or man meaning the male spouse and wif/wyf meaning the female spouse.

Agreed. I can't stand most of the episodes with them in it acting like a married couple, mostly can't stand Tony being all "husband-y". The worst part was in the episode with the visiting Russian Major Gregorian and Tony made her sit on his lap and said she has to learn to live on his salary - very conservative to the era and Bewitched like and not at all like the contemporary and open views the IDOJ usually had. In fact in an earlier season, Tony was saying how great it was that Jeannie saved him so much money by blinking up the food so it makes no sense for him to tell Jeannie to live off his salary now that they are married.
NBC *insisted* Jeannie and Tony get married in season five, despite Sidney Sheldon's objections. It came down to a matter of network executive Mort Werner asking Sheldon, "Do you want to be on the air next season?" "Of course", Sidney said. *"THEN GET THEM MARRIED",* Werner insisted. Years later, Werner confessed that wasn't such a great idea.
@Barry I. Grauman Did Mort Werner actually ask Sidney Sheldon that? I haven't seen any sources that say he said that. I do know that he admitted it was a mistake though.
I understand all of this. But what I don't quite grasp is what people wanted instead? Drag it out and keep doing the same thing? How long was that going to last? Neither were a long term option. I actually disagree that their marriage jumped the shark. They play a very believable and happy married couple. They make a great team(I think is actually this shift in dynamic that people most miss). They could have worked with this for years. She should have actually been pregnant and not Ms. Djinn Djinn and you opened a door to a completely different set of stories.

I love that they got married. This show could have continued, if the writer hadn't caused problems.

The only part that makes it legal is the signing of the papers, you don't even have to have a ceremony if you don't want to and it's still legal
The premise wasn't legality, but that astronauts/Military personnel need to be choosy with their spouse choices. Besides, even if it weren't legal, since she looks like a human, no one would know she was a genie.
