✎ He moved with his parents to Sydney, Australia, when he was 12 years old. He studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. His roles in the Mad Max series of films and the Lethal Weapon series of films earned him the label of "action hero". Later, Gibson expanded into a variety of acting projects including human dramas such as Hamlet. He produced, directed, and starred in the epic historical drama film Braveheart. He was cast as one of the leads in the critically acclaimed World War I drama Gallipoli. He later directed and produced the financially successful, and controversial, biblical drama film The Passion of the Christ. He received further critical notice for his directorial work on the action-adventure film Apocalypto. After a 10-year hiatus from directing, he returned with the critically praised Hacksaw Ridge, which won two Academy Awards. As a director, he sometimes breaks the tension on set by having his actors perform serious scenes wearing a red clown nose.

Thanks for this! My favorite go to the start of his career. It's a coin toss between Mad Max and Road Warrior, but Mad Max is my favorite. That film is also a success story of itself, how it held the record of the most gross film vis-à-vis to it's very low budget for two decades. Part of it is thanks to Mel's energy. I also hope you'll do a top ten of the Mad Max director George Miller, who has hustled for fourty years to gain his respect in hollywood :)

Of course I love the big films: hacksaw, braveheart, apocalypto, the lethal weapons etc but I really liked two of his smaller films: Gallipoli and The Man without a Face.
Gallipoli was decades ago and he was unknown for the most part. Picture a war film where young men are asked to rush into certain death - and they go! Sad but inspiring and heartbreaking. Catch it!
The Man without a Face - I may have messed up the title- is his first directorial feature and a small family drama. Down before Braveheart, it seemed like film is going into cliche territory and then it fools you. Not epic but touching and great stuff.
