I have a degree in horticulture, but I share your videos with everyone who's asking me gardening advice because they are so well done. (thanks for saving me from explaining for ages!) Still waiting for the warm weather here, it hailed last week :(
It’s 9am here in Ontario, Canada and we’re currently having a fairly heavy snow shower (it won’t stay on the ground but still... it’s May!). Thank you very much for the bright smiles and very helpful info.
This video was very timely. Here in southern New Hampshire, US we had an unexpected half inch of snow. PS - I grew up in Hove, used to go fishing for makerel down by the docks with my dad
Great videos!!! Your smile just brightens the day! It's snowing here this morning in southern Ontario, Canada (May 11th, 2020) and our indoor greenhouse is starting to overflow with plants grown from seeds waiting to be hardened off so that we can plant them out in our garden ... Enjoy watching what you do and share!!!
ive harvested tomato seeds so far and blueberry seeds thanks for your videos showing me. i got 10 oak trees growing been putting them out for a little bit they are absolutely loving it. cold snap this weekend folks so take your stuff in.
You are so awesome! You are just the motivation I needed to start growing stuff on my own. You somehow manage to pick every possible doubt one may have, and you just take us on a journey explaining every little step along the way, and not only saying what needs to be done but most importantly WHY! I love your channel and I just binge watch it on a daily basis
Absolutely love your 'tube'' diaries. You're such an amazing guy given your health issues. Lovely voice and smile - need to give you a cuddle sometimes. Keep up with the gardening tips and eco friendly apparatus. Hope grandad is OK - stay safe (FEordorcha)
I made the mistake of putting some seedlings outside 2 weeks ago and let's just say, there not with us any more hahah. Great video, great channel, liked shared and Subscribed.
Love your videos man greattt advice. But i think im in luck cuz i planted tomatoes yesterday from your advice and im betting good weather. I will try consider it tho when the cold comes. Keep up great work
I've left on your other cucumber vid that the cucumbers aren't doing much, but all my other plants, because of you, are doing brilliantly. So people, I'm a beginner gardener and of course went a bit wild with seeds...especially with the tomatoes seeds. Guess who spent two hours replanting seedlings and ended up with 117 tomatoes plants....yes...117. *LOL*. However, I do have runner beans all in one container, will they be ok? Its a large one and they seem happy enough at the moment. I have a plastic 6ft greenhouse and its brill. All the plants seem happy enough and its smells like heaven. My carrots are outside and I'm hoping for the best. My radish give up the ghost when I thinned them out. Any and all advice appreciated. M :). I'm hardening off my potatoe plants and they seem to lurve it :)
Wow thank you so much for this. We just transplanted our bottle gourd outdoors after keeping it out in the sun for 3 days. It was getting really tall and the vines had started to grow. Hope it pulls through! We also put our courgette plants outside. One had died previously but that's because we planted a day before stormy weather. Silly move. We have also hardened them off by firstly keeping the windows open then putting them out every day.
Excellent video really helped I got loads of stuff growing like radishes beetroot spring onions peas chillies tomatoes brussel sprouts potatoes and squash everything is coming on really nice the radishes are nearly ready to pick
Just subscribed. Fantastic videos I’ve just watched your old video regarding the avocado seed. Haven’t got tooth pics so used a couple of long pins. Fingers crossed. Thank you for all your advice 👍🏻🌸
Your videos are so informative and me being a complete novice have already learned so much, you inspired me to get my first allotment plot. We have had it 3 weeks and only just begun I will post to your Facebook group when I get a few pictures together I have lots of questions and can not wait to get growing.
Last week I put all of my tomatoes and cucumbers into containers. Now tomorrow we are expecting a very cold night, maybe 20 F here in NYC US. Big bummer. The cucumber have cages and tomatoes have long stakes. There is small overhang in the back yard and I will need to move everything under there then try to nail a blanket around the whole thing. I started everything from seed back in March. Would hate to lose it all. Love the videos!
How convenient! I've just started hardening off my Scotch Bonnet plant and I've got 6 other pepper varieties, 3 tomatoes and a bunch of herbs to go soon too!
My cherry trees had there first winter and this late cold is a real gamble. I used Christmas lights, bubble wrap and a 3 mil bag to try to keep the flowers and fruit from being killed off.
Love the videos keep em coming (don't forget the how to grow blueberries from seed!). i have been growing some tomatoes and chitting potatoes ready to plant.
Wow!!!SO COOL! Project Diaries is the best! Great idea with this one, i also loved gardening, and have just started my channel. Hope we can all share these journey and adventure together!,
Thank you! Accidentally planted sugar snap peas a bit too soon this year (I thought they were cold tolerant), but I’ve got a few more seedlings ready to take their place. Very informative video. Thank you 🙏🏻
I need to invent plant jackets 😂😂😂 we are having a freeze tonight I had to cover my plants and cover them with boxes and buckets with rocks to keep them from blowing away....ill post it on fb😂😂😂
Question: I live in the U.S. (near Chicago Illinois) some people downstate have begun planting their annual flowers outside but now they've issued a frost warning for overnight tonight. Will the newspaper and mini-greenhouse plastic bottle trick work on flowers too?
Janis, I am SE Michigan and wonder the same thing. I have lots of diff size cardboard boxes that I hope will work as covers. Once again we all seem to have a minimal spring!
Sigh...weather fluctuations 6b/7a here. Beautiful one day, cold the next, warm the next day not as beautiful. Today its supposed to snow and it's already two weeks after last frost. So much for hardening plants off.
Plants raised indoors or in a greenhouse need to be acclimatised to cooler temperatures, lower humidity and increased air movement for about two to three weeks before they are planted outdoors. This 'toughening up' process is known as hardening off.
I've never gardened before. My first seeds are being delivered this week. I've been binge watching RUclips videos about how not to screw up. I have to admit, soil intimidates me. Peat moss, coconut coir, seed starter soil, indoor potting mix, compost, vermiculite, worm castings, 1/3 of this, 1/3 of that. I'm so overwhelmed and I haven't even started yet.
I got to this late, putting seedlings outside all day for days and nights under the patio. No chance of frost here, and the corner spot seems shielded from winds. 🤞
Another fantastic video, Very helpful and informative! And as the comment about/below say, your smile is really infectious! I watched one of your videos yesterday where you play the Project Diaries theme live on the guitar, I was wondering, 1. Which video was that as I don't recall. 2. Is there a full song or did you literally just write intro music? And 3. Do you have anymore songs/pieces of music uploaded anywhere else? As always, keep up the great work, stay safe, I hope both you and your grandad are well and all the best for this season!
Erm... I think that was me "past, present & future" video. I actually stopped paying years ago after cutting the top of my finger off in Thailand. I'm now trying to pick it up again. It's just an intro but if I ever get time I may write a song 🎶
@@ProjectDiaries Ah yes! Brilliant, thank you!! Aw man, that's a shame, that small piece of music is beautiful and I personally would love to hear more from you. I hope you do pick it back up and also hope you post music online, music and gardening go hand in hand and plants allegedly grow better if you play them music/sing to them.. Depending what you believe 😂 Another thing I've discovered makes them grow better recently - raw coconut water, I've got a cup fresh from the coconut and mix 15ml per 1L of water when feeding (I also use this for rooting cuttings) and it works wonders.
Hey Lee, I put my plants out (which were growing indoors from Feb and in blooms) to harden off and the wooly aphids from my infested apple tree have attacked these and all the new growth on my garden plants. Removing the infected leaves/ using neem oil, garlic, cayenne pepper and soap solution / Provanto ultimate bug killer hasn't worked. Have used duct tape to control ants. I live in Buckinghamshire, UK. Can you pls suggest a good remedy :(
Hi Lee we love your tutorials. We realise we have planted our seeds to early They are ready size wise to go out and some leaves are starting to get a yellowish hue.The compost is moist,so could it be over watering or being squashed in the cold frame. We did have a slight frost last night.Thankyou
Ha ha ha! Welcome to the neighborhood! We don't have a lot of space and seeing how close the neighbors are makes the "my yard's too small" excuse seem as lame as it is.
So I live in an apartment but hace an allotment. I started hardening some seedlings off by putting them on the outside windowsill but I dropped the whole tray 😂 what makes it worse is I work early shifts so at 5am I was running downstairs to rescue my seedlings from their 2 story fall!
Alice Mary-Anne I hope you managed to salvage what’s left! I have always had a fear of dropping my entire tray of seedlings when I move them out to harden off..
Your laugh and smile is wonderful mate!! Hell yeah! I've started growing all sorts of fruit and veg with your advice!
A tip : watch series on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Decker Jadiel Definitely, been watching on flixzone for since november myself :D
Love the attitude when the bike went past 😂 Man you nailed it 👍😉

p.s. where can I get a project diaries T-Shirt?

Lived my entire life in a subtropical region so im not likely to need this but I really enjoy your videos.
Same thing for very hot climates. Plants will need to get used to direct sun. 😎
This process and risk assessment applies to flower seedlings also. I lost Coleus and Gerber starts after planting out to a late season frost. :(
great thanks

do you only harden off vegetables. what about regular plants and flowers that you may grow indoors?
What shoukd night temperature be for the right time to plant out?
All depends what you're growing. I've done a whole series on temperature times.
Last night 28 Degrees, covered tomatoes, strawberries and blueberries plants. Record low for Ohio Valley
who doesn't like a little hardening off
Not all of us want to stick it outside for 6 hours in the sun
