If there's anything I can do, support, help, or if nothing else I just wish you luck. over the past few years I've dropped over 25kg in weight, so I know the struggle. All the best man! Stay strong man, me, my brother and my mum have all battled with depression, and in my case anxiety disorder. It comes and goes obviously but I've had more good days than bad days over the last year or so and I attribute that mainly to talking to others who have experienced the same, openly taliking about it with your followers may help you and anyone who is suffering from similar things. Hoping the surgury goes well.

Seems like you've gotten advice from the wrong people regarding weight loss. The idea of being in "starvation mode" (don't know how you define it, but the way "starvation mode" is used in general) is a big myth. If you're in a caloric deficit you will lose weight. There has never been a case of "eating too little to lose weight" or "eating so little that I'm gaining weight". Your body burns calories every day, science can prove it. Your metabolic rate will drop if you're constantly eating little, but it will never get to the extreme where your body just collects every single calory you eat. In fact it's never extreme enough to prevent weight loss. So it's unfortunately not something genetic that you have and others may not, in fact when you were playing football and were at your best you were probably rather fit and obviously if you had "starvation genes" you'd never have gotten fit in the first place, so really you have proof just by having lived your life that a "starvation mode" doesn't exist (you can read the minnesota study if you want the full and actual scientific proof).
What's needed isn't a diet, when people say they're ON a diet, they say it like it's something they're ON at the moment but at some point later will be OFF. If people are on a diet and don't cheat it could potentially help them achieve a caloric deficit, making them lose weight. But as soon as they stop dieting and go back to old habbits the weight will come right back. What is needed is a healthy lifestyle that you can sustain through out your whole life.
I have no idea how serious or urgent your situation is, but in general I wouldn't advice it but it's your choice. Also I have no idea if you can get rid of diabetes without the surgery since I know almost nothing about diabetes. But in general getting a gastric bypass surgery isn't the solution to the main problem. The main problem for the general person who gets over weight to the point where a surgery to cut off a part of the stomach is needed is a food addiction. I'm not gonna say that you have a food addiction, but to get over weight there's obviously a problem in the relationship you have to food in some way or another. The surgery won't fix this problem, it will be more like a quickfix bandaid. If you want an extreme analogy, it's like amputating the hands of a heroin addict so they can't press in the needle. There's still an addiction for them to manage.
I wish you the best of luck with everything and hope that you realize people havn't given you proper tips with weight loss. And I hope you don't take my comment as an "attack" or anything like that because I really just want the best for you. I hope you read this and understand my message!
