    I’ve been avidly into chess for the past 2 years and have watched probably over 1000 hours of tutorials and without listing them all let’s say I’ve exhausted the libraries of the big sub chess streamers out there. Yet, without question, your videos are by far the best, most instructive and useful out there bar none. And your dry humor and wit really adds to the fun. Here’s hoping for a future of millions of subs as you most certainly deserve it my friend.

    Watching Alex's clock going down to 10 seconds, talking casually, looking straight into the camera as If there was no time control and easily mate the first opponent, is such a baller way to start the video haha.

    The good reason to explain the threat in every move is because lower level players are too slow to find the threats themselves so pointing it out helps them keep up. Also it helps reinforce the idea that when you play a game of chess, ideally you are solving a tactical puzzle for both white and black every move

    One more comment, I don't want to add too much to my other one. That third game is also what happens a lot. People just see a trade and the jump for it. Like that guy kept doing even though he was down material. So when it comes time don't forget to highlight when we shouldn't accept those trades or how to deal with belligerent players lol. Some of them will not take no for an answer so maybe ways to set them up to give up more than they thought (if you get one). But now that I've finished the video I'm going to go watch more of yours, you might be one of my favorites just from your calm way of teaching. I love the calm!

The knight rotation especially and when castled you take with the hpawn to create the box pawn structure. I usually take with the f pawn to open up the rook which was a mistake in the tartakower. I was just listening to this as I played chess and I played my best game yet. First, I trapped my opponents queen, then I saw the fork on C7, but, I didn't realise that it was actually checkmate because my bishop covered the two escape squares. This game also got my rapid rating to 600, it was also my 100th rapid game, first checkmate with a knight, and I think the highest accuracy game I played yet at 97.

    • @vitahast
      @vitahast Год назад

      i assume on the server they use the engine to check if the position is losing before granting the insta-win. stalling when you know the position is losing is bad sportsmanship but i guess sometimes its not obvious the position is losing and you are just using your time to find a move that doesn't lose. i wonder how the server logic handles this because there are positions which are losing but maybe its not obvious for a human what the winning continuation is.

    thanks for all the content you make! I am around 1000 rapid so these climbs are great for me to learn! I have a suggestion regarding what move to make when you debate between an 800 move and a better move. I think you should show the better move, saying that "an 800 thinks like this so I will make this move" makes me think that we don't want to move like an 800, we want to learn the better moves or we will keep thinking like an 800, just my 2 cents.

      I agree with your comment. I would also prefer if he played the better moves, but he is not saying that it's a bad move. He is showing there are often multiple good moves in a position, and he wants to play the ones that are easier to find, so it is more replicable for beginners.

    It seems that as I watch your Speedruns and masterclasses, your philosophy to "chillax" and just play strong simple moves comes through more and more. Is this true or just my wishful thinking 🤔😅

    So the dark squared bishop comes out to d6 on the tartakower variation, but only comes out to e7 on the other variations?? i'm confused about where the king-side dark squared bishop should go

    Btw I think that a Tierlist for openings would be very entertaining content. I'm very curious to know what you think about certain openings (expecially Queen's gambit declined that I'm trying to learn to counter a strong queen's gambit player at my club)

    37:10 why do you always want to take in advanced variation? (even tho there will be no double pawn structure)

    How do you counter scholar's mate using the Caro-Kann? as pawn c6 blocks the knight making Pe6 not a strong move? Dumb question but it would help alot in my elo! Thanks!!!

    On around 5:10 i thought that pawn to h6 defending the bishop and advancing with the pawn which is still protected and unlikely to be picked by the knight might be a good option. I’m 500 rated though, so I wanna hear your thoughts. Are there any other disadvantages aside from blocking the bishops field to go back in case its needed later in the game?
