    What an awesome plant! The color of the flower is gorgeous 🤩
    I got my first two E. oxygona pups last summer. I asked my 91 y old godfather if I could have them from his old plants, which his late wife used to grow already for decades. He told me one should get white flowers, the other a light pink, I'm looking forward to see them 😊💛

    Someone was giving away a roughed up E. Oxygona at my local CCS, so I took it and have been rehabbing it. The main cactus has recovered quite well, and its 7 pups, which were dry and scarred when I got them ~6mo ago, are now bright and lush.
    I’m glad you’re sharing this old specimen, as I feel most of the Echinopsis we’re exposed to are relatively young specimens

    Hallo, Lyn. When growing plants, I'd like to believe that they'll live as long as possible if they're in good conditions. Your Echinopsis sets a good example for my little ones. One of my cacti (E. subdenudata) doesn't stand out among other plants, but when it blooms it is the biggest star. My other Echinopsis sp grows beautifully, but does not bloom. Thank you for your valuable tips. Have a great weekend 🌵🌵🌵

    Hi Lyn, what a beautiful & precious pot of cactus. I have a question and hope you can share your wisdom & advice. How do we determine when to repot cactus and how to determine what size pot as some cactus have quite healthy robust root system and if we have the wrong size pot which is too small, it may impede the growth of the plant & keep it healthy. But if we keep repotting the cactus to bigger pots, we may end up having space constraints for all the cacti collection. Take for example this pot of Echinopsis, does it need a repotting to a much bigger pot?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  7 дней назад +2

      So happy you love this big Cactus, argh yes its always a bit of a dilemma when knowing when to repot cacti and the size pot, I prefer to wait until early Spring before repotting but I do start to repot some of my Succulents at this time of year, I repot into the next size pot up just a bit larger than the last one, repotting into a much bigger pot can encourage the soil around the roots to stay wet for too long if the pot is much bigger, and repotting into a pot size just a bit bigger is always best, space is a real problem I find too haha, because i know I have a lot of cacti that need repotting but then I have the dilemma of where to put the cactus when there is no more space left on the table haha, I did repot this big old cactus a few years ago and I think it will be ok for another couple of years, here is a link to a video I made on 'How to know when to repot a cactus: ruclips.net/video/MoroO1eIzfQ/видео.html

    😫 Someone please explain to me how my apple sized Astro Nudum rotted on me!? Just found it today in its demise... im so bummed!!! Dag gone winter!!! @desertplantsofavalon Thanks for the love and encouragement. On my end, for my rotted Astrophytum Myriostigma Var Nudum, I really have no idea what I could've done differently to change the outcome for this plant. _Thats the worst part... if I knew why it rotted, it'd make more sense to me._ So frustrating.... such a bummer too, I absolutely love my Astros. Winter still looms... fingers crossed, NO MORE LOSS for any of us!!
