Great drive, Rusty if you’ll have a tint company put a “brow” on your upper windshield you want have a issue with the sun or heat on your phone and won’t effect your view!
Love that area. Been looking on zillo at a few older mobile homes just outside of Ruidoso and camper set up's like you had in Cloudcroft. I have a feeling many of the ones in Ruidoso might be gone now. Safe travels Rusty
One of the fires went through Alto and Ruidoso. It didn't go around it. I drove over there today and it was devastating to see all the burnt homes and businesses. The areas that flooded over the weekend were hit very hard as well. Where you were driving from Bonito Lake to the top of Angus was burnt in the Little Bear Fire 12 years ago. There used to be all trees on the mountains. Behind Swiss Chalet hotel was the area called Alpine Villege--there were 100s of houses all back in that area that are gone now. Most of the house in Cedar Creek Canyon are gone. The Upper Canyon is closed until its safe for people to enter.
"As Time Goes By" was a British comedy showed on PBS here in the US. Thank you for the drives in that beautiful area I only visit once or twice a year. Keep on moving forward!
@louispaparella5766 I'm sure some PBS or multitude of channels still air it but not the PBS I receive. Dame Judy Dench was the main actor. Not filmed in YEARS.

it takes 100 years, plus or minus a decade or two, for a high desert forest to regenerate from a fire or pine bark beetles.

Oh...and Upper Canyon...go to Sudereth from your Alsups, hang a right, then a right at the traffic circle then a right at the bridge over the river.
It was closed today. You could only go a couple of blocks because they are trying to clear debris from the 2 bridges.
