The First Female Marines From MCRD San Diego | Pt. 1

  • On Feb. 9, 2021, dozens of female recruits stepped off buses and onto the iconic yellow footprints alongside hundreds of male recruits in front of the receiving barracks at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. In a historic first, the women of Platoon 3241, Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, completed the Marines’ 13-week recruit training cycle as members of the first gender-integrated company to be trained at the West Coast installation, graduating in May.
When Congress passed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, it included in the legislation a prohibition against gender-segregated recruit training at both of the Corps’ recruit depots. Until this year, the Marines sent all males west of the Mississippi River to San Diego, and all males east of the river to Parris Island. Congress has given the service until 2025 to fully integrate training at Parris Island, and until 2028 to do the same at MCRD San Diego.

To say that they’re integrated is a little far-fetched The real issue here was, Paris island was the only depot that could produce female marines . Now we have two training facilities that can produce both female and male Marines.
      Paris Island and San Diego
The training standards for instance the PFT and CFT have not lowered. They’re still different between male and female Marines. The training that comes after bootcamp, has also been integrated long before it became news.
The only real differences now is opening up SOI to females and allowing them to join infantry roles without compromising any standards.

@@MrMikevargas1 The Marine Corps has downsized by 15000 troops since 2010 and going to continue to keep down sizing, in a branch that has the lowest number of females out of all branches. Its pretty obvious this isn't so they can produce more female Marines.

@@hottakeswithpancakes774 So the remor is, it was so less women can get it. They never had women at MCRD SD because of the hills and the hikes. Many of the female marines came off the reaper with injuries- injuries they said they would get before. And them going to SOI west with the mountains and hikes are waaay worse. Lima Co at SOI was getting filled with them lol. A lot of them did make it to the fleet, I meet a few of them and they're marines. That's all that matters.

My buddy had to hike up and come back down to get her pack and hike back up while she got to walk up. Didn’t seem right she got to graduate with us. As a wounded combat veteran of the Vietnam War, this sickens me to see a WM barking orders at young male recruits. Female DI's, should be instructing women recruits; NOT men, period. If the late DI R. Lee Ermey, were alive, he would NOT approve of this cluster f**k. Back then, in the sixties, when I went through boot camp, it was much tougher, and if you screwed up, you were struck by your DI in a way that you wouldn't forget. And there were times, when the whole platoon would have to pay the price if you screwed up, just like in the movie "Full Metal Jacket", and a blanket party, which doesn't exist anymore, was encouraged to punish and straighten you out so you wouldn't do that again. The reason why this was done, which I and other young Marines finally discovered, was to keep us from screwing up war, and to instill discipline. Also, can you imagine a female DI coming into the squad bay in the morning getting guys in their skivvies out of the rack? Can you imagine a male DI coming into the squad bay getting young girls in their skivvies them out of the rack? Finally, there is no way you can have young men and women training, or fighting together, because feelings and attractions are bound to take place, which can impact the fighting efficiency, especially in war. In Vietnam, the longest I went without a bath or shower was a month, do you think that women could do the same thing, given the complexities of their bodies? Now, if you can't understand what I have said, then you are clearly thinking-impaired. Semper Fi.

No one is saying women are not important or valuable or even capable of many things. What we are saying is men are tired of women demanding we lower ourselves so they can look good. If you say that is not the case you're a bold faced liar, and a reverse sexist. Yes, it's sexist asking a man to compromise on himself down to your level just you can make claims you wouldn't be able to otherwise. So, you did prove something, women can be just as sexist as men. I can agree as I was in 2141, but I know the more integrated san diego eventually gets, the more figured out they’ll have it. I feel like a big reason why we were getting babied is because we werent like lima where the recruits were the creme de la creme. Our platoon was suppose to be the first average platoon that you would’ve seen in Paris Island. A big problem with that is from what my drill instructor said, that san diego is way more physically demanding than the east. When a bunch of recruits started breaking, it was easier to retain them then to drop them all the way to paris island where they would eventually have to restart. So a lot of girls who wouldve gotten dropped in the east didnt unless it was necessary. Mct was a whole other ballgame, but thats the jist of bootcamp

All male company in boot, all male company in MCT, all male school house. Wasn’t until 2 years into my first unit we got a female marine. After going through 3 units, the one most integrated had the most discipline problems I.e DUIs, drugs, sexual assault, overall discipline struggles. I’ve learned there is
Nothing wrong with disagreeing with gender integrated military training. Studies have proven all male and all female units do better. The moral of the story? Horny recruits do not make good recruits. I don't know why we can't learn this. The whole reason the Marine Corps is better at what they do than any other branch is because we don't do things like other branches do them...and our victories of the past decades have demonstrated the effectiveness of our methods. What's next? Apparently, a whole lot. We might even see civilians bypass bootcamp and become Marines in order to enter more quickly into the cyber field. How will that affect unit cohesion? Side note: LA flight to Atlanta to New Jersey bus to McGuire AFB with some 7 other guys some from my basic training days in military uniforms to get plane to Frankfurt. Baggage was 1 duffle bag.

No it’s not! But when she came through she came through with other women in 4th Bn like it should be. Let women be women and stop trying to turn women into men. Respect the traditions of the Corp. that is just one reason the slogan “ The Few The Proud was indoctrinated into the Corp. self. Pride to battle against your gender peers. So what happens when you get a platoon of 56 young men and only 3 females??? No disrespect but females can’t physically compete with males. What happens when a male recruit ends up hurting a female recruit in training??? Because he hit her to hard. This was not thought of clearly. This was a grease my palms and I will make it happen. Congress needs to be put on notice and called to the carpet to explain this chit. '

Don't ask don't tell was... ok for a time. I was a lesbian and serving, and thankfully I had (for the most part) great leadership. I couldn't hide it well, and didn't flaunt it. Just was obvious with the short hair, mannerisms and the fact I never had a bf. It sucked when I wanted to get married and move in with my GF of 3 years, as I had to continue to live in the barracks. Again, thanks to great nco's, I was authorized to live with her while maintaining a barracks room, which was to be inspection ready and appear as if I lived there. Rent was outrageous near post, and I felt like a second class citizen. I rarely complained, as I knew what I signed up for. It was hard though. Deploying and coming home, not being able to say goodbye and hello like everyone else. The person I loved getting sick, needing care, and because we weren't allowed to marry I couldn't help, or take time off.
I didn't want to flaunt it, I just wanted to serve like my father did, have a family and make a career. I was great at my job, loved it and I was never an issue for anyone. Now others like me can serve, and have their loved ones cared for just like other spouses and children. I think for signing a blank check to uncle Sam, this isn't too much to ask for.

Truth be told, P. I. had serious Gulf War vets, like loco type.
Even a few of them had to work overtime trying to mold several men into Marines.
Then there is the stage where if the D. I. could get away in hurting real bad a recruit even killing him, he would.
      In fact they enjoyed it.
They enjoyed it so bad, a D. I. would pick a recruit with similar qualities to punish the entire platoon on more than occasion until they cried like little girls. 🤣🤣🤣
He knew there were no limits, only the limits the USMC set on him.
With a 150 confirmed kills, he was no joke.
