Block's not within the first positions, but he really gives a show wherever he races. We need more racers like that in WRC! Can't wait to see him when he comes to Argentina!!
@louistje707 To clear this up for both of you, YES air can be forced back into a turbo which is called compressor surge because it forces the blades to spin backwards, hence the reason a BOV is used to get rid of the air not being ran through the intake to keep this from happening
@xRougeGamingx Correct me if im wrong but i think the clutch is only used for launching now. everything is sequential which means he doesnt have to clutch. the handbrake is the tall thing in the center console.
I've always loved WRC and when I lived in europe I've seen a couple races. I've also been to the pikes peak hill climb here in Colorado 6 times. But you are right I've never heard of block till the first gymkhana although I did know about pastrana in the American rally. I hope ken does well in WRC but he's now playing with the big dogs like Loeb and solberg, but he can now learn from the best.
@GamblerBE That's the sound of the race/performance transmission. The gear teeth have square edges which produce a whine as they spin each other, unlike a normal manual transmission with quiet bevel type edges. That car is turbocharged b.t.w. Turbos generally don't sound like that and their spool (you can tell by listening too) isn't so responsive to engine rpm.
@UberKuhlMan I think it's the turbo, when he lets go of the trottle the engine sucks air back into it so the turbo spins in the opposit direction. a BOV is prohibited in rally sport, so i've heard
@rngd311 no, waste gates are open under boost. The sound you're hearing is compressor surge. (Newer) Rally cars are built with charge-bypass valves (not BOVs) that direct the excess flow from the intake in an off-throttle situation to the exhaust manifold, where the hot exhaust ignites the rest of the rich fuel in the exhaust with the fresh air from the intake. This is his first rodeo in this car, so he likely has the anti-lag functions turned off, which stops bypass, causing compressor surge.
Great Video! Cool seeing the Deer cross the road near the end of the clip, Would have been really bad if Ken hit it! Venison for dinner anyone? lol No problem with using the Ford Fiesta. Will miss the Subaru. Just wish it was in DIRT-2! Great game! No worries on the bashing the Americans JacksLGT. It's expected. We'll finally see how an American can fair in the WRC on real country roads. Maybe and hopefully we'll finally get some WRC TV coverage over here again!
I'm not a Block fan but I'm not so sure about him bringing a bad name. He's increasing the fan base and the popularity. One of these days we may even get televised coverage of the WRC in the states thanks to him.
Close, it's the other pressure release system, the blow-off valve, whenever the throttle snaps shut, the boosted intake air has to exit and not bounce back towards the turbo, so the blow-off valve expels it.
Is the chirping sound the compressor surge or the external wastegate, I've always been curious and been told both. Please don't respond bov because it's not
Damn, you have got to have some balls of steel to be going flat out @ 110 mph in the snow with trees on both sides of you like that! Ken Block, you are the man!
i know were they raced at i was born there i know all them dirt roads most of the time they aren't even plowed with your running chains or studded tires
@notorque no sir, i beg the differ :D in the mightycarmods bov episode, the specialist says around 1.32; the air goes back out of the turbo, a bov prevents this from happening
It's not a blow off valve - that noise is caused by a reverse airflow entering the turbocharger. That noise is often referred to as "Wastegate Chatter" (though that term is technically incorrect!).
What's the high sound can hear in the cockpit camera? You've got the motor sound, and another high sound. Sorry I don't know anything about engines :s I wish I could drive like him :o
@dskiff Anti-Lag is an electronic system acting on the turbo, the turbo system of course incorporates a BOV. If there was no Anti-Lag you would here a single "chirp" as he lifts off, Anti-Lag produces the "bird song" evident here.
@crystynelu called a blow off valve. when you take your foot off the gas all the pressure the turbo/supercharger is making goes out the valve. best.sound.ever.
its not the sequential gearbox thats loud, its straight cut gears that are loud and squeely. thats why they dont put them in street cars. normal gears are cut like a helux
Paper: Fiesta means "party" or "celebration". This worldcar has been a successful nameplate for Ford of Europe since 1978. They were even sold in the States '78-'80.
After hearing about his passing, this was my favorite clip that I ran back to. What a legend, will be sorely missed
this car looks great!
Good lucky Ken! i'll be supporting you the whole way!
Music: 2 liter turbo.
I love your wit.
Let the legend of Ken Block and Ford/Monster team start oh yea going to be awesome.
Block's not within the first positions, but he really gives a show wherever he races. We need more racers like that in WRC!
Can't wait to see him when he comes to Argentina!!
Ken Block is such a good rally driver!! Great video.
Wow, Always respected Rally but this takes it to a new level. Must have some balls going that fast on snow. Amazing video 10/10
I love the whine of the straight cut gear box
Wow Gladwin, Michigan is my home town. Amazing to see Ken Block running there. Wish i could have watched it.
Ken is one badass driver. Mad respect...
two thumbs way up for someone who risks their life for pleasure and our entertainment!
love the giggling turbo :D
Good KENNY, very Good.
We 're waitin' for u in the WRC to bring some fresh air...
The connection with Ken and his Subaru STI was unmatched. This dinky little ford fiesta totally kills the spirit. He deserves better.
@louistje707 To clear this up for both of you, YES air can be forced back into a turbo which is called compressor surge because it forces the blades to spin backwards, hence the reason a BOV is used to get rid of the air not being ran through the intake to keep this from happening
pffff wow that is crazy, he really know how to drive. looks great rally in the snow. keep it up!
Nice job Ken! that new ride is crazy fast!
Ken Block ur amazing .. driving on 6th gear for that long on this surface is really a challenge :) ...
@xRougeGamingx Correct me if im wrong but i think the clutch is only used for launching now. everything is sequential which means he doesnt have to clutch. the handbrake is the tall thing in the center console.
110 on ICE INSANE!!!!!!! gotta love KEN B
Reminds of the good old days of Press On Regardless series!
That was amazing!
One wrong move up there in Gladwin, and you'd be eating tree!
MUSIC: 2.0 liter
LOLOLOLOL
The new car looks brilliant. Good job negotiating those icy Sno*Drift roads, Ken!
the churping sounds that you're hearing is the Blow Off Valve for the turbo
Awesome! I wish I could have done that for a Fiesta Movement mission video!
I've always loved WRC and when I lived in europe I've seen a couple races. I've also been to the pikes peak hill climb here in Colorado 6 times. since that is just practice footage....i can't wait to see some staging footage!
Damn the sound of those straight cut gears!
FTW ken!!!!, i like the camera views, it be nice if you could make them live feed on your website( the monster rally one)
Rally drivers are truly the best drivers in the world.
@UberKuhlMan
I think it's the turbo, when he lets go of the trottle the engine sucks air back into it so the turbo spins in the opposit direction. a BOV is prohibited in rally sport, so i've heard
Fork!!! I love driving fast. Track etc... but that scares the crap out of me. Crazy!
THAT...WAS...AWESOME!!!!!!!!
that was some crazy acceleration.
yeah i agree with you! the subaru looks much nicer but this ford still looks great!
That car sounds pissed off. I love it.
@rngd311 no, waste gates are open under boost. The sound you're hearing is compressor surge. (Newer) Rally cars are built with charge-bypass valves (not BOVs) that direct the excess flow from the intake in an off-throttle situation to the exhaust manifold, where the hot exhaust ignites the rest of the rich fuel in the exhaust with the fresh air from the intake. he reached the car's top speed on that snow!!!!! absolute control..
ThE ONLY thing that Ken Block is good, is his videos and nothing more, nothing less!
This car is freakin awesome and I'm pretty sure it is gonna give Dave, Tanner, and Travis a hard challenge!!
Great Video! Cool seeing the Deer cross the road near the end of the clip,
Would have been really bad if Ken hit it!
Venison for dinner anyone? lol
No problem with using the Ford Fiesta.
Will miss the Subaru.

@thatguysellscrack it's the straight cut sequential gear box that make so much noise.
Close, it's the other pressure release system, the blow-off valve, whenever the throttle snaps shut, the boosted intake air has to exit and not bounce back towards the turbo, so the blow-off valve expels it.
i love turbo
pretty awesome vid, wonder how much faster he would go with studded tires.
@Trackstar987 that is because the motor is in the back of the car i believe i saw his car at an event and his and tanners were both placed in the back
Cool thanks man appreciate it
"Music: 2.0 Liter Turbo".. Love it :D
Thats the same stage Pestrana hit a deer on isnt it? The Fiesta looks soild, Block has adapted to it pretty well
Ken Block is the man!!
@pbinamira studs are outlawed in the rally america circuit.
@damianosRC
its called blow of valve and straightcut-dog engagment transmission
I like at about 2:16 where you see the deer crossing the road ahead. That's a "pucker moment".
This is crazy driving this fast on icy roads!
@MetalSanke the car is only geared for 110mph, if you change it more speed is there for the taking..
the 09 fiesta looks good and acts good :D
@frankth3frizz
still have to clutch when using the handbrake, or you would drag the engine out of it's powerband.
Haha, 2:17. A deer crossing the track, thinking, "Holy crap, But it's SNOWING!!"
He has awesome shifting lights
BOV sounds like little birds getting eaten!!! LOVE IT!!!
Is the chirping sound the compressor surge or the external wastegate, I've always been curious and been told both. Please don't respond bov because it's not
loeb is some legend!!
Damn, you have got to have some balls of steel to be going flat out @ 110 mph in the snow with trees on both sides of you like that! Ken Block, you are the man!
i know were they raced at i was born there i know all them dirt roads most of the time they aren't even plowed with your running chains or studded tires
some serious drifting
Now , THAT is skill.
@notorque no sir, i beg the differ :D

@mrevansb its a straight cut box.. hence that noise... generally your reverse gears are straight cut hence the winding noise. ;)
What's the high sound can hear in the cockpit camera? You've got the motor sound, and another high sound. Sorry I don't know anything about engines :s
I wish I could drive like him :o
Ford Fiesta Rocks!
I loved going up to friends cabin up in gladwin.
@dskiff Anti-Lag is an electronic system acting on the turbo, the turbo system of course incorporates a BOV. If there was no Anti-Lag you would here a single "chirp" as he lifts off, Anti-Lag produces the "bird song" evident here.
This just shows us that Ken Block can drive ANYTHING!
except a snowmobile, apparently
@raw415 well i could be wrong but the "squeaky" sound you hear may be a mouse playing with the camera or its the BOV lol again could be wrong.
that is dunham lake rd. going from geenwood rd also known nas f18 to m-55 awesome rd for drifting
I wish my fiesta drove like that in the snow!
the turbo sounds like its giving kisses LOL
Watch at 1:40. He goes to downshift where the shifter was in his STi, then corrects himself. Go Ken!
nah, not traction control. they're an led tachometer if you want to think of it that way, when its red it means he's near / at the redline
Dude, my Uncle lives in Gladwin, Michigan. I wish I would have known this was going on I could have checked it out.
Watching all the Ken Block-nut riding, Monster chugging DC wearing Subaru kids crying over the Ford switch is HILARIOUS. =D =D =D
@Industreyal ok thanks for clarifying that. im not familiar with rally america regulations.
wow, thats pretty sick lol gotta be pretty skilled to drive like that
@Tiirmanology You'll have to go to Australlia to get one.
I'm pretty sure that is the only place you can the AWD Fiesta.
@Fezz050 nope, that was in grayling michigan, this is gladwin on some ORV trails
ive spent many a saturday night drinking out there with friends.
@crystynelu called a blow off valve. when you take your foot off the gas all the pressure the turbo/supercharger is making goes out the valve. best.sound.ever.
No matter how dangerous some sports are, still there are people who put their lives at risk just to pursue their passion.
Colin Mcrea is the leg of all Fiesta rallying :D
Petter Solberg is my hero when it comes to rally!
Ken Block?! Never heard about him before dirt 3 came out.
its not the sequential gearbox thats loud, its straight cut gears that are loud and squeely. thats why they dont put them in street cars. normal gears are cut like a helux
RIP Ken I will never forget you
Sick Drifts
rally car.....got to love that long
This is the kind of crazy stuff that I'd expect from Bill the driver in the You Tube series A DRIVING FOOL.
i wish ken block best of luck in his fiesta...
@mrevansb like the whine from reverse in some/most manual transmissions right?
Paper: Fiesta means "party" or "celebration". This worldcar has been a successful nameplate for Ford of Europe since 1978. They were even sold in the States '78-'80.
