An epic anime called ‘Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu’ brought me to Kenshi’s Shinigami. The MV is inspired by a rakugo performance with the same title which I started learn about. It’s very interesting because Kenshi also put some catchphrase that is unique to the performance. I really like this song it’s kinda catchy too
16:12 there is a full is ver of the song on streaming service (the song is around 3:00 minute). Shinigami is B side for pale blue. There is also another B side on Pale blue single. The song is called Daydream and is 5 minute full of Jazz influence song. Totally worth checking out.

Shinigami is one of my favorite Kenshi Yonezu songs of all time. It plays on the rakugo theme so well. The instruments used are limited so it really helps the impression that you're sitting there listening to a story.
My favorite piece of musical storytelling in it comes at the end. The song begins with a two part musical phrase: it begins with the low note (too lazy to find the note names right now), the first half feels incomplete, and the second half still feels like it wants to continue but gets resolved when it loops back to the first note. (I'm sure there's symbolism there too, hehe.) This phrase repeats throughout the song--even during the bridge/chorus (the "どこからどこまであればいい"). In the original rakugo story, a man makes a deal with a shinigami, or a god of death, out of greed, and at the end, the man dies because of it (not to spoil anything XD, I recommend looking up a performance of it on RUclips, it's fun and worth it). So in this song, the guy is also implied to have died at the end. The final lyrics talk about the sweet fragrance of death, his flame goes out, just as it was getting interesting. And right when that last line hits, "面白くなるところだったのに," that musical phrase stops. It stops right after the first half and does not finish, just like the man's life. :)
kenshi yonezu's discography has more depth especially " diorama ". if you want to listen or react to his AMAZING discography!
another recommendation is : " Uma to Shika " a powerful song with a good and deep message, " Spirit of the sea " amazing MV and the best vocal performance from Kenshi,
" Haiirotoao " with amazing artist who is Kenshi close friend its amazing and emotional song .

Just a fun fact: the beginning and ending of flamingo is one continual scene! The girl in Pale Blue is a world class dancer and choreographer! And shinigami is based off of a Japanese traditional performance(落语)!

Spirit of the sea
SHINIGAMI is one of the stories of rakugo, a traditional Japanese talk show. Rakugo is a talk show in which storytellers tell tragedies, comedies, etc. on stage. The original story of SHINIGAMI is The Grim "Der Gevatter Tod," a Grimm's fairy tale. When Western culture arrived at the end of the Edo period, rakugo storytellers who learned about Grimm's fairy tales adapted the tale to the Japanese style.

Since "The Grim Reaper," a masterpiece of classical rakugo, is a story in which the main character dies easily, this song may have been shortened as well.
i'm not sure if it's safe to react to mafumafu but you should definitely check him out! (hated by life itself, hunger, berserk, i wanna be a girl) the dude got amazing range and interesting compositions that he writes himself
