I prefer this one. Unfortunately, it didn't do well mainly because Arnold wasn't in it. But I like that including the Alien skull inspired the Dark Horse Comics Aliens vs Predators series which inspired the first AVP film (if only they'd used the story from the comics).
This is one of those cases where I feel the first and second films complement each other so well you can't have one without the other. See also Gremlins and Gremlins 2.
I like Predator 2 the best but man... is the original predator film so iconic. I really enjoy them all. No predator film has the exact same feeling so I like how they switch it up film to film.
In case it was missed, the line "You'll get another chance" is because they've been hunting for hundreds (if not thousands) of years, the flintlock pistol being the evidence of that. It is inevitable the Yautja will return to hunt in the future.
I like to think that Bill Paxton's character is a distant relation of Hudson from Aliens. Both are loud mouth braggarts but a lot of fun and die in heroic ways. One of my favorite actors. RIP.
Fun bit of trivia... Lance Henriksen was also killed by a Terminator(The Terminator).... killed/destroyed by a Xenomorph (Aliens/briefly re-enabled in Alien 3).... and a Predator(Alien vs. Predator).
Bit of trivia for you, the Predators, or Yautja, are basically trophy/big game hunters. So they go around to different planets and basically challenge themselves to different hunts. If a person bests a Yautja (as seen here), they are sometimes gifted a weapon as prize. In the comics the Yautja and the Xenomorphs have a long history of fighting each other, they've made two movies about it, they're a good cheesy time in my opinion.
So where was the trivia? Where the 1715 pistol came from? Came from a pirate back in those days? Why do they do it? They’re own code of honor. If you don’t abide by it you become a bad blood. A whole set of comics made for those. Trivia?
As for the flintlock gun, there's a backstory (from a comic book). Briefly, Raphael Adolini was a pirate who gets into a fight with his mutinous crew over a stolen treasure. A predator named Grayback observes and joins the fight and in order to defeat the pirates joins forces with Raphael. Then they proceed to finally fight 1 vs 1 but a surviving pirate shoots Raphael. Out of respect, before dying Raphael gives his flintlock to Grayback who then, strangely for a Yautja, decides to bury Raphael. The yautja in the movie is the same Grayback, who is a clan leader now. He gives the flintlock back to Harrigan out of respect for killing a yautja in fair combat (in the original script the defeated yautja actually gives up and is Grayback who finishes him).
People hate on this film for not having Arnold but I'm glad he didn't come back. For one he did T2 instead, so there's that, but also Dutch has already killed a predator. Having him come back to kill a second one just destroys any stakes or tension. Having a new protagonist who has to learn what he's up against gives it that tension. Also Danny Glover is a fantastic actor he absolutely sells it as the hard boiled cop. He could have just phoned it in but qudos to him he really puts the effort in.
The thing about the Yautja is that they learn super quick, they adapt. They monitor the hunts of others and when the hunter becomes the hunted, that's when they start figuring out what flaws allowed the defeat. . .and then they correct those flaws so they won't be an issue for the next hunter.
I love how the anthology novels for the Predator franchise have been using quotes from the movies for their titles, such as "If It Bleeds" and "Eyes of the Demon." Very cool. Also, great reaction video!

Incidentally also establishing in the lore that the predators are very long lived (several hundred years). It's well worth checking out.
Danny Glover was pretty ripped at this age and dont forget he was 6'5 and 250 lb. Does a pretty damn fine job considering he was following on from Arnie.
Agreed...check out the Xenomorph skull towards the end. The Predators main objective is to find a worthy fighting opponent. They are not natural killers...they are hunters.

"I don't think he gives a shit!" Yes! 😎 Fun Fact: The filming of the alley scene was very troublesome for the filmmakers, due to the rough neighborhood. The alley was littered with garbage, most of which was used in the film, and plagued with large rats. Local residents angered by the noise created by the film crew would throw bottles and paper bags filled with feces from windows at the crew in the alley below. Worst of all, the film crew found a dead body hidden among the garbage. As it turns out, LA has ALWAYS been terrible.

In my unpopular opinion this sequel is perfect because: - We have a new setting (many complains because it's not set in a jungle but I think that would've been repetitive). - We already know what a Yautja looks like so they didn't rely too much on that but instead they showed us more weapons and tools. - It's more explored that it's more important to be resourceful and resilient against a predator so Danny Glover (who by the way is still a big and fit guy) could take him even though he was not a stereotypical action hero like Arnold. - This time the hunter had a different style, he chose Harrigan as his big game and toyed him psychologically. - We get to see more about the honour code of the Yautjas. - We have a cool easter egg. The movie overall looks a bit cheaper than the 1st and seeing normal police officers with flashy guns full of accessory is a bit cheesy but the reasons I listed compensate for that in my opinion. The third movie is ok but it's kind of a remix of the first movie. The fourth movie is shameless garbage. The Alien vs Predator movies are also garbage but they introduce interesting concepts and in AvsP 2 there is the coolest Yautja ever.
Love this one! Please note Bill Paxton in this! A few told you about his triple deaths. He is so awesome. I love him. He was a true advocate for the horror genre. He is missed. Try Frailty the movie horror movie he wrote and directed. And yes, Danny Glover won the battle so they honor that. They gave him that gun as his prize. That predator had taken it as a trophy in 1715. It was a trophy. Predators have been coming to our planet for thousands of years.
Weird, I remember a cue ball and not a golf ball. The golf ball makes much more sense, but I have a very distinct memory of that cue ball showing up in multiple scenes.
LOVE this review! - If you look closely in the scene where King Willie's skull is being mounted on the trophy wall you will see an ALIEN and a Triffid skull as well. Happy little in joke.
Next one should be Predators *2010*. Do not mess around with the Predator vs Alien mashup...you will be horribly disappointed. Predators, 2010, trust me.
I love the second movie. When I was a little girl in the very late 80's/90's, Fox 18 would run this in. the Saturday movie lineup ( heavily censored) alot ( I think more often than the first one). My Daddy and I would watch it any time it was on. One of my favorites. Great reaction! Glad you liked it. You should watch AVP.
This was the first film of the 1990's to receive the NC17 rating due to the strong graphic violence and over 20 minutes of footage: S- Scripted D- Deleted scene S- Harrigan gets fired from the force, feeling responsible for Danny's murder. D- More decapitations and skins getting off after the Predator kill's his prey D- Harrigan chases the Predator as the alien leaps from rooftop to rooftop. S- Ramon Vega does survive the Predator after it kills the Jamaicans in a warehouse. D- Danny's funeral is attended by his friends and co workers, and Harrigan and Capt. Pilgrim attack Pope for ruining his life. S- The Predator follows Harrigan through the streets and walks into a taxidermist shop, where a jogger sees the hulking figure touch a stuffed lion, but when the jogger finds the Predator gone he leaves. D- Ramon's mistress is interviewed by Keyes and explains to Harrigon that Dutch disappeared from an army hospital and hasn't been seen since. S- The Predator follows Jerry and Leona to the subway and jumps on the back of a train, explaining how the Predator go there so quickly. These can be found in the PREDATOR 2 novelization.
So now you know how the Predator/Xenomorph pairing came about. Which leads directly into the Alien vs. Predator sub-franchise. And now you have a whole new rabbit hole to dive into…
@@RetroRobotRadio Conversely, The graphic novels are (arguably) set in the Alien timeline. Certainly not present day. As much as I love both franchises at their cores, the lore and what is/isn't canon is a mess.
The pistol that the elder predator gave Mike revealed they've been hunting on earth since 1715, but one of the trophies on the ship looked like a T-Rex, so they must've been hunting on Earth before civilization even started.
I'm in your camp in preferring the sequel. Having an actor like Danny Glover as the protagonist in a city setting mad the action hit home for me. Mercenaries in a distant jungle are not as compelling somehow. Good reaction as always.
Bill Paxton is the only actor that can be said to have been killed by the Terminator, the Predator and an Alien. He was killed in this film the original Terminator film and the second Alien film
I liked Predator 2 a lot more than the first. I also liked the first AVP film. Watching Predator 2 and AVP back to back is a lot of fun (I always skip AVPR, that one sucks)! :D
They offered Arnie $17 million to reprise his role, but he said the timing wasn't right. (Must be a nice luxury to have.) So they rewrote the script into an ensemble piece. Quiz question: Which two actors have been killed by an Alien, a Predator and a Terminator? (You have to interpret "killed" rather loosely.)
Oh I would know the answer simply because he was killed In Aliens and this film- even though I have t seen terminator in years. Although several people left the answer in other comments so I also cheated. Bill Paxton!
@@CasualNerdReactions Yes, that's one. the other is Lance Henriksen. But to get that answer you have to delve into AVP, and also ignore that Synthetics (in the Alien series) aren't truly alive.
Hey... you caught the alien skull Easter egg. Right on. Obviously the predators have been hunting on our planet for a long time. They prey movie coming out is actually a prequel to all of the predator movies. It takes place in the past with the Native American culture if your interested. Yes most of the lore comes from the comics but it is explained through a RUclips clip of someone who follows the books so it doesn't take so much time to learn vs reading it all but it has spoilers from other movies so wait until you have seen them all. They briefly go over some lore in Alien vs Predator so keep your eye open for it in that in the next film. Great review as always! I'm glad you like the films so far. It's very interesting for sure!
i think there is a story behind that 1715 pistol, if that Elder Yautja was the same in that story, they live along time. Story was something about the predator not getting his trophy cause some one else killed its prey, so it took that pistol as trophy.. or something like that.
Incorrect. That is Morton Downey Jr, one of the earliest 'trash TV" hosts (basically playing an only-slightly-exaggerated version of himself), and he and Robert Downey Jr are *not* reported to be related, despite having the same last name.
Like you, despite my love for Arnie, I kinda prefer Predator 2 as well. It's just a more interesting movie to me. I also kind of liked that it sort draws a little inspiration from Robocop by presenting a heightened LA that is much worse than reality (kinda like Old Detroit). As for my favorite in the franchise? Prey was fantastic! It's muck, less silly than all the other films and sets the story in an interesting historical period with compelling characters.
finally i enjoyed your reaction predator 2 was good its time to watch predators 2010 the 3rd predator movie then the predators 2018 after that prey 2022
Just curious, based on the release date you watched Aliens before you watched predator 2. How long did it take you to piece together that Lambert was Hudson? Also, I wonder if he got the name lambert, from Lambert in the first Aliens
Although this movie has many great moments, the constantly changing tone prevents me from totally loving the film - in 20 minutes the movie goes from action to comedy to slapstick to horror to science fiction. What shines is the new Predator tech: the collapsible spear, the retracting net, the boomerang cutting frisbee, the first aid kit.
It's so great, brilliant sequel, exciting, funny, and as you say that last act is fantastic. Don't care too much for all the comics or the recent movies. And the merging with the Alien movies is just asinine, and uninteresting. The skull of the "alien" is a fun background detail, that is all. This movie speaks for itself, doesn't need anything more than that.
Ok so Chris, must watch Rambo First Blood, amazingly good movie! The other Rambo's are generic action flicks btw. If you want scary suspense creature, The Ritual (2017) is one of my favorites from the last years. Cinematography, sound design, cast, setting, story ... all very very good. Underrated movie imo.
@@LordVolkov well not just the creature design, sound, the forest, characters, the mood, I can't put my finger on it. It is more then the sum of it's parts let's say. Superb in it's genre. Patrick F, Another good hidden gem is The Boat (Azzopardi, 2018) Very few people have seen it. I also enjoyed Hereditary and Apostle btw. Good found footage (B-movie!) I liked was Final Prayer aka The Borderlands. No creatures in any of these but Mystery/paranormal
I saw a great description of the Predator being the galaxy's worst hunter. Considering the fact that he has an extremely unfair advantage over his prey, technologically and still ends up being killed by by what he is hunting isn't impressive. I still enjoy the movies 😅
Predator and predator 2 are the best, i also really like the extra lore at the end of this one, I just wish we had more lore heavy predator movies, though the most recent one was uh… I did not enjoy it, at all.
I’ll definitely get there! Eventually I likely will finish the alien franchise then hit AVP and then the final predator films. Hopefully before whatever new stuff they are producing for Hulu.
I put 1 above 2 but saw 1 in the theater & 2 on TV at home on Netflix & there's the rub. Movies like Alien & Predator are completely different in a theater than they are at home. A wealthy person with a media room should allow reviewers like you to watch movies like Alien in a large darkened room with a huge screen & 5 channel surround sound turned up too loud, blowing you back in your seat & with a subwoofer vibrating your ass. Because that's the way we saw them! & Let me tell you sir, the experience is not the same. Just the THX sound check before the movie even started excited the entire audience because we all felt it in our bones. You need to watch a movie like Alien or Silence of the Lambs that way, and then you'll see what we went through & you'll see these movies in an entirely different light. You think they're scary now! 😱
Thanks so much for watching! Which Predator film is YOUR favorite?

@@CasualNerdReactions Crossover between Alien and Predator? Hmmm, someone could make a whole movie out of that.....
In my unpopular opinion this sequel is perfect because:
- We have a new setting (many complains because it's not set in a jungle but I think that would've been repetitive).
You should also watch the third one 'Predators 2010'
The next movie should be called "Extra Predators".
my favorite of this film series will always be the first film, but the overall order of how much I personally enjoyed each would be 1,3,2,4.
1715 was the last time that Predator (Yautja) was seen on Earth when he was a lone hunter. Now in this he's a clan leader.
Frailty is one on the under the radar polls, although it hasn’t performed well. I’d like to watch that one so one day I may just do it!
Predators, 2010, trust me.
i loved this movie and danny glover was amazing and this was better than the first and this is also my favorite predator movie!
"My god... I'll be in my bunk"
Already done! Reaction scheduled for September 27th! 🙃
This was the first film of the 1990's to receive the NC17 rating due to the strong graphic violence and over 20 minutes of footage:
S- Scripted
D- Deleted scene
S- Harrigan gets fired from the force, feeling responsible for Danny's murder.
D- More decapitations and skins getting off after the Predator kill's his prey
D- Harrigan chases the Predator as the alien leaps from rooftop to rooftop.
And now you have a whole new rabbit hole to dive into…
The Alien vs. Predator films are set in the Predator timeline, not the Alien timeline.
@@RetroRobotRadio Conversely, The graphic novels are (arguably) set in the Alien timeline.
Certainly not present day.
As much as I love both franchises at their cores, the lore and what is/isn't canon is a mess.
The gun they gave him is hint that they have visited eart long before many times, alien vs predator movie goes in to that to
The pistol that the elder predator gave Mike revealed they've been hunting on earth since 1715, but one of the trophies on the ship looked like a T-Rex, so they must've been hunting on Earth before civilization even started.
Dinos vs predator is something I’d watch. 😅
Just for fun watch cowboy vs alien. If you like a western with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. This is it. Also I loved both of these Predator movies.
The Yautja have been coming to our world since the dawn of man. They find humans to be the best prey for Youngbloods to test themselves.
That makes a lot of sense actually! Love it.
You did it, bro!
Also Danny Glover is so great and interesting in every role
I'm in your camp in preferring the sequel. Having an actor like Danny Glover as the protagonist in a city setting mad the action hit home for me. Mercenaries in a distant jungle are not as compelling somehow. Good reaction as always.
Bill Paxton is the only actor that can be said to have been killed by the Terminator, the Predator and an Alien. He was killed in this film the original Terminator film and the second Alien film
Not as good at the first one, but surely the funniest in terms of action and characterization, and my favorite.
I liked Predator 2 a lot more than the first. I also liked the first AVP film. Watching Predator 2 and AVP back to back is a lot of fun (I always skip AVPR, that one sucks)! :D
We came so close-Jayne from Firefly
With this Bill Paxton has been killed by a terminator, an Alien, and now a predator. (Only actor with that distinction? Pretty sure.) RIP Paxton.
Hey... you caught the alien skull Easter egg.
BTW Arnold turned this down not because he didn't want to do it, he was already committed to doing T2.
Func fact: Bill Paxton is the only actor with the distinction of getting whacked by both a xenomorph, a predator and a terminator.
he dont even have a shield on his body and use enemy weapon to win😂my man deserve an honour
The bombastic reporter in the opening is Robert Downy Senior, dad to you-know-who.
Incorrect. That is Morton Downey Jr, one of the earliest 'trash TV" hosts (basically playing an only-slightly-exaggerated version of himself), and he and Robert Downey Jr are *not* reported to be related, despite having the same last name.
Aliens vs Predator answers SOME questions... This and AVP2 are also pretty cool movies...
Hoping to check it out over the summer.
The Predators visit Earth as a hunting ground.
As far as the lore for the Yautja goes, a lot of it comes from the Dark Horse Comic's line and subsequent novelizations.
Could be the tequila talkin' but that predator cartoon sounds legit.
🤣 if only!
I always wonder if the predators at the end were receiving Harrigan as one of their own but he didn't understand that and leave the ship.
Oh interesting thought. That would be an interesting dynamic.
You might enjoy Aliens VS Predator and then Predators.
I hope so because I’m almost certainly watching them eventually!
finally i enjoyed your reaction predator 2 was good its time to watch predators 2010 the 3rd predator movie then the predators 2018 after that prey 2022
It'll be a bit, but I hope to get to it all.
The Predators are honorable. They are hunters, but they are not murderers. They seek competition.
🤔 From the perspective of the predator you’re absolutely correct. As a human who wasn’t informed before being hunted I’m not so sure. 🤣
You need to watch Prey now. It's definitely one of the best ones.
Nice job, my friend.
SuperB. Like predator 1 a classic 👊🏼
21:26...TO be fair to DG he had just pumped a shitload of 12 gauge rounds into the Predator so he probably thought it was fatally wounded 😉
That’s a super valid point! He also didn’t see the first movie.
@@CasualNerdReactions and that is an even more valid point 😊
PVA or AVP have a lot of old info on how the hunt go in the old days..
The tech was a really fun element of the film for sure!
IMO I liked P2 more. I enjoyed P1 but there seemed to be more story & likeable characters in P2.
Personally I enjoy all the predator movies even the last one and I really love 1 and 2 but they are all good thanks again
The Ritual is amazing. One of the most interesting designs I've seen on film.
@@LordVolkov well not just the creature design, sound, the forest, characters, the mood, I can't put my finger on it. It is more then the sum of it's parts let's say. Superb in it's genre. Way to much shit get's hyped, and so much get's underrated because there's no superhero or big actor in it.
Who's old enough here to remember who Morton Downey, Jr. was?
I saw a great description of the Predator being the galaxy's worst hunter. Considering the fact that he has an extremely unfair advantage over his prey, technologically and still ends up being killed by by what he is hunting isn't impressive. I still enjoy the movies 😅
🤣 I think the idea is that we’re just that tough! But we’re not and that is just the best.
Predator and predator 2 are the best, i also really like the extra lore at the end of this one, I just wish we had more lore heavy predator movies, though the most recent one was uh… I did not enjoy it, at all.
Watch AVP and AVP 2 that'll explain alot sort of! The gun is from a comic book oh and Predators
Definitely will look into them over the summer.
Please tell me you're going to watch the whole series. I, personally am looking forward to "Predators", it's definitely one of my favorites.
I’ll definitely get there! Eventually I likely will finish the alien franchise then hit AVP and then the final predator films. Hopefully before whatever new stuff they are producing for Hulu.
If you want to watch an alien/human Buddy Cop-type movie, check out 'Alien Nation'. It's an underrated movie from the late 80s.
Personally I view this as a sequel that's an equal, much like Aliens & Die Hard 2 are to their originals...
