Under his usual direct, combative and often provocative line of questioning, South Carolina Republican House Representative Trey Gowdy forcefully grilled Chief Drug Enforcement Agency Administrator Michele Leonhart, on her inaction regarding the allegations that agents were allegedly involved in the 'Sex Parties' and denied any knowledge of whether any of the supposed prostitutes solicited by the DEA agents were underage.
At the committee meeting in Washington D.C., Director Leonhart reiterated to a frustrated Gowdy that she is unable to remove or recommend removing the agents allegedly involved in the misconduct and has no power or authority granted to her to make such a decision under the structure of the agency. Her response prompted a visibly annoyed Gowdy to shout back, "Honestly, what power do you have? You have to work with agents over whom you can't discipline - and have no control - and you have no control over their security clearance? What the hell do you [get to] do?”
The publicity received by the Secret Service in the 2012 prostitution scandal in Cartagena, Colombia, revealed another federal agency in hot water over a similar incident, that appears to be an even more salacious, all occurring in the within the same country.
Tuesday's House Oversight Committee hearing lasted three grueling hours, mainly covering an Inspector General's report that found agents - this time in Bogota, Colombia - engaged in "sex parties" with prostitutes and that the parties were incidentally paid for by the very "drug cartels", also better described as the local corrupt officials the DEA was sent to combat.
"This behavior is not acceptable," Leonhart directly addressed in her opening statement before an open House Committee. "It is my hope that the additional training and guidance we have provided to all personnel - particularly those stationed overseas - will prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.”
One of my worst fears is to be questioned and/or interrogated by Trey Gowdy.

Here we see, the inefficiency of government agencies and the red tape that bureaucracy creates in such agencies. To be honest, in this day in age with the Border patrol the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies, I still don't see why we need a DEA. Every local city police department and county' sheriffs office has a narcotics unit or something similar, and the FBI and ATF go after these major kingpins domestically. The DEA is just a remnant of old Nixon policy, and in this day in age, they are just getting in the way, disband them. ICE, border patrol, DHS do most of the work at stopping drugs coming in through our borders as it is. I have seen the shows, its always some border patrol guy busting some illegals carrying bundles the DEA is no where to be found. And if this is the way the administrator acts regarding serious accusations made against the agency, I wonder how their agents are trained? It is too bad that few republicans other than Mr Gowdy don't go hard after these money holes of governmental agencies. We need a true republican in office, who truly wants small government and cares to defend our individual freedoms that are constantly being taken away, not some establishment puppet like Jeb Bush or the like who only care about business as usual. When I want to be entertained, I watch hearings where Gowdy and Chaffetz are questioning a witness.
We get to see the rare failure of these people, yet we don't see why they were given these positions or what qualifications they had to execute their jobs in the first place.

Angel Asmodeus That is the problem, without the AG there is not much the committee can do on its own. AG Holder was held in contempt of Congress yet Congress could do nothing more. It is one of the benefits and curses of the different branches of government. One branch can't run amuck, yet they can't do what is needed either on their own. Really all these committees can do is show the public what is truly going on so we will vote people in office that will actually act on what is discovered. But that requires an aware populace.

You want to really hurt the cartels, only domestic policy will change that. Legalize marijuana nationwide, that is the number one drug being smuggled into the U.S in terms of sheer quantity, and where local and state government could be making revenue in taxes (such is the case with Colorado), in our current condition we are just letting the cartels keep and make money off the marijuana market.

We get to pay over $7,500 just in SC taxes on our retirement, not to mention the big chunk that Uncle Sam takes. We are not poor by any means, we are blessed. But at this point I believe we are taxed by and with inept representation. Our founding fathers would weep if they saw what we've turned ourselves into. When I can go to the poll and vote FOR someone instead of AGAINST someone else, it's a good day at the voting booth.
