    The day of Wreckoning is upon us. When the first iteration of this Evil bike was launched in 2016, it turned our world upside down: a 29" wheeled bike with 6.5" of travel, spry and playful enough to be your everyday driver?! In a time of 29'ers, that felt like riding a double decker bus, but this agile juggernaut was revolutionary. It seemed like madness, and we all loved it; so much so that it has stayed relevant and sought after for four years. In that time, Evil has experimented with and created new mountain bikes, bike shaped skateboards, and even the odd gravel grinder (Chamois Hagar, anyone?). A lot of what they learned has been implemented in the recently released Following V3, the 29'er that started a short-travel revolution and has reinvigorated it once again. Now, they've brought all that new know-how over to the Wreckoning, the world-crusher of their line-up.
    In this highly refined frame we see the continued utilization of Super Boost +. This allows Evil to increase the length and diameter of the main pivot hardware, a component of crucial importance in this single pivot suspension design, as well as being able to increase the space inside the rear triangle for ever-larger tires (up to 2.6) while making the whole structure stiffer, stronger, and longer lasting. Oh, and you still get the short, snappy 430mm chainstays that helps make this bike so capable of railing a corner with maximum roost.
    Evil also incorporated other smart features like their scientifically tested Sound Mound noise-cancelling chainstay protector and a new, lightweight, and removable chain guide. The seat-tube now sits at an upright 77 degrees, putting you in a comfortable, upright pedaling position no matter how tall you are. All the cables and hoses are internally routed, and use built in guides so you don't have to fumble with flashlights and fishhooks to route a new brake. And, should you feel pressed to ask, every frame size includes a water bottle mount.
    The Wreckoning V3 has undergone all the modern day geometry updates, bringing it squarely in line with what we expect today's big travel trail bikes to be. A generous but not glutinous front center gives the bike all the high speed stability we've come to expect from a bike that you might equip with the new RockShox ZEB or Fox 38, and a sub 65 degree headtube angle means this bike is ready for business. Oh, did we forget to mention light-weight? The new frame drops weight from the old across the board, using the latest in carbon fiber construction processes to keep the bike strong, stiff, and playful.
    If you're looking for one bike to smash enduro races, take to Whistler, and go for after-work rides with the kids, you'd be hard pressed not to choose an Evil Wreckoning. And, if you're looking to build the most dialed, custom Wreckoning out there, Fanatik is the place to do it.

      @FanatikBikeCo  4 года назад +2

      Yea, between the two different fork length options (and varying axle to crowns even between the same length travel forks) and two flip chip settings, Rich just rounded the numbers. Evil's site is correct, and I believe they measured with a ZEB.

    How does it work 166 in the back and 160 in the front?

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  4 года назад +5

      We actually did test it with both, and it just feels a bit more nimble with the 160mm fork. Front end is 1cm lower, of course, so you get a hair steeper head angle. I'd just cater it to what trails you ride most frequently, the difference isn't huge.

    I saw in a reply rich is 6ft, but not what size frame he’s on. I’m just over 6’2” and currently ride an XL 2017 insurgent, but ordered a L in this frame given numbers have it still bigger than my current XL. Haven’t built it up yet, so just looking for some confirmation that being 6’2” the L is still well within my range

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  4 года назад

      Sorry, he is on a Large. Yep, if you liked your XL you will feel good on the large Wreckoning. It is worth noting that because the effective top tube on the Large Wreckoning vs the XL insurgent is 3cm shorter, the cockpit will feel shorter when you're sitting down pedaling. You can of course change that by moving your saddle backward in the rails and running a longer stem, but you will likely notice that. Does that help?

    Oh man, totally tempted to get in my order on one of these for some next season shredding. Just stuck on what size. Medium is similar length to my current Large bikes which have 460-470 reach and 1215-1228mm wheelbase. I am 5'10" even and am a bit worried that the Large at 1250+ might be a bit too long.

    • @FanatikBikeCo

      Hey Jason, I am 5'10" as well and I prefer the medium to the large. For a little more context, my arm-span is also 5'10", and I have a 30" inseam.

      @superawesomefuntimego 3 года назад +1

      @@FanatikBikeCo Thanks Dan! I appreciate the feedback. My arm-span is about the same. At your height, is it possible to fit a longer dropper on the Medium? I'm hoping at least 180 will fit.

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  3 года назад +1

      @@superawesomefuntimego I have a 180mm Bike Yoke Revive post on my Following, although it couldn't go any lower than I have it. The seattube on the medium Wreckoning is 7mm shorter (432mm vs 425mm), so I'd say it's a maybe. I technically am like 5'9.75", so if your inseam is any longer than mine I bet you'd be good to go, hard to say without trying, and I don't have any Wreckoning frames to do so :/

    That seat tube angle is definitely not 77 degrees it’s way SLACKER! I think reviews should measure all the angles to prove whether the information given is accurate or not. My bike has a 77 degree seat tube angle and it’s a lot steeper than that!

    • @FanatikBikeCo
      @FanatikBikeCo  4 года назад +2

      Correct, although the error is in getting lazy with terminology. Rich is referring to the effective seat tube angle, which is measured from the imaginary line going from the saddle at the height of the handlebars down to the bottom bracket. As you point out, the actual seat tube angle is quite a bit slacker.

      Yep, they recommend max 2.5. That would have been cool to upsize the chainstay with larger frames, but it adds a massive expense. The molds for the carbon components are hugely expensive. Just changes the ride feel a bit, makes for a snappier feel.

Wish some of these reviewers who praise things like "increased stiffness, sturdier, more travel, etc" would actually show us how/why they've come to that conclusion other than numbers on paper. Show someone hammering a trail and hit decent drops and launch some gap jumps.
