  • Civil Air Patrol C-182 IFR clearance and departure from Aurora State Airport (KUAO), Aurora Oregon. KUAO is an uncontrolled airport. This inflight video and live cockpit audio captures use receiving our IFR clearance from Portland Clearance Delivery. We then have to wait approximately 15 minutes to receive take-off clearance and a clearance void time. Since KUAO is an uncontrolled airport we must talk with Portland clearance delivery on one channel, then switch to Portland approach on another channel for our departure clearance and clearance void time. Once our small window to depart is opened we then switch to the airport CTAF frequency for our take-off. Portland Approach is then contacted again once airborne and we are clear of the immediate airport area.
You may have heard Clearance delivery ask if we can accept the Gnnet 1 Departure. This published instrument departure procedure requires the use of GPS. Although this aircraft is equipped with a IFR GPS (Apollo GX55) the crew did not feel comfortable using the GPS for this procedure (Good CRM). Don't be afraid to deny a request that you can not safely complete. ATC is there to help and the controller quickly gave use a departure we could accept.
We are departing on an IFR flight plan (Gnnet, EUG, RSB, Samie, KMFR) to Rouge Valley International- Medford Airport (KMFR) to attend the 2013 Oregon Wing Mountain Flying Clinic in Medford, Oregon. We are flying in a Civil Air Patrol C-182R. Our filed altitude is 7,000 ft and we fly the ILS 14 approach into Medford Airport.
I am acting as the Pilot in Command (PIC) and I am privileged to be flying with our Pacific Region Commander Col. Bishop and the Pacific Region Deputy Director of Safety Capt. Zaganianz.
I always fly with an Ipad 2 running WingX Pro 7 connected via bluetooth to my Dual XGPS150. The other crew members are using Foreflight.
