  • Juanelo is the Barrio, where Adonis Panter Calderón grew up and in this episode, he explains some historical concepts about this special location on the outskirts of Havana.
Things have changed a lot since then but I want to provide some context about what I met during the first years of filming his impressive career and the project La Rumba no va a Morir together with his cousin Natividad Calderón.
Some of the kids and adults at the party are family, some are friends from the Barrio. The Rumba took place in front of Natys place, legendary in the Barrio.

Hello Chris thank you for these video I can attest that I would not be playing percussion if not for the first videos of this series you posted years ago , I know rumba culture has been in North America for a long time but it’s widely unknown in my country ( New Zealand ) I can not thank you enough for documenting these events and interviewing the players .
It’s very rare to see any culture at its source and as it’s happening , the raw ,
For any body around the world with the gift of music or the desire or inclination to play they need only watch & listen as that’s how this music is transferred
