Things To Do in Zakynthos, Greece - Our Top Picks

- In this week's episode we head to the beautiful and (relatively) undiscovered island of Zakynthos in Greece. We visit one of the best beaches in Greece, take a boat around the island, go to some great local restaurants and just explore the place from top to bottom.
Zakynthos is in the Ionian Island chain of western Greece and is known for having some of the best beaches in Greece, delicious food, incredible rock formations and great guest houses and apartments.
We rent an apartment in Zakynthos for just $21 / night and explore the island by rental car for 10 days. We visit the best beach in Greece, Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck cove. This is the picture in the thumbnail and it's a beautiful white sand beach with turquoise waters and stunning views!
We also eat delicious Greek food, meet friendly Greek people and learn a bit about the culture by making local friends.

South West of the island there is beach called Daphne beach it is amazing. Amazing restaurant, free sunbeds, amazing reefs for snorkelling with so many fish, really clear blue water and a chance of seeing turtles! You must go here if you go to Zante!

Great video guys, we have visited this island and it is beautiful. Smugglers cove is great but the white sand is an optical illusion it is actually pebbles on the beach and not white sand as we found out when we swam in from a boat moored off shore.

I've been going to Zakynthos for 30 years & just returned from an 8 day break there.
Gerakas is a wonderful beach but now marred by the high cost of the sunbeds at 15 euros - must be THE most expensive in Greece.
Banana beach is also very nice - again the sunbeds are v.expensive compared to other resorts on the island.
Skinari in the N.E of the island is a great place to visit as is Agios Nikolaos with La Storia Taverna being one of the best restaurants on the island serving delicious fresh seafood.
If you have never visited the island you are missing out on a jewel of a place!

Gerakas Beach is literally my childhood. I’m English and the only place I’ve been abroad is Zakynthos. We always stay with friends and I was watching this video just waiting for it to come up. Recognised it straight away.

What a gorgeous island! The colour of the water was absolutely stunning. Having a car looked like a brilliant way to explore the Island and the boat trip looked really fun also. Great video and informative. How anyone can give a thumbs down I have no idea. We did Zante some years ago and had an equally brilliant holiday. We also hired a speedboat for the day and got into loads of small caves which bigger boats couldn't access. We did Shipwreck Bay 2 weeks after my brother in law and he hid a business card on the wreck and gave us clues and we found it. We did the same thing with some other friends who were arriving the week later - great fun. Sad to see the footage of yesterday of the cliff fall at Shipwreck Bay but luckily no fatalities! Thanks for the video guys!

Nice video clip. My family comes from Zakynthos. It truly is a beautiful island. I've been fortunate enough to have lived there for a brief period of time. The only part I didn't like was when you got out on the edge of the cliff to take pictures above Navagio Beach. Very dangerous and people have fallen off/died doing the same thing.

Yes a lovely island. We were there in May 22 for one week and loved it; stayed at the Louros Beach Hotel, Kalamaki. Within a couple of weeks of returning to the UK we booked for this year and can not wait to return.

I had the good fortune to live and work in zakynthos for a few years. It is my second home and a knew all the places you visited before you said where it was. Nice video and it did the island justice. Just one thing and that is that zakynthos is in the ionian sea . I know it's all part of the Mediterranean but when talking greece it is Ionian and Aegean for me plus they sound better lol.👍

Hi Paul, got back from tsilivi on Monday, You're in for a real treat. Weather was 23 - 25 with a slight breeze every day. We didn't do any trips but they are available everywhere. Food is as fresh as can be , pretty cheap and scrumptious so eat out if you can . Beer about 3 to 3.50 euros per pint or 500ml bottle. Mythos the local beer is nice and refreshing. The people are very friendly and speak excellent English. Tourists were 50/50 brits and polish but all well behaved. If you are going to laganas beware of young pickpockets who apparently are fairly rife but no such problems in tsilivi. If you need anymore info give me a reply and I'll see if I can help, Cheers, cuzzpostie, Whitchurch, Shropshire.
Thanks for that Neil, I'm going to Tsivili on the east coast which is a moderately sized resort from what I gather. A lot of it we'll take it as it comes but I'm still researching on stuff to do and see on the island. It'll be great fun I'm sure....!
Hi paul, are you all inclusive or b and b or self catering ??? If eating out i thoroughly recommend the following restaurants, m eating , ella , samnes, also a fish restaurant which was next to our hotel ( sentido alexandra beach ) called avguoustis. It's about 40 feet from the beach and the view is stunning and the food wonderful. Sardines for starters a must do. Most of the wines are local and quite light but go really well with the food both red and white. We had meals out where 2 starters, 2 mains and a bottle of wine came to just under 50 euro but the service and staff are really great. We haven't been before but we will be back very soon. During the day it looks a bit tatty and under done but there's a lot of building work and development starting. Loads of bar's at night showing sport if that's your thing. Again if I can help get back in touch. I'm very sure you'll love it, but keep it quiet so it doesn't get overrun and spoil it for us new converts. Best wishes, Cuzz.
Errrr...we're half board but we'll go out for a meal at least one night whilst we're there + there might be a few places we'll grab some lunch at. I gather there's plenty of nightlife, bars, karaoke and all the rest of it. I've had a quick look on Google Street View too to get a flavour of what to expect.
Nicely produced video, good music choices too. Would you guys recommend staying in Zante town if I'm planning to do small boat trips/excursions frequently during a family vacation, or is the port at Zante town mainly for the large ferries? Thanks a bunch.

Wonderful video! One thing: do not climb the rocks next to the shipwreck beach. It is Extremely dangerous due to frequent earthquakes. Many tourists died falling off the rocks. Use the iron railings.
