This was helpful, thank you sir. Your goal of making this stuff approachable is being attained. I especially appreciate you showing your failures, and the fact that sometimes it’s just a process.
That valve adjuster tool definitely helps a lot! It was my first time doing a valve adjustment so I went through it twice. Mine was pretty out of spec and I found it made the engine both quieter and smoother Definitely recommend doing this!
Honestly, I want to get a junkyard valve cover t pain up and do it all over again. Maybe this fall. I may get one of those little tools to use as I also want to redo my V6 Odyssey and make sure that new head hasn't settled in any.
You make great videos and helps tremendously. I have a manual transmission 04 CRV 201K miles and she needs love from time to time. I will look into the valve adjustment for sure. This is first video I’ve seen that makes me feel like I can do it. Great tips especially with the cam lobe orientation while adjusting, replacing the gasket and the tightening sequence. You truly are meticulous. Thanks.
I just purchased a 2007 Element SC with 142,000 miles and currently am doing some baseline maintenance on it and will be checking the valves soon. I already purchased the same fel-pro gasket kit and might even rice it up LOL like you did. Love your videos
Excellent video!! Next project. My 2010 is much noisier than my 2008 (owned since new)ever was so I am suspect that something out of spec. I love the “Attention to details” comment. So correct
This was great. Good tip to use the PS pump to turn the engine in lieu of using the 19 mm crank bolt. I used to check the clearances on my old Toyota 22RE engine and the specs were to be checked while HOT! Glad that Honda has cold spec. I have the Honda valve adjustment tool on my Amazon wishlist. Thanks for reporting on the exhaust measurements as being slightly tight. Was very curios on that after 285k miles. Regarding the wear on the cam lobe, make like VGG and "pretend you didn't see that". LOL
Is there any way or tool you can use other than sound to know if the valves are too tight or too loose without taking off the valve cover? I thought I read somewhere there is a tool that measures the the space of the gaps of the valves.
Hi. When I adjust the valves, do I do all of them one at a time or do I start with 1 cylinder, 3,2,4 as in earlier engines ? Do I have to lift the cylinders ?
I don't. Removing the plugs will make it easier to rotate the motor since you're not fighting compression but this little 4 cylinder motor is pretty easy to turn with the plugs in.
I didn't realize the smaller lobe on the intake side had to be UP position as well when adjusting the valve. I adjusted the smaller cam lobe when the bigger one was in the UP position. Does that matter?
@@clintsearcy3252 that’s what I tough . I noticed many 2003 element engines lobe on the exhaust will wear down. I done many elements and CRV valve adjustment and around 5 times I saw this wear on the 2003
Next year....if my new car hasn't been delivered valve adjustment will be done. Still only 70 000 miles. No leaks and great mpg so I'm in no hurry to open it up
Yo! Don't remove spark plug boots like that. The valve cover is extremely thin and the inside ring isn't soft material its rigid. You can easily crack it doing that. Instead, using a flat head screwdriver, or small punch, tap those suckers out by placing it on the rigid rim. Remove and reseat the new guys carefully.
You're mistaken. It's just an oil seal like any other. The valve cover is 1/8 thick cast aluminum. There are no cracks in the cover and it has 310,000 miles.
I have a 2010 with 83k miles. It’s been running rich but no codes or check engine light. Strong fuel smell. Soot in the tail pipe. Had my car stolen months back and replaced with after market. Any advice on what I should do first before bringing it to a shop?

I used to edit out the mistakes but then I figured out that showing the imperfection of the process made things much more relatable.

OUTSTANDING video of a car repair. Well narrated, fantastic in focus video. You are good at this and thanks!!

Keep that salt off her!
Good stuff here, you've given me the confidence to do it myself! Seriously! KISS fan here too since 77!! 🤟
You can do it!
You forgot the Hondabond Ht on the near corners
Thanks!

Yea, I may keep an eye out for some better looking cams in the junk yard.
Can you make a video of how to diagnose a bad cv boot vs a bad axle? video on how to replace axle?

I guess you could do a bleed down test might point to a valve that's too tight but a feeler gauge in the rockers is the real way to be sure.
Nice job bro...i learned alot ..now im going to do my valve adjustment on my 04 honda accord ex 2.4l...peace out
Right on. It's should be the same.
Does car need to be in N or P whilst rotating the engine? Thanks
Hi. When I adjust the valves, do I do all of them one at a time or do I start with 1 cylinder, 3,2,4 as in earlier engines ? Do I have to lift the cylinders ?
The pistons will raise as you turn the crank.
A must on all Es
No gasket dab on the corners ? , hope it sealed.
So far so good.
What will cause the lobes on the exhaust cam to be scored like that?
Probably oil starved at some point. Or grit in the oil.
Loving the vid! Do we have to remove the spark plugs also?
I don't. Removing the plugs will make it easier to rotate the motor since you're not fighting compression but this little 4 cylinder motor is pretty easy to turn with the plugs in.

For accurate results you need to be sure the point of the lobe is pointing away from the valve.
So do you have to crank the lobe facing up for each 16 valves as you go along? What order do you do them in?
Great video , what year is it?
This is a 2003.

That's a tricky one. I would start with checking the rubber hose on the intake and the cat.
great video like always🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate it!!
Just hit 155 k on my element, guess it’s time to check valve clearance.
It would be worth a check
