I have my green belt Shito-Ryu karate and this is almost identical to heian nidan. Heian shodan is currently the kata I am learning and will be eventually tested on to attain my blue belt.

Please note Gichin Funakoshi founder of Shotokan changed the sequnce of their Katas. They switched Heian Shodan to Heian Nidan and visa versa. Shito Ryu did not. They found that original Shodan was harder than Nidan for the reasoning of the switch in names. Having said that - I study Shito Ryu we teach Pinan Nidan before Pinan Shodan to juniors for that reason.

Mientras menos tiempo, mas floja es la disciplina y la escuela y son basicamente un Mc Dojo (Supermercado de cintas y titulos). Como anecdota de mi entrenamiento en Gosoku Ryu cuando era adolescente, tomaba alrededor de 10 años el llegar a negra, a un ritmo de alrededor de 1 cinta por año. Mi ultima cinta fue cinta verde 4th Kyu (a un paso de la marron) en 8 años desde mis 12. Sufri una lesion no relacionada y detuve mi entrenamiento formal para seguir con mi carrera. Aun a mi edad actual de 59, no me ha podido vencer un cinta negra de TKD u otros estilos que usan el fast track que mencione anteriormente, porque aunque limitado por mi rango en Gosoku, el entrenamiento, constancia y disciplina del arte te hace muy fuerte aun en lo basico. No hay prisa en esto, busca calidad, un buen Sensei.
el kyokushinkai karate es buenisimo, el shotokan es de posiciones mas bajas y largas, lo cual lo hace mas rigido, pero tiene buena fuerza, el shito riu no se mucho, pero se ve bien tambien. el karate en general es muy bueno. te recomiendo el primero que te mencione

The name Shito-Ryu was created by combining the names of the two masters responsible for the beginnings of the style. Shito-Ryu was developed and passed on from Master Ankoh Itosu and Master Kanryo Higaonna. In Kanji, the first two letters in their names spell “Shi” and “To” which are the parts of the name Shito-Ryu, Master Kenwa Mabuni combined them to create the name Shito-Ryu.

Yes, I can see a few differences, but I think both styles are still pretty similar. Personally, I have studied American Kenpo, Wing Chung Chuen, and have begun Goju Ryu and Jiu Jitsu, arts that are quite différent from one another. I am not saying that Shito Ryu and Shotokan are not good styles. Not at all ! But, lets say my own martial arts life journey took me on different paths. And that's great ! That is how students and masters of different martial arts may learn a lot from each other ! OSS !
