    When I hung KD or Green wood siding, I only put one nail per board/stud at the bottom with the nail just clearing the top edge of the lapped board. I had no splitting...lol, well not as much.😄

  • @wilcogrundens9086
    @wilcogrundens9086 9 месяцев назад +1

    Trick is to put the siding nail right above the piece below it so that only one nail is in the board, then it can shrink without splitting.

    That burned area on the log is called "alligator skin". And if you will put roofing tar on the part of the post that will be below ground it will last longer.

    Good afternoon guys , back in the days they built with green lumber all the time I let mine dry but that create other problem some of your wood will bow curve twist warp so sometime it is better to built with green lumber you hand up with less reject but you got to deal with the shrinking so witch one is best it is up to your preference have a great day

    • @wf2v

      Nails will hold very tight in green wood. One thing with screws though, you can come back later and reclaim them. Just be sure to replace the holding mechanism with nails, dowels, or other fasteners. I have built green outdoor furniture where I initially screw the joints together. Then later return and reclaim the screw and replace with a dowel. Makes super strong joints, very inexpensive.
