Summit just was the greatest tourney series tbh. From Armada's dominace as the undisputed best to Hbox's reign as final boss to the slippi and post slippi era. The impact that Summit has had on the scene is incredible, and whatever the future holds, I hope it's something on par, if not better, than Summit. Best of luck to everyone, and cheers on the Melee community
I forgot how much Armada just straight up owned Summit for the first few years. 4 wins in a row, and two more grand finals appearances after that. We'll probably never see a player that dominant again.
The greatest tournament series ever to me. I stopped watching smash a couple years ago but this got me so hyped especially as a mango fan for like 10 years
I find it super interesting in the first Summit, 14 years after the game's release, people probably thought players had peaked and couldn't play any better. And yet, watching this video you can tell how these players improve throughout the years and keep pushing the game even further to this day. Melee is wonderful.
i know that for a lot of people, melee is still the game of the five gods--but to me, the most legendary summit performance is cody schwab at summit 13; life throws a lot of curve balls at us, and something i really admire is the ability to keep on moving in the face of adversity. and by GOD did he do it. from his beginnings as a salty new-age fox (who quit law school for this!), to a humble competitor at peace with his results--the guy is an inspiration. if you were to ask ANY top 100 melee player in 2018 to name the next player to win back-to-back summits, nobody would have guessed iBDW. and that is why i love melee. BTS was an incredible part of the community, they brought a lot of things. all things must come to an end, but that does not mean that smash is dead. we'll keep on moving. we always do
Armada vs HBox being Grand Finals of Summit 2, 3, 4, and 5 is the textbook example of deja vu. Also Summit 8 was easily the best Grand Finals of all the summits, with Axe and Wizzrobe. Everytime I see Axe's crying those tears of joy my heart warms for him.
This video really put it into propective how amaizng armada was as a player. Such an amazing player and while I miss him, his new speedrunning content is pretty darn cool as well. I only wish the best for him and the rest of the community. God Bless Melee.
Definitely not hating on armada, I think he’s the goat but I think the whole thing about winners and losers is weird. When people win a tourney from winners people always say “he didn’t drop a set all tourney” like, yeah, obviously. And then when they win from losers it’s an “epic losers run.” They’re both impressive because the person won the tournament. I don’t know, not hating, it just seems weird to me.
@@randomvids4099 no i get that its impressive but im just saying, winning a tournament is impressive either way. sure winning from winners and losers are maybe different kinds of impressive but its just weird to me when people are like "X won the tournament without dropping a set" like yeah, thats called winning from the winners side. Or conversely, when people are like "X won from LOSERS." i dunno, like there are only two options. maybe im wrong
