I heard you mention lamson reels... I'm between the lamson liquid and this reel. Have you ever fished the lamson? I'm going to use it for king salmon in ny
Howdy Sean. We actually fish with both reels and like them both a lot. The Lamson Liquid is probably a little lighter in weight than the Piscifun reel but quality wise they are both great choices. The drag on either reel is great. We put the Piscifun through the ringer when fishing for Bull Reds which, may be similar to what it's like to fish for King Salmon. The Lamson reels have done extremely well on big Stripped Bass here in north Texas. I would recommend getting your hands on each reel and see what your personal preference might be upon review. I hope this helps you out. FishyB
Hi guys! Thanks for the review. I purchased one of these for my 8wt rod and for the most part I like it. Looks sharp, very smooth reel, and nice big arbor. However, the drag is horrible. Just a slight turn will change the tension immensely. I lost my first fish on it, a nice sized sand bass, after turning the drag just a bit and it loosened it too much. Fish darted off and with so much slack the fly came off. They seem to be aware of this issue as they responded to my feedback on Amazon. Seems to be a common theme in feedback.
Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your drag. I had seen the same in the Amazon feedback as well, fortunately ours has worked perfectly! Perhaps it's a manufacturing batch run issue, no idea though. Piscifun has great customer service and I bet that would make this right by you. Tight lines, FishyB.
Hi Luda_yanez, Thank you for the comments. In fact we do have a video of the Piscifun Sword reel in action, check out our trip to Cocodrie, LA for redfish and black drum. ruclips.net/video/7DAMm9mH0pA/видео.html
Dang, seems like it might be worth the $50! I have the cast metal Echo Base Reel currently. Do you feel like after that trip and more like it this reel will continue to hold up?
I own their Venom 2000 size spinning real. I've had it for a couple years and really like it. I'm getting a new fly rod and need a decent reel w/o breaking the bank. Bank was broken on the important part, the rod.
@@FlyFishTX I ended up getting a Redington Rise 3/4. Really nice. It was 25% off plus I had a few Amazon rewards. I ended up paying $130 for it. I bought the Vice rod and figured the price points were close, same brand, should be a good match. So far I love it. Already have a few Northern Michigan brookies and a nice brown on it.
Hi Rush. Honestly, I think you would be hard pressed to find the quality of reel for this price. We did a nice job of putting this reel through the paces and we are impressed!
Got one for my bday last summer. I'm one of the "weirdos"...I like my reel handle on the right side of my fly rod (I do the same with spinning rods). Any chance of a video of how to swap the handedness of the reel? Thanks.
Hi Zachary! We actually have one setup for left hand retrieve and one for right hand retrieve, Nick is a lefty. Here is a video from RUclips that shows you how to change the retrieve, in fact, it's probably the same one I watched when I changed Nick's, LOL. Hope this helps you out! Tight lines, FishyB. ruclips.net/video/Yb7bpzeupyY/видео.html
Aluminum never rusts, but it will corrode. If you've ever lived near salt water, you would be familiar with the chalky white corrosion and the pitting.
Our apologies BlacktipF for just now responding! I don't see why you couldn't use the Piscifun Sword reel for salmon. We put this reel through it's paces on red fish and black drum, and had absolutely no issues.
Hi Brad. Yeah, it was the first "review" video (lessons learned), we did fish solely with the reel in a following video while in Louisiana and make reference to it.
dont buy one. i order mine a week ago, and with there own tracking. it is still sitting in there warehouse back east.. maybe i might get it in the next year or so

Awesome! Another option I was just informed of was the okuma slv reel. Thanks for the reply!
You are welcome. Okuma makes a really nice product too; however, we haven't ever field tested any. Best of luck to you Sean. FishyB
Thank you guys i was looking at buying one
I have 3 of these reels, the 3-4, 5-6, and the 7-8. All are set up as even number configuration, you cannot beat these reels for the price.
Thanks fo review, guys! Really usefull :)
Awesome! Glad you liked it . We will have more in the near future! :)

Good review! Any chance of a video of how it's performance?

Fly Fish TX thanks for taking time to respond, and I am making sure I watch that video!
Very cool! We hope you enjoy it. We put the Piscifun Sword reel through a pretty good field test. :)

Hi Zeke8762. We feel pretty confident that this reel will hold up, it's been on saltwater and countless trips for striped bass.

We have had good luck with the fly reels and can't beat the prices. FishyB

Hey guys! Thinking about buying this reel! For the $ can I buy a better reel?

At the 5 minute mark??? FYI, aluminum never rusts, anodized or not. Other than that, I’ve ordered one to test out.
Great Brett. I think you will be really happy with the reel! Tight lines. FishyB

if fishing doesn't make you happy you are doing it wrong!
hello
Hi Hong! Thank you for watching our video! :)
Can you catch salmon on this reel

This is an unboxing, not a review! You can't review a product without putting it to use for a period of time.
Just a thought - but if you're gonna do a "review", why not actually fish with it?
Hi Brad. Yeah, it was the first "review" video (lessons learned), we did fish solely with the reel in a following video while in Louisiana and make reference to it.

And that's a reason not to buy one? Wtf you say that when something is pish not because there's a oversight in the warehouse 🤬
