I remember one gig at Blackpool...i think when the boy was so smashed he was turning records over again and again to try and gauge some semblance of what he was meant to do. The resulting undanceable cacophony led to him being physically threatened by the club owner. What a silly klutz. Drugs and youth,eh!
Man what a tune. I asked him how he got that effect on the vocals & he told me he applied a "gate" to it that wasn't meant mentor vocals... every other dance tune that came out afterwards had something similar but having those kind of original ideas made Sasha so much better than anyone else
I wonder if it was just a happy accident and he liked it, so he kept it? You can hear a gate being applied to the synth's chord progression throughout this tune and it was pretty easy to 'mess up' and apply the gate to the vocals/sampler instead of the synth back when everything was coming through a desk. I mean, gating synths to produce rhythms had been around a long time before Sasha. Listen to early New Order, lots of their tunes have synth rhythms created through gating. But you might be right about the effect he produced on the vocals here, it's certainly a very early example if it's not the first.
Wish my parent's were this cool, i told my parents about the music i like yet they say it doesn't exist/ they haven't heard of it, yet it's from their time.
This is the very first track I heard of Sasha, full blown raver after hearing this. Saw him dj many times the last was the Northern exposure tour in Sydney and Melbourne, I really do miss the 90’s rave era!
Sasha at is finest, quality 👌 The build up fuck sake!! That first rush u had on first hearing it in some shit hole basement wharhouse, fuck no's where, comes flooding back, why was it over 30 fukin years ago ,,,man 😩😢
DJ David Padilla @ Warsaw Ballroom. RIP This was a 2 copy workout. He would kill the all the lights, blast the fog machines till you couldnt see shit... and play this from the start. The crowd would go berzerk!!! And yes, he would play the piano version into this... what a memory!
This ones going out to my brother Robine and me mates Whitey & Edge we all Raved in the late 80s early 90s RIp Edge ❤ 🎶

Respect.
Sashas best work by far. I don't for 1 second he did this all by himself, not back then. Man was a top wreck head when out DJing lol. Legend

This was 1 of the most innovative progressive house tracks of 90s and early 2000's. Brilliant.

I know that the 'gated snare' (drum) was a big sound in the '80's..... I think Prince did it, Phil Collins/Genesis did it....
you know :)
It was legendary 80s producer Hugh Padgham who invented the gated drum sound. But yeah - this track bangs and Sasha is a god amongst men.
