Him using a broad general statement like "We're going to have a lot more progress" followed by him making a pandering, low hanging fruit comment about using it to end poverty and framing the argument so that anybody who is against AI would be against ending poverty, all in the context of him trying to convince us that it's "worth the risk" feels really, really weird and unsettling
Sam: Just give me 7 trillion and promise we’ll end poverty! Jjust gotta invest it all in my company first… but it’ll trickle down I swear. .
Honestly I wish us all luck
Yes. The way I see it, this guy is a charlatan and the AI hype, for the most part, is a con. I've seen how GPT works and the AI created images, but yet to see how this technology will be truly useful to humanity. Also, the notion of "AGI" is a complete fantasy. It doesn't exist and GPT doesn't resemble it in the slightest.
What do you want him to do? Go into the nitty gritty every single damn interview he does? This isn't top secret information. There are loads of sources out there that talk about what A.I might be capable of. Ray Kurzweil, for example, who has written books on the topic and has discussed it at length for decades.
At this point you people hate everything that comes out of this guy's mouth to call him a shill or fraud.
Every product that OpenAI has pushed out has disrupted fields time and time again and when the suits within the company tried to kick him out all the researchers stood up for him. He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone.
There are massive corporations like MSFT, governments, fund capitalists and researchers studying Altman's and OpenAI's every move and still working with him but go on tell us how he's a fraud and compare him to Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes.
We've had the opportunity to end poverty for at least 50 years now. It's not gonna happen with AI either. It has to do with people and power, not technology.
agreed!
So true, every single revolutionary thing invented promises to solve all sorts of issues for mankind, meanwhile things get more expensive, companies get less efficient, inequality is higher, access to affordable housing inexistent... Will end up porverty because there won't be more people around...
Poverty is shit n not true if an African man come with trees to usa n said i make up a house if all people came to usa n make houses there poverty will end for sure it doenst happens with power@@bootsmade4walking
Yes. Countries would rather send money abroad to serve their own interests before they'd ever begin using it to help their own people. Anyone who thinks AI is gonna be different is living in a dream world.
What are you talking about? Look how massively global poverty levels have dropped over the past 50 years. There’s never been a better time to be poor.
Worlds most successful faker
😮 Wow the last statement “I don’t think stopping it would work” sounds like a scene in a Skynetty movie where they show a series of news and internet videos before showing the post apocalyptic world where AI destroyed humanity.

I’m opportuned to have guidance and supervision from some of Wall Street’s eyes and ears. This is an exciting time of year after a tough one all round. I made a significant profit with my MSFT holdings recently and have drawn almost 100k for the holidays.
That's awesome! How did that happen?
Well, a renowned figure in Manhattan I had contacted by Monica Mary Strigle recently added MSFT to the portfolio, and things took off few days back. Plus, there's some interesting speculation.
Speculation? Do tell!
You won't believe it. Sam Altman, the guy ousted from OpenAI, got a warm welcome from MSFT. I saw it as a potential game-changer, and it seems I was right.
Sam Altman joining MSFT does sound like a big move. How did it impact your MSFT holdings?

I think they should restrict access to it to 'responsible' people like academics (pretty much like dangerous chemicals that if not used responsibly, can be disastrous)
He's talking like a politician why in world would tech end poverty it can reduce only by human thought and action
The definition of tech is human thought and action. And tech is exactly what is needed to end poverty. The last great reduction in rates of mass starvation came from Normal Borlag. Only technology and science can provide sustainable end to poverty. All other changes (economic and political) are often transitory.

AI could run a wealth distribution center for the unemployable. Build a college dorm. Attach a cafeteria and a health and counseling center. Provide only AI entity interaction. Attach a junkyard and metal and wood recycling shops. Have the AI execute a business plan to make products for sale from recycled material.
Ummmm we know how to end poverty. Wealthy people like him should stop hoarding their wealth, and the working class should be in control of the means of production. This is going to do the opposite of that.
The thing about capitalism is that in the face of technological progress it destroys itself.
If we can ever make an AGI, it will be able to do all economically valuable work humans can (pretty much by definition) and it will be better at it and cheaper than hiring a human.
In such a world there are two options:
1. Universal provision of goods to the unemployed (most people), thereby removing poverty.
2. Revolt by the masses until either option 1 comes around or everyone is dead.
Great point.
Working class are already in control 😊

I don’t see how AI can solve poverty things still need produced like food and medicine and services or people to live infrastructure AI does not solve any of those. No maybe autonomous robots but that’s a whole different story AI is not going to bring poor people out of poverty unfortunately I just don’t see how that will happen.
if people dont have jobs and spend their time indoors then people would be complaining at each other and divorce rate will reach over 90%. i understand that sam altman's goal is to improve lives but the issue is that mental health is a disaster among alot of people.
and the global average age of population is increasing. seniors live in fear of being forced to death due to having to create space for younger generation but younger generation cant continue creation if seniors continue living. there can only be one.
How are you going to end poverty if nobody has a job? This talk of universal basic income is nonsense… A lovely idea but no government will EVER actually do this.
AI is gonna be a nothing burger

@@gregw322 ‘Humanity is just a series of accidental mutations’ seems problematic. What’s an example of non-accidental mutation?
@@jennetal.984 there aren’t any. You’re making my entire point for me. Evolution only selects for reproductive fitness when if it were up to us we’d select for kindness, empathy, happiness, pleasure etcetera. Humanity isn’t some pinnacle of creation we’re just upright apes with all of their flaws. We can be much more when WE, not evolution, guides the process.
@@gregw322 I’m a layman but when you say things like “we are apes” I’m pretty suspicious that your interest in this discussion is ideological and not scientific. Humans are unique and are not apes. Humans and apes only share a common ancestor and if you think they are the same then you could reason that we are all just fruit flies or amoebas and so on because of our common ancestry with whichever lifeform you choose. You could check out “Life's Solution: Inevitable Humans in a Lonely Universe” by Conway Morris for more on the matter. Goodbye.

How in the world would AI end poverty? 🤣🤣 money, Sam. We need money. Not AI. Lawd come get your people. They need help. ♂🤦
It *could end poverty(or at least the negative effects of it) very easily and quickly by automating everything that is a basic human need: food, water, shelter, and energy production. The only reason money would be needed is for recreation and non-necessities.
*I say “could” because it could be used in this way. Will it? I hope so, but there are so many ways this could go; some good, some bad.
use your brain, think harder, and try again. actually I’ll just tell you. When ai and robots can do literally every single human task better and more efficient than humans (which will probably happen within the next 20 years) you will have a labor force that doesn’t need insurance, doesn’t need pay, can work all day every day, and can work 2-10 times faster than humans. The US GDP is 24 trillion$ per year. Now, multiply that by 10 and cut your cost of labor to zero. Take the immense profits and distribute them equally among every person on the planet. It will not only end poverty, it will lead to a life of ridiculous abundance. If you want to keep doing your shitty job for the rest of your life, guess what, you still can. I’m sure the robots will be able to build you a work simulation for you to waste away your life. It’s people like you who make assumptions based on pre conceived notions that will make the process of implementing this technology a nightmare. People need to actually think about things. Critical thinking is a lost art apparently.
@@ahisrealyoffthechainokay Mr.Smooth Brain, how would the US GDP increase by 10x if AI is doing all the work? This is because the ability to produce more doesn’t necessarily mean there will be enough demand to consume those goods and services. With fewer job opportunities, there’s less money circulating, which impacts production. Corporations might lack incentives to create products or services if there’s no profit due to unemployment. Even if the government provides capital to everyone, limitations in consumption and wealth growth may still exist.
@@jasongonzalez6681 your take on this is very flawed. It assumes there will be money in a post agi future. This is not the case. No need for human labor = no cost + more production which = no scarcity. No cost = more demand because now people can afford things they could never afford before. We are getting pretty close to this so I suggest doing research. It is a complex topic that can’t be fully explained in a RUclips comment. I suggest watching David Shapiro.
@@ahisrealyoffthechain If there isn't any form of money in a post-AGI future, how would people afford things? Also, why would there be more production if there isn't something of value to get in return? Just because there's no cost doesn't mean there will be more production, there must be an incentive to produce or provide a service. Your take is also flawed as it assumes that AGI wouldn't have a cost. Supercomputers are energy-intensive and require energy and water to continuously operate. Who is bearing these costs since there isn't money in a post-AGI future? There will reach a point where those resources could be better allocated elsewhere than to a supercomputer. As with all things, there must be a balance because of market forces and resource allocation. It's flawed to believe there wouldn't be human capital when that is a valuable resource that could be cheaper than AGI (if everyone uses AGI, costs go up). It's like people didn't stop using bicycles because cars were invented even though they are better in practically every facet. I'd love to hear your perspective because I certainly don't believe I'm completely right and you're wrong. The truth is we both don't know how things will end up.
Weirdo
How can we stop it ? We can’t. Even if we could, we shouldn’t as now it’s a needed evil. If we don’t have it, an enemy will, and will use it to harm their rivals etc. point how ever is, this team alone is batshit scared or the technology, every single interview or talk is either a nonsense word salad going in circles, or straight up saying they are worried.
