The way things are going the seaman's church - Our Lady And Saint Nicholas - will end up as a mosque. The scale of white flight from L6, 7 and 8 is staggering. BTW, Billy, there's a fourth Liver Bird on the old Post and Echo building in Fleet Street, London.

Darren talking about his dad working in Guinness Exports in Norfolk Street. His dad was a great man loved by everyone Terry Smith. His grandad Charlie used to come into Guinness too..he was a funny little man.
I really enjoyed that Bill and Darren cheers 👍 we do have a great city. My mum told me my very distant relative was on the board of directors for the Mersey dock and harbour company. He must have been very wealthy! Anyway he left his wife and family for a Catholic tart 😂 and left his fortune to the catholic church. That wasn't done back then 😂. There used to be a gun club off Dale street that my uncle was a member of. They had a Chinese restaurant next door and the club was that old the steel plates at the back of the range were almost destroyed. You could peep through the holes and see the Chinese chefs cooking away dodging bullets 😂. At the back of the town hall by the red phone boxes if you look over the "moat" as it's known you can see the tunnels Darren mentions. They run across the back of the town hall and under Martin's bank building and another old bank on the other side of exchange flags. Allegedly when Barclays was still there the vaults were burgled through one of these tunnels. It's also been hit by Tommy C years ago. They had a key to the front door. The command centre under exchange flags is something else. Me and a mate did the tour around VJ day. It was the day they blew up the 3 sisters chimneys on the docks. It's incredible place that and if you can get a chance to go inside underground it's worth a look. Amazing how it was kept secret for sinking considering how big it is inside. The shop doesn't reflect how big it is. The roof is 20ft thick reinforced concrete with 7ft thick walls

I live on the Wirral, dont get over to Liverpool that often but i really want to explore for myself this area you and Darren showed us, especially that museum. Back in the early 1970's remember Ye Hole in Ye wall being an all male pub selling lovely food and beer and also Bill don't forget Ma Boyles Oyster Bar which is near St Nicks Church and dates back to 1870s selling a pint pot of prawns and delicious beef or ham off the bone butties. pea wack soup etc - 12.30 Friday linch time you couldn't get in - jam packed with people. - happy days

I get the train in from Maghull North to Moorfields regularly then walk to work in Vauxhall. Always said the same thing, brought up in the city and we don't appreciate the architecture and thriving city we live in. Also, to see history whilst walking around Liverpool look up! Unless you're outside Lewis's, where you'll just see a big set of balls.
Martins Bank Bill, where they kept all of Britain's gold reserve during the WW2 for safe keeping. (I know choosing Liverpool, right lol). The story was told in a film called The Bullion Boys, starring David Jason filmed in 1993. I used to work in Exchange flags from 81 to 90. And used to go down in the war rooms which were left to rack and ruin for many years. When I went down there were no lights and the place looked like the same as if the staff had just left it in 1945 then it was cleaned up for the anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. Also back in the day Sweeting Street was famous for the sex shop at the far end. Ask Darren he was never out of there. lol Good vid mate.

It was through the city being a rich shipping port that all those great buildings exist, a lot of those large buildings down by the liver buildings were banks 🏦 that ended up in the city because it was geographically perfectly located as a seaport back in the day.
Liverpool was the hub for slavery Yehh it’s well touchy but it made that much doe the gaffers running it spent it on grand buildings and had road names called after them , the most famous one was Penny Lane named after the slave trader called James Penny . Speke Hall was another, it’s a national trust stately home now but it belonged to a slave trader who gave a huge amount of land away , they were the Norris’s and the land they gave away became Norris Green which is well funny because you’ve got people from where they sold slaves living there
Unfortunately that was one of the trades of empire of that time in history and every major port city was financially involved London,Glasgow,Bristol and Manchester down the road was built on Cotton from slavery hence the nickname Cottonopolis!

One of them pointed at the tall blonde lad (good lad) and said do you who he is. He's an Ungi, I said yes I've heard of them..5of them left, 3of them started on me, the next day I bumped into 2 mickys in versace shirts, I told them what happened, they said.. Sorry about that I'm embarrassed,. Also they said.. You see that fella over there he's an Ungi(big lump minding a club) 'I can have a word with him but he might take offence.. I said no its my fault but tell blonde Ungi he's a good fella and don't let these idiots take your name in vain... Then I went to the oldest pub in Liverpool and the lady said, I'll get the milk. True story, my names tommy, ask them Billy Bhoy... Ya couldn't make it up, true Mickys unlike boy George Michael, he's a disgrace to the great city, the mug, bless Billy big up Yammy!!!
