    These ARE works of art. Not almost. Respect to the ARTisans who do this arduous work of creating these beautiful instruments.

      Hi Xochitl, I totally agree with you and very much respect the artisans. In fact, we are their main supporters and advocates. We say in the video, almost works of arts, because some people have argued with us they these are a handicraft.

    I ordered three black clay pots from amazon. Too expensive and small after use I saw cracks. Is there any way to buy directly from maker.

    • @juanrider817
      @juanrider817 3 года назад

      You probably did not get the legitimate item, this pieces will not crack unless you drop it. They are very strong and they retain heat very well. Even when they are hot you can grab it by the handles and you won’t get burned.

    That ladies and gentleman is ART. The sad thing is that they work hard to make this pieces and they get paid so little for them.

    Superb , regretfully a European trader will skim all the cream as usual . This village should have its own internet outlet and sell directly all around the world .
    These pots with a glass top will work beautifully in solar cookers .

    Is there a video or instructions on how to cure a new chamba pot?
    Also, I have one that was handed down to me and it smells like dirt so I don't think the previous owner cured it prior to use. I made rice pudding in it and the dessert aquired the dirt tasted . Is it possible to fix this used pot?

      +Maureen Benoit
      If you haven't found your answer yet, all it takes is filling the pot 3/4 full with water and placing it in a 400 degree oven for 30 minutes.

      When I have a Japanese clay pot, the curing was the uncooked rice water, using the first soaking of the rice water and boil the water in the clay pot or in oven, and let it sit for at least 2 to 3 hours... the starch from the rice water helps to fill up the voids in the porous clay pot..

    How to cook using a la chamba pot on an induction stove?

    • @ancientcookware9007
      @ancientcookware9007  4 года назад +1

      Hi, you have to use an induction disk. It is a think piece of metal that heats up and the clay pot then goes on top of that.

    The smoke isnt turning the pots black. The burning material put in the barrels is using up the oxygen. The absence of oxygen along with the heat makes the iron in the clay slip turn black.
    If they were to leave the lids off the barrels the pots would come out red.

    • @neos7786
      @neos7786 Месяц назад

      Is the iron naturally in the clay slip or is it put there

    • @Fulcrum205

    I love simmering my Mexican pinto, red or black beans in the big 4 and 6 quart black pots. After watching how they're made I don't feel bad about spending a lot. Tomorrow I will be buying the 4 quart glazed flat Cazuela pot for some new cooking adventures. I have been eyeing it for a couple years. I had to save up for 3 months to afford it. Gosh, all of their pots are beautiful.

    'Found only in this region.' you mean the same pottery that every neolithic farmer in Europe used 80,000 years ago? They had good logistics to import that magic clay!

    • @nejolo9563
      @nejolo9563 4 года назад +2

      Oh yeah, “Neolithic farmers in Europe 80,000 yrs ago”. Good burn if you have references. The furthest back archeological finds are 20,000 yrs ago in Asia. I don’t doubt their are discoveries to be made in Africa before this. You go ahead and site your discoveries.

    Is there a reason why these clay cooking pots need an induction disk while other clay pots for stove top use do not require it? Thank you

      The other "clay pots" you're referring to are made of Iron that has its surface vitrified to make them uniform, non-reactive and scratch resistant.
      The pots on the video are made of mostly clay that's also vitrified by the end when they add organic matter in the barrels.
